  1. I’ve cruised a fair amount. Don’t get me wrong I still have to work full time and typically only get 3 weeks vacation a year and not even each of those is spent at sea, but I’ve done enough so that I know the drill. But I never was drawn to the appeal of the Fun ships. Mainly a grew up on Royal, and then found the freestyle vibe of Norwegian to be relaxing and easy.

I started looking to branch out when after several cruises and shopping around I was finding all of the same itineraries. If you’re going to the Caribbean on NCL you get Nassau, St Thomas and Tortola, or Roatan, Costa Maya, Cozumel and maybe a private island. If you’ve done it a couple times you start looking for more.

So here I am, my first fun ship on the 8-day sailing to Grand Turk, La Romana, Curacao and Aruba. It was the itinerary that drew me to this ship. That, and when I booked I found the exclusive Havana area and felt like if I was unsure about all the things I read about the carnival party crowd, this would at least give me some reprieve if needed.

I had 18 months to prepare for this sailing, and while surfing the CC carnival boards I found a lot of vets, either complaining about changes or championing for carnival overall. I found very few new to carnival cruisers who had experience on other lines.

What a long winded into to why I’m here... let’s get down to who I am: 36, turning 37 on this trip. I cruise every year for my birthday. I travel solo 90% of the time and I prefer to make my vacation time all about me right now. Staying in Havana interior cabin 5211.

For those of you new to carnival if you have questions you want me to find, I would be more than happy to go hunting for info.

    More to come....

  2. Has anyone had experience being able to use the cruise critic app on the social media plan?

I could on another lines social package, but hoping to do a live review on my first carnival sailing but would prefer to only pay for social

  3. Yea, in the video I point out the specific hut. Then even accepted my ship card as a deposit.

I wonder if it’s still there post hurricane? I tried to look through YouTube videos from this year and can’t see it when they pan the beach.

I hope I can find something. The mats you guys have are exactly what I love to have in the ocean!! Thanks your help

  4. I learned my lesson this year sailing in June for the first time (I generally like late April and late September for my birthday) but sailing to Alaska wasn’t available then. Obviously there were a ton of kids on board, but I wasn’t prepared for the major increase of overall kids and large herds of families traveling in general, airports, restaurants, etc.

I love kids, but the volume in June was overwhelming for a single, no kids lifestyle dweller like me. I swore I would never sail (possibly even vacation in general) in the summer months again!! [emoji15]

  5. Did the Vibe on all 3 of my Escape cruises and I never wore the stupid wristband. Used the key card for entrance and after swiping my card as I ordered my first of many drinks, the guys behind the bar knew me and knew that I belonged. Miss shot o'clock.

AGREE 100% about shot o’clock!! I never understood why they gave a bracelet to begin with because of the keycard entry. Those bartenders learn your name so fast, there is really no reason to any other identification !!

  6. Someone earlier mentioned “guards” also being able to validate Havana access via your stateroom card. Is this true?

I also dislike wearing a wristband (tan lines, yuck!) but don’t mind showing it or my key card if asked. I’m a carnival newbie sailing horizon next month, just trying to get as much info as possible from the boards before we sail!!

    Thanks y’all!

  7. Hey guys!!

I’ll be porting in Grand Turk for the very first time this fall and looking for information on rentals available for the beach. This is the most private-island like place on the itinerary and I have read about the beach right at the port.

Just wondering if there are mats for rent?

I love to lay in the shallow water and tan close by the ship!! I tried to search and could only find posts for 2014. Anyone recently been to GT and seen these?

    Thanks so much!!

  8. Thank you for writing this comparison! I sailed on the Escape last year and the bliss a couple weeks ago. I have been trying to get as much information as possible to help me prepare for differences going into my first ever carnival cruise on the horizon this fall.

Very glad I booked the Havana even if I had to go to a Havana interior from a balcony for the price.

  9. Following along with you - we will be boarding as you are coming off :):) You mentioned the comedian you saw was Greg Warren - who is the second one? Also, I have read lots of good things about the band Siglo that plays around the ship; are they still on board?

Thanks for taking the time to share your trip with us!!

Siglo was awesome on our sailing (6/23) I hope they are still on board. They were a ton of fun as were all of the bartenders and servers at the cavern club. Hope you get see siglo on your sailing too!!

  10. Has anyone eaten at Cagneys outside on the Waterfront while sailing up to Sawyer glacier. We are celebrating our 25th anniversary that day and have 8 pm reservations. Not sure if it would be too cold to eat outside. We would live to enjoy the scenery. Thanks.

While we were eating at la Cucina I saw two crew members eating outside wrapped in their deck blankets. I thought it would be too cold to be outside too, but wasn’t even thinking Alaskan Cruises all provide really nice fluffy blankets you can take with you around deck.

That may be an option for you

  11. Thursday our last day at sea for the week was chilly, overcast and rained on and off. The ship was flying and with higher winds we were rocking and rolling!!! It was a quiet day- a large crowd on the pool deck for the England vs. Belgium World Cup game.

I was slightly over served during the 90s party so we spent the majority of the afternoon napping in the room listening to the waves. We woke to screams from the balcony above us and saw and great show happening just off the port side - a small whale [emoji229] jumping and diving alongside the ship for close to 5 minutes!! It was awesome.

Dinner at cagneys was amazing, my first time trying it. The ladies sitting beside us were complainers and they never really stopped telling us (unsolicited) how much they didn’t like things about the ship. We suffered through and headed out to see our favorite staff and bartenders for the night!! It was an early night but we held on til midnight before bowing out.774035bd6aeb4e45616e009f6fb77951.jpg308e07567ca2d85f28cc400720f5a48b.jpgad5694daef78e6f7e62529d7f08d7b07.jpg
