  1. I thought Nassau was better than a sea day, like a sea day but with fewer people as the newbies get off to see not sure what.

We've cruised quite a bit but never stay on board when ship is at port. My parents are cruising for the first time in November and have no intention of getting off the ship while in port. What is there to do on the ship (other than spas, pool, etc) that makes it worth skipping a day to get off and explore? I'd like to make suggestions for them but don't know why they wouldn't want to get off.

I agree with not much to see in Nassau. Atlantis was the only major thing to see there IMHO.

  2. Just compared Celebrity Eclipse, PO Britannia and PO Azura for February 2018. Completely gobsmacked PO are charging £1950 more for a balcony cabin than Celebrity. The Celebrity price includes the Classic Drinks package but excluding the flight which costs only £850 for a couple. HAL prices are even better, now that balcony smoking has been banned definitely worth considering. Both are a cut above P&O in all the cruise ratings.

Why are PO Cruises prices so high ?

I'm sorry but what cruise line is P&O. I've searched the forum and wracked my brain but am still left clueless.

  3. Every room around me on a recent cruise (above, below, left, right) had people smoking or vaping on their balconies. No one follows the rules.

That's the kind of thing I just don't understand. Regardless of what the cruise is banning, if you know in advance why book that cruise? I was following a couple of threads about NCL Pride of America and how there's no casino on board. If you're an avid gambler and you know this in advance, book another cruise instead of bashing the cruise line for not having a casino when you know in advance. DH loves to gamble so this caught my eye and will be a discussion point before I consider booking this cruise. However I'm glad that I know in advance so I can make an educated decision.

Same with the smoking. If you're a smoker don't book a non smoking cruise or go to a non smoking venue and light up. I've never smoked but I've had tons of people around me through the years who've struggled to quit. I can only imagine that it's incredibly hard and I empathize. But rules are rules and those passengers should book another ship.

Sorry you were surrounded by a cloud of smoke on your non smoking cruise BirdTravels.

  4. I cruised on the Paradise. Smokers were put off at the next port. It was enforced on our cruise. A teen was caught and one parent had to leave with him since he was a minor.

Wow! I'm sure those parents were furious with that kid! He may never go on another family vacation after a stunt like that. Good for the cruise line for enforcing their rules!

  5. Cruise Critic (and other blog sites) drove me nuts in the beginning with all the acronyms, so I started a list as I figured these things out... here you go and feel free to add to it!

    · DH – Dear Hubby (alternately DW)

    · TA – Travel Agent

    · PVP – Personal Vacation Planner (CarnivalTA!)

    · CC – Cruise Critic; CC’er- fellow CCmember

    · FTTF – Faster To The Fun

    · OBC – On Board Credit

    · OCD – Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (notreally cruise-specific unless you’re referencing my packing list!)

    · OV- Ocean view cabin

    · M&G – Meet & Greet (also known asMeet & Mingle- M&M)

    · DoD – Drink Of the Day

    · DD – Dear Daughter

    · GS – Grandson

    · GS – Guest Services (pretty sure you canfigure out the difference from the post)

    · IMHO- In My Humble Opinion

    · YMMV- Your Mileage May Vary (obviouslymeans your experience may be different)

Thanks! [emoji2] I appreciate this list!!

  6. FTTF= Faster to the fun. It is a pass Carnival offers that allows you to get on the ship quicker(wedding parties, platinum members etc get on first). Once on the ship, your room will be ready. There is also a dedicated line at the pursers desk. Then if you tender to ports, you have a different line for the tender and get on quicker.

WCMC- Warm chocolate melting cake- delicious. I believe only in the main dinning room (MDR)???- not sure---if not...I am missing out!!!!

DH- this one I looked into because I did not know. I read it stands for Dear Husband. DW= dear Wife DD= dear daughter. But personally I like what you said :)

If I have anything wrong, please correct...I am still learning

Thanks! This is perfect! I've been meaning to search the forum to see if there was an abbreviation dictionary/decoder somewhere. I'll share the correct meaning of DH with hubby. I'm SURE he will like this better! [emoji38][emoji23]

We've cruised Carnival three times total. Our first two were Carnival (the very first is where DH and I met ❤️), then we cruised several other lines (RCCL, HAL & Peter Deilmann - a river cruise line company that has closed down) before coming back to Carnival 14 years later with two small kids in tow. Carnival was their first cruise and they LOVED it. Me, not so much. After having done different travels and different cruises through the years I wasn't as pleased with them for little things that in hindsight seem kinda snooty [emoji87]. We took them on a RC cruise a couple of months ago and they kept comparing it to the Carnival cruise. My daughter even gasped excitedly at dinner one night when she saw another ship out of the window saying "Mommy look! I think it's Carnival!" At one point the other family at our dinner table expressed that their son (same age as my daughter) wouldn't go to the kids room. My son leaned over and loudly whispered "ask your parents to take you on a Carnival cruise next time" to which my daughter eagerly nodded. Lol. Needless to say between RC & Carnival my kids prefer Carnival. They're getting so big so fast (currently 7 and 10) and I haven't quite perfected my time freezing device [emoji6]. As such I'm running out of time for them to still be interested in an Uber expensive Disney cruise so looks like I'll be making my way back to Carnival through the years. We've got a NCL booked later this year (& DH and I have a Celebrity on the books) so the verdicts still out which line will be the favorite. Thanks for the tips!! The FTTF pass along with my growing curiosity about this WCMC I see everyone posting about may have me booking another Carnival cruise sooner rather than later. Lol [emoji1]

  7. Getting up at 7 AM to acquire a chair is not in my definition of 'vacation' (and I refuse to be a chair hog).

The only answer would seem to be (outside of passengers deploying common courtesy) is for the attendants to aggressively patrol the loungers. Particularly very early in the morning, if six chairs are reserved and nobody to be seen, leave a card and if the card is still there a half hour later remove the stuff.

