  1. I searched but couldn't find an answer. Since my last cruise I am now using a insulin pen. My question pertains to sharps containers. Does the ship provide one in my cabin upon request for my used needles or do I need to bring my own?

  2. We will be on the Royal Princess. If I select Anytime Dining what can I expect as to wait time?

There are only two of us. We would most likely dine around 6 - 6:30 most nights. We don't care if we sit with others or what size the table is. We also don't care about who our waiters are. So we are very easy. Ideally we would like to get right in or have a very short wait. Is this do-able? What should we expect? Oh and I would rather not make a reservation, kinda defeats the purpose (smile).

  3. We will be sailing on the Royal and have booked cabin E433 which is mid-ship very close to the mid-ship elevators. I am wondering if the lack of mid-ship stairs will be a big problem? While I normally would take stairs if only going up or down a couple of decks I have no problem taking the elevator IF they aren't overly crowded and busy.

Can anyone who has sailed on the Royal and had cabins mid-ship comment on this issue? Is it bad enough to consider moving forward or aft? I hate to move though because we were lucky enough to snag a cabin with a larger balcony.

  4. So SeaCBear,

I am the original poster. If I understand you correctly you only turned off data roaming on your phone and still received text messages through the ships free WiFi ( for free ship information and not Internet)? You did not turn on airplane mode on your phone? If so this makes sense to me. BTW, I have a Android phone if that makes any difference. Using this method I would also still be able to receive and make a voice phone call at $2.49 per minute but my phone would not be able to download any data or updates to apps? Do I have this right? If so it is exactly what I want to do.

  5. I was exactly in your shoes and I choose the Eastern for 2015. It will be my second time on this itinerary having done it before in 2005. The only difference is in 2005 we went to St. Maarten and this time we go to Antigua and Princess Cays. The rest are the same. The islands were so beautiful and I knew I wanted to go back again someday and see more of them. I have been to Aruba on our Panama cruise and I was not impressed. The eastern islands are more lush, more mountainous than Aruba. Aruba is basically a desert island. I like the more tropical islands myself. If you have not done the eastern I would recommend it but in the end it is your choice.

  6. I am confused. I have been reading a lot of threads on here about smart phones on cruise ships.

I will be on the Royal Princess and I have a Verizon smart phone.

All I want to be able to do is text. No voice calls. I do plan on purchasing a Internet package so WiFi will be an option although I plan to use that mostly on my netbook. I understand to send a text is $.50 and to receive is $.05.

My question is this... if I put my phone in airplane mode and then turn WiFi on my phone back on will I be able to send and receive texts? I have read conflicting things. Has someone done this and can tell me for sure?

  7. Okay ladies, what clothing would you suggest for zip lining in Costa Rica where it is very warm and humid?

I would like to wear shorts and a tank top with tennis shoes but I don't know if this is acceptable. Input please?

  8. I too would recommend that your 5 yr old use the upper bunk. You will all be much more comfortable. I would just sit down with your child and talk to her about using the upper bunk and that it will be her bed for the cruise. Be firm. Tell her that is where she is going to have to sleep on this cruise. And above all don't let your husband cave and sleep there himself. If your daughter knows in advance that this is where she is expected to sleep and you keep reinforcing this before the cruise I think she will come around. Make her see it as an adventure.

The only place in a balcony cabin for a roll away is across the balcony door. It will make no difference how the beds are configured, either together or apart.

I would sure avoid a roll away bed if it were me.

  9. The time should be the same in June. Right now Miami is on Eastern Standard time. And right now St. Thomas is one hour ahead in Altlantic Time.

When we go on Daylight Savings Time we jump ahead an hour. Now we are the same as the eastern Caribbean as they do not observe Daylight Savings Time and therefore remain the same.

The reason I know this is because last August I checked the local times for both Florida and the eastern Caribbean ports we are going to. They were exactly the same. This was for St. Thomas, St. Maarten, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, and Barbados.

Then when we changed to Standard time in October I checked again. Sure enough, now the eastern Caribbean was one hour ahead because of the eastern US "falling back" when switching to Standard time.

So in June there should be no difference.
