  1. I went to a wedding where the bride's mother wore a cardigan and flip flops......She wasn't disrespectful, she just didn't have a clue about style. There are women out there who just see clothes as something functional and regard a ball gown in the same way as a blouse and trousers. It's just the way they are. I find this whole thread akin to bullying. Or perhaps women that don't dress like a Vogue fashion plate should be banned from Cunard?

  2. For the Masked Night, you will bring your mask, if you wish, to the Queen's Room if you want to attend the Masked Ball. You should not wear your mask to dinner, and it is not necessary in other areas of the ship.

I've always worn my mask throughout the ship and as I walk into the dining room. Plenty of others do as well.

  3. My suggestion is to take some ballroom dance lesson before boarding. You will get a much fuller Queens experience.

You do not need to go to the bother and expense of dance lessons to go on a cruise. Two left feet are fine. Really.

  4. On our October 7 night Athens to Venice, we did not have a senior officers party and enquired and was told they were not done on 7 nights. I thought this was odd as we have had them before on the fjords 7 nights. Perhaps it is just the Med fly-cruises as they can be relatively port intensive, I really don't know and they didn't embellish when I asked. I think they make it up as they go.

I was on QV in September for 14 nights and no Senior Officers party. I asked the Hotel manager why and she said they don't have one for 7 nights anymore. I replied there are a lot of guests on for 14 nights and their cruises were sold as 14 nights. She then admitted she didn't know why the parties had stopped, it was a directive from Southampton.

  5. Bermuda will not take US dollars as a rule, even though most travel guides say they will. Perhaps shops that are geared towards tourists but you will need Bermudian dollars for bars, coffee shops etc. However, Bermudian banknotes are the loveliest in the world. (official).

  6. Could the new ship be names "Princess Diana"? or would that be too confusing due to the Princess Cruise line? What I'm really getting at is would they ever not use Queen?

There never actually was a "Princess Diana" she could only be called that if she was a daughter of the sovereign or the daughter of a prince. Her correct title when she was married was "HRH The Princess of Wales" and after divorce her title was "Diana, Princess of Wales."

  7. We have an upcoming on Viking Ocean's new Viking Sun that ends in London.......Well, Greenwich.......Still closer than S'oton.

Greenwich is part of London and a few minutes on the train or light Railway gets you right into the middle of it! A bit different from "Rome" or "Florence"

  8. On round Britain cruises I have seen people bring huge amounts of alcohol on board, they buy it at supermarkets, which they know of course.

Then there is the road back from Gibraltar town centre; all you can hear is the clink of bottles as guests stagger back to the ship with their "shopping". I've seen crew members bring there stash back in shopping trollies!!

  9. Just off my umpteenth TA, really people wear just about anything during the day from bespoke suits to tank tops and multiple tatoos for the gents. especially in the smoking area in the rear deck . This talented fellow with his bodyguard was on board the July 21 Westbound and was mingling nicely. He did not however don a suit and tie (bad for his image I suppose) and seemed to take meals in the buffet instead of the Grill.

Travis is a QM2 regular. He doesn't like flying as he was involved in an air crash in the past.

  10. I suspect if you were to ask a porter off the job whether there was an expectation of tips, the answer would be different than you expect. It isn't as if they will dump your suitcases into the harbor, but yes - they DO expect tips. And they are appreciated.

They do not expect tips, they move too fast anyway.

  11. ;)

Maybe some would say we've been lucky but I would retort that you make your own luck.

We were on an "unlucky" table and it wasn't our fault that one of the people on it was effing and blinding, another told a waiter to "b****r off" and his wife told me to leave her teapot alone when I was nowhere near it. It's the only time we have had to change tables.