I am reluctant to make the effort to do this (remove items) myself as I am on vacation and don't really need the drama of some knucklehead making a scene.

    .

I wholeheartedly agree! It is vacation which means sleeping late and no drama! [emoji5]

  8.

Can anyone tell me what happened if people were caught on the Paradise smoking? Were they taken off the ship or just wrist slapped? Seems hard to control short of guests turning other people in..

I wondered the same thing! Seems like people refuse to follow rules anymore so I could see someone intentionally booking a non smoking cruise and choosing to openly smoke just to be obnoxious. Good question! How would they enforce it?

  9. We cruise on cost and itinerary and would love there to be no smoking but accept that others would want to smoke. I wish smokers would be confined to a single room with an expellair with an efficient scrubber.

Ditto!! Us too on all accounts! I see people cruise one cruise line or one ship only regardless of where it's going. We book based on itinerary, sale dates and cost. We've gotta juggle work and kids' school schedule so not nearly as flexible.

Smoke free or smoke restricted sounds nice as well. My husband enjoys the casino and since there's usually smoking allowed in there I don't go with him. He dislikes the smoking but it usually seems that all casinos practically equate a smoky environment.

I'd book a non smoking cruise in a heartbeat but wouldn't want to pay more for it.

  10. I tried ordering it this way on my first Alaska cruise, and the waiter (older, who said he had been wait staff with carnival 25 years) got kind of twitty & said he had never heard of it, request did not go over well. But I did get a medium done WCMC, so maybe he just didn't know?

What's WCMC? And while I'm at it what's DH? I see people use it to seemingly describe significant others. I jokingly suggested to hubby it stood for "damn husband" but he side eyed me. LOL [emoji23] He wasn't nearly as amused as I was. [emoji6]

  11. Take half as many clothes. Take more money than you think you will need. Spend $20 in the casino to remind yourself why you dont gamble. Join in a Lido game, join a line dance. Get up early and watch a sunrise. Find the "wind tunnel" door at the front of the ship and take silly pictures! (Our 1st cruise on the Paradise we spent probably 20 min every morning doing dumb stuff at those doors!) And HAVE FUN and TRY NEW THINGS!

I love this!! How fun! Makes you remember all the fun stuff about why we all enjoy vacationing instead of focusing on the little annoyances that may occur. Thanks!

  12. Awesome review! It brought back so many memories for me! DH and I sailed on the Pride of America for our honeymoons few years ago! I have a question for you about cruising while preggo. I'm currently 11 weeks and we just booked a cruise to Bermuda with Royal in May. I will be 21 weeks at the time. How many weeks were you on this trip and how did you feel overall? I have a 7 month old and felt great during my pregnancy with him and I'm feeling great so far with baby #2. I'm just wondering if being at sea had any effect on you? Or did you feel normal? Congratulations to you guys on your upcoming new addition! It's so much fun! We are debating on whether or not to bring our baby on the Bermuda cruise (to answer your earlier question about youngest is 6 months on most North America cruises =)) so don't worry baby won't slow your cruising down one bit! I'm sure he or she will love it just as much as you guys do! Feel free to message me if you want to talk babies and pregnancy!

I cruised Alaska while 6 months pregnant. I didn't have any adverse effects on the boat. It actually kinda rocked me to sleep in a soothing manner. There's certain excursions you can't do while expecting but overall don't worry about difficulties with cruising pregnant. It's all a great experience- cruising and expecting a precious baby! Congratulations to you and WillowVacay!! LOVED the review!! Thank you! We've contemplated this cruise but it's so expensive plus airfare to Hawaii! Eek! I have a former co-worker who took this cruise and complained incessantly about the ship so it made me rethink it. We've been to Oahu a couple times but I'd love to visit more islands next trip to Hawaii. You're making me strongly rethink this trip. I think I just may add it back into our travel plans within the next few years. Thanks again WillowVacay and best of luck on an easy delivery and a beautiful healthy baby!! Motherhood will change your entire life in the very best way!! It's the kind of love that you've never known!! Enjoy your journey and don't worry. Baby WillowVacay won't slow y'all down. He/she will just make it better because you'll experience it all together as a family. My kids (7 & 10) LOVE cruising!! While we try to get away alone without them once in awhile it's never on a cruise anymore because that's such a perfect family vacation! Thanks again for your awesome detailed report and enjoy your amazing life journey!

  13. To me, the ongoing and everlasting issue of "chair hogs" is simple and clear:

Some people simply have no class and you cannot make a silk purse from a horse's caboose.

Personally, I laugh at them. I mean it, I watch the action of these inconsiderate "gavones" with great amusement. And they have more stories than Mother Goose if asked to justify their selfish acts.

The day people like this can spoil my cruise is the day I give up cruising. I don't pay thousands of dollars to lounge around a ship's pool each sea day - I can lounge around my own pool, choose my own music and not have to listen to screaming and other prepubescent manifestations.

The sea is peaceful and tranquil if you allow it to be. The K-Mart Code of Conduct should not be allowed to disrupt that - and allowing it to is self-inflicted.

Enjoy the show - it truly rivals the Celebrity Theater at times.

    Spill in Aisle 3!

I love everything about this quote!! Lol. Hilarious and 100% accurate.

  14. We just disembarked from a RC cruise out of Miami a couple of weeks ago. Our return flight home was at 9:30am. It was very close and my nerves were shot! We made it and it was fine but I was a bit concerned at dinner the last night of the cruise and didn't sleep well because I was fretting over it. Luckily there was plenty of room on the other flights for the remainder of the day. However being stranded in an airport with young fussy children (if we'd missed our flight) was not something we were looking forward to experiencing.
