  1. Just don't ever pre-tip. It's insulting. It makes you look like a tool. What you are doing is letting that person know that you think they are going to give you crappy service, so you're going to throw money around to see if you can make them jump. They will give you good service in spite of the tip, but they will think of you as a jerk the entire time.

I disagree with this. I don’t think they see it as an insult at all. And it is not intended as one either.

  2. There will be a couple of bartenders in the Haven. We typically tip $5-$10 to each one on the first day, introduce ourselves, and then receive fantastic service all week. We usually stop there before dinner each night and give extra tips at that time. I do not tip every time I get a drink there; for example, if I get a few drinks during the day while sitting around the pool, I do not tip. I take care of them at night, and also give another "end of the cruise" tip. This has always worked well for us, and ensured great service! The bartenders also are very happy to create non-alcoholic fun drinks for my son.

  3. Hi friends! Thank you for posting all the officers for the Escape! However, does anyone know the current concierge and maitre'd in the Haven restaurant?? I am also wondering if anyone knows where Edgar Domingo is currently? He used to be asst. maitre'd in Haven restaurant on the Breakaway (last Feb. and prior), but have heard mixed things about where he currently is.

    Thanks in advance, and TGIF!

  4. Are you looking for something specific? You keep posting about this, but I'm dying to know what it is exactly you're looking for to see before making the jump?

I would really suggest looking on YouTube. There are thousands of videos about the various ships and their Havens. Maybe that will help you decide, or not.

Wondering the same thing myself - I have seen you post this numerous times. Looking on YouTube is a great suggestion!

  5. Kids shouldn’t be allowed in the haven pool area. That’s why there are slides and pools on the pool deck. Or put the kids in the kids programs, we pay to relax in peace not listen to your kids splashing and taking up the spas in the haven area.

Why? Is their money not green?

  6. We are platinum on DCL, all concierge, and have sailed all 4 ships. We do not sail with children either. We have been in the Haven on Norwegian 6x.

I rather like the Haven experience better. I like the contained, private area for the ship within a ship concept. We've never had an issue with service on either, though I think you'll find the service outside the concierge area on Disney to be better than outside the Haven area on Norwegian. If you go on a ship that has a Haven restaurant, it's very good, with my only gripe being the menu is static. You can arrange for other things to eat, but I'd never eat there every night. If you have any specific questions, I'll be happy to try to answer.

I'm not discounting the OP's experience at all. We too have been bothered by unsupervised children in the Haven. Inconsiderate parents should be forced into dishwashing or public bathroom cleaning if caught red-handed, sitting idly by sleeping or reading or quietly enjoying a cocktail while their kids run wild in the Haven. Your key card will literally say "Welcome to Your Sanctuary" if in the Haven. Team Norwegian should strive to keep it as such, no matter what your age (we've never encountered raucous, drunken adults in the Haven, but inevitably as soon as someone says the children were unruly, you can queue the 'drunken adults are just as bad' counter argument.).

    wow

  7. Been in Haven twice on Breakaway beginning of February. NEVER had a problem with children. Did meet a very cute year old that is now my boyfriend. He called my sisters and I (all around 60 or so) "THE GIRLS". Gotta love that kid!!!! And we did.

How cute! Imagine if all people enjoyed children and had your attitude!

  8. Don't know if there's a sign stating everyone must be quiet. Next month will be our first venture into Haven territory. I think, however, the biggest beef some folks have is that the Haven is very clearly advertised with the mindset that it's a "haven" from the rest of the ship, hence peaceful.

One way or another, I've never cruised NCL thinking I'll be far from the madding crowds. Considering we can only travel during peak school break times (husband is a public school teacher/dean), crowds, lines and yes, loud kids, are par for the course for us.

My own solution is going to be purchasing passes to Vibe and get away from children, however, I've been told time and again it's not necessary by other experienced Haven-ites. Seems the kid factor is the exception and not the rule. We shall see. I know I'll definitely be packing my AirPods just to tune in and zone out as necessary.

Unless it is new, there is no sign. There is, however, a sign on ONE hot tub saying 'Adults Only'. Therefore, children are welcome in the second hot tub.

  9. There were just too many negatives to give a good rating to the Norwegian Epic (though overall, I had a great cruise with family).

    - Haven takes up 1/3 of top deck which leads to crowding on the rest of the "pool" deck. Not to mention that the pools are very small as a result.

    - Food in the Garden Café/Buffet was the same every day and was of a lower quality then you could get at a low-end restaurant. I almost laughed myself to death when what was advertised as "Italian night"in the buffet consisted of 3 or so bland dishes to include a tray of soggymeatballs.

    - Every venue on the ship, for the most part, has to be reserved in advance (up to days in advance) in order to use them.

    - Finding out after boarding all additional costs (Really?$1 USD to play a game of darts?), etc., left a bad taste in my mouth.

    - Never saw the cruise director, had to deal with his inept staff (and I say inept in that most of the time when running activities, you got the impression they were not only not engaged, but were doing the activity for the first time)

    - Was really disappointed in the "Escape Room" in that once the first team finished (there are multiple teams in the same room)the other teams were not given the opportunity to finish. All the escape rooms I've done ashore only has one team in the room at a time.

    - Shopping on-board is very limited in scope. A shop just selling watches right next to a shop just selling handbags?

    - With the exception of the Teppanyaki restaurant, the other specialty restaurants we tried (Cagney’s – Steak House, Moderno Churrascaria –Brazilian Steak Hose) were not especially memorable, or for that matter of a quality I would expect. The Steak in Cagney’s is no better then I could get at a middleof the road Steak House (American Chain “Longhorn” comes to mind, in other words not up to “Ruth Chris” standards).

    - Rooms have been reviewed before. I tried to like them, but ended up finding them below average.

There are many other issues, but all-in-all, don't take a cruise on this ship

Is there anything positive you can offer?
