Rachel, that is exactly what I was hoping to hear. I'll report back after my cruise (which I embark TODAY! - Tokyo to Seward)

I had a 3-layer discectomy a few years ago and I'm wondering about the idea of signing up for massages in the Spa. Do the therapists know how to deal with something like that? Is it something they run into?
-
Indeed. Thank you.

I'm going the other way next month - Tokyo to Seward. Getting excited. Did San Francisco to Tokyo, via Adak in 1959...

Yes, that is exactly why I was wondering how she is looking. (I'm cruising from Tokyo to Seward in May.)

I thought the Shadow was supposed to be in drydock in January for a "much needed update." No reports?
-
Was Shadow in maintenance in January? How did she come out? Any reports?

How much money? I'm going on a 5-day/4-night cruise. Should I add $100 or $50?

I would love to have CCL back in San Diego, also.
I'm sailing on Imagination out of LB on the 26th and I can't figure out how to get up there and back. I mean I know how to get there but I tried to get a shuttle and it was several hundred dollars, round-trip.
I embark on Sunday so I wouldn't mind driving to Long Beach (from Mission Hills) but when we come back into port on Thursday morning at 7am the traffic in all directions from Long Beach is going to be a nightmare.
Any suggestions?

Does anyone know if this is possible? I have read that "VPNs" are blocked -- but are simple internet protocols like SSH / telnet also blocked?
I do not know anything specific about cruise ships, but I am an IT manager and I know how "blocking" works. They don't actually block individual services, they set up a firewall that blocks EVERTHING and then allows only certain services through.
You will not be able to ssh. Unlikely to be able to telnet. If your job is dependent on something besides http - stay home until you've made a scouting trip.

Bonnie,
I am an IT manager and I see this all the time. One common way for it to happen is for two people to have copies of the same document and the *second* person who saves the document wipes out the changes the first person made.

What do you mean "In the US we're not accustomed to sharing meals with strangers?" When I eat at Ruth's Chris or Mortons of Chicago, I always eat at the bar, and I am always joined by others. Around dinner time the entire bar is full of strangers eating at the bar.
We eat with strangers all the time in America.

As near as I can tell, most people bring 32-oz bottles of shampoo AND conditioner. Some people bring several bottles. I cannot figure it out. There must be a lot of hair washing going on at sea.

Actually, that only happens for the first few days until everyone gets their sea legs. After that, unless you look like you need help they leave you alone.
