I will be taking a cruise at the end of September with stops in Juneau, Ketchikan, and Sitka. I am wondering which port I should do my whale watching tour from. I know there are options in any of the three, but I'm wondering if one is better than the others.
-
If they "confiscate" items, do they return them at the end of the cruise? And do they open your luggage without you present or do you have to go open it for them?
-
I have seen that travel clothes irons and steamers are no longer allowed on the ships because they don't allow "heating" appliances for safety reasons. Does this include hair appliances such as straightening or curling irons?
-
Does anyone have a copy of the most up-to-date menu for the Pinnacle Grill? Is it always the same regardless of location, Caribbean, Europe or Alaska?
-
Thanks. I was hoping that would be the answer. :)

I'm trying to determine if the bathrooms on the Eurodam have safety grab bars in the shower. I thought I'd seen them in a various photos, but now I can't find it. My mother has some limited mobility. She's not in a wheelchair, so we don't need that kind of access, but I'd like to make sure there are actual safety bars she can use.

Thank you for helping clear that up. It makes perfect sense now.
Anyone know where you can find a rate sheet or info on the variety of packages available?
-
So I'm a bit confused by what I've read in various posts on the forum. Obviously, I know that HAL offers several internet packages of different minutes to be used during the cruise. What confuses me is that it seems like people are saying there is some sort of "free" wifi you can connect to and use for free texting apps (Cruise Messenger, WhatsApp, etc.)? Am I just misreading?

Does anyone know if that means they've removed the extra storage above the sofa? It seems a bit silly to put the tv in the one location that isn't really convenient for watching. End of the bed seems like a better option, but that's probably me trying to be logical. ;p

A decent Tip works magic in getting items added or taken from your cabin !
I will definitely keep that in mind. We may find that we don't want to remove anything, but it seems like they've crammed a lot of extra items in a very small space.
-
Can you really ask them to remove small furniture (like the extra chair or the table) and the throw pillows?
-
I was reading a description on Cruise Critic that says the balcony rooms on the Eurodam have drawers under the beds. Is this true? If you can't put your suitcases under the bed, what do people generally do with them after you unpack?

Thank you all. This is very helpful.

I noticed that as a 3* Mariner, you get 25% off on reservations at the Pinnacle Grill. Is this only on the ship or does this apply if you book in advance on the website?

Eurodam Alaska September 2017. This will be my first cruise in well over twenty years. I'm traveling with my mom, who is a 3* Mariner, but she hasn't traveled on HAL in quite a few years. I've heard that we'll have the option of a Mariner lunch on embarkation day. I've also heard that it can be a mob scene. Any other recommendations for lunch on embarkation day that won't include a mob? What do "people" generally do?

Thank you. The video was very helpful.

We are cruising on the Eurodam to Alaska in September. I've seen many people mention that there are both US outlets and European outlets in the cabins. I'm wondering, are the "European" outlets the 2-prong mainland plugs or the 3-prong UK plugs. I was thinking of getting a USB charger so we can use both outlets, but don't want to get the wrong kind.

How early can you count on disembarking on the last day with a 7am port time? We are arriving in Seattle at 7am and I'm trying to figure out if we can make an 11:15 am train.
-
Another quick question. My Mother had a Mariner number so she booked both our cabin and my brother's cabin. Will she be able to take all of us to the Mariner lunch on embarkation day or is she the only one eligible for this perk?

I'm traveling on the Eurodam in September for first Alaska cruise. I have a few questions that I haven't seen answers for yet. We are in a veranda cabin on Rotterdam deck.
1. How many pillows in the room? Can you request additional?
2. What type of bedding? Comforters? Blankets?
3. Where can you fill water bottles?
4. Is the water from the tap okay to drink? (I know it's probably a dumb question but...)
5. How many electrical outlets in Verandah cabin?
6. I've seen restrictions on irons in the rooms. Can I take a flattening iron for my hair?
7. Can you request to have the table in your cabin removed to provide extra space?
Finally, just because I'm curious, when I took a cruise a million years ago, we took our life jackets to muster. I see now that it is no longer the standard. Why is that, Captain Ron?

I have what I hope is are two simple questions. No debates. No vents.1. If the gratuity is added to the cabin each day, is an additional gratuity necessary? I understand if a crew member has gone above and beyond you can tip more, but I want to have a full expectation of what is required. Many, many moons ago when I first cruised, I remember crew members complaining when they got stiffed on tips and "accidentally" retaliating.
2. Do the crew members that work with you actually get the tip or is this a split situation?

Has anyone does this activity in Sitka? I have my initial thoughts on it, but wondering how this reserve differs from a zoo exhibit or wildlife safari. Is it worth the time?
