  1. I'm looking to find out the (complimentary) morning coffee situation on the Anthem. Not interested in Starbucks or specialty coffees.

I'm assuming that we'll need to go to the buffet or the dining room?

What is the creamer situation? Do they provide flavored creamers or do they provide the standard 1/2 & 1/2, whole milk, skim milk? I'm fine with bringing along single-serve flavored creamers (if allowed), but won't do that if there is flavored creamer provided.

Can we order a pot of coffee from room service each morning?

Thanks in advance for any info.

  2. You can absolutely cancel a bungalow or a cabana within the proper time frame (I don't recall what that is.) In fact' date=' if there is a price drop, you can cancel and rebook it.

I canceled a bungalow and then rebooked it due to a price drop for our upcoming cruise. Later, cabanas became available, so I canceled the bungalow again. Still waiting for the cabana price drop. :D

There may be a risk that the cabana or bungalow may not be available when you try to rebook it, so it may be better to call Shore Excursions to see if they can do this for you. 800-398-9819[/quote']

Thanks so much for the info!

  3. For our cruise the cabanas are available now for reserving online in Cruise Planner. If I reserve/pay now and then decide at a later date we don't want to use it, can I cancel (prior to sailing) and get a refund? I feel like I should take advantage of reserving now in case they go fast.

I've seen posts about people pre-booking things then "returning" them and re-booking at a sale price. Just wondering if this was an option for all things you book/purchase/reserve online prior to sailing...or just specific items/activities.

    Thanks in advance!

  4. Keep checking and book the second they are open for bookings since they only put a portion of the reservations online and they fill very quickly. We missed out on the online reservations for the puzzle escape room, Northstar and Ifly but we able to make reservation once we boards. Use the Royal IQ app to make reservations as soon as you board. If you are having issues getting it set up, go make reservation at the box office in the theatre and then figure out Royal IQ.

How far ahead would you suggest I start to check daily? We're not sailing til November. I thought I'd start checking at the 90 day mark sometime in June. Wise choice or no? I can't really see myself starting daily checks today with over 200 days to go...

  5. Yes, you put your phone into airplane mode and then enable wifi for the Royal IQ app to work. If your group is on two reservations, you can link them so you can see everyone's cruise planner in yours. You will also be able to make reservations for all too.

Thank you. We do, in fact, have 2 reservations so I will need to do this step.

  6. I know I read somewhere that you can order a six pack of beer or soda & have it waiting for you in the refrigerator in the cabin. They started that when they started emptying the refrigerators. I think you send a note to the concierge. Thanks in advance!

I saw it on RCI website Cruise Planner - under "gifts." It looks like you can order it/purchase it and it will be delivered to your room on day 1 or 2. I have my eye on the bottle of Absolut and 6 pack of Sprite lol. Prices seem pretty reasonable.

  7. I thought the same thing we redeemed VISA OBC rewards about a week ago, it's now showing up for pre cruise purchases.

How far in advance should we redeem for OBC? I am waiting now for my Visa to arrive. We plan to pay for the cruise with it in order to earn extra OBC. So obviously I'll wait to redeem until after our final payment. But I'm wondering how long it takes from redeeming to availability? I'm hoping to use the OBC on excursions and/or Voom, which I'll do as soon as I can (90 days out right?)

    Thanks!

  8. Just off the Anthem. We were able to share the internet connection on several devices at the same time using a Wifi Hotspot / Router. I do not want to say the name of the router used as the IT department might block its Mac address. I purchased it for less then $25 on Amazon. Took seconds to set up using the app it came with and then we all logged on. Shared internet between 2 cabins and six people with decent signal. Speed was on 3MGB but it was fast enough. Message me and I will tell you which one worked. I will even sell you mine as I dont need it anymore.

Hi- I'd be interested in talking with you. I just sent you a friend request on here...because I don't see how to send you a private message. We're sailing on Anthem in Nov and I'm trying to figure out my options for wifi. Thanks!

  9. ^^^ just think about that for a sec - 10 years ago very few if any 12 year old (or adult for that matter) had a phone on a cruise - how did they get by?

You are absolutely correct. I have no doubt that we'd get by without them. I'm not implying that we wouldn't. I am considering having texting available purely for convenience.

BTW the 12 year old doesn't even have a cell phone. So he'd prob use one of ours since my husband and I will most likely be together.

  10. That works if it is not one 12 year old boy that you are trying to keep up with!!

hahaha! our 12 year old son is the issue as well. I'm trying to decide if we're going to spend the money for Voom for all of us when we sail in November. I've read through several threads on this issue....and read many responses lecturing that we don't NEED technology and why can't we just tell our kids where to be and when. It's frustrating. I just want the ability to text them if/when they don't show up for a reservation or to get ready for dinner or whatever. I don't want to be running around a huge ship looking for them. I'm looking forward to being disconnected for a week..I have no interest in any of us having the ability to stream tv or play games or text friends back home. I just want to be able to text IF NEEDED. Of course I will tell them where/when they need to be somewhere, but they are not perfect...and they'll be distracted I'm sure enjoying themselves!

So, thank you for your post :)

  11. But that is my question exactly - isn't texting OUTSIDE of the ship package? I understood that the packages provided by the cruise lines were only providing data, wifi, and voice (in varying amounts). That text, itself, was under the jurisdiction of your cell phone provider. Hence, I'm not intending to get an internet package on the ship because I don't really plan to use internet. Nor do I intend to use my phone for calls. But I want the ability to text, like you said, in order to receive texts if there is an emergency back home.

The website of my cell phone provider says in multiple places that I will not be charged for any texts I receive on land or at sea, but I will have to pay THEM (not the cruise line) a charge for any texts that I send. I'm here asking to find out if anyone else has had experience with texting (while not having a cruise line provided internet package), to make sure this is so.

Very interested in the responses to this post...I would like to know exactly this too. I need to check with my carrier too....

  12. Thanks for the responses (I think)

Since a few of you seem concerned with my use of mobile devices I'll let you know that I'm looking forward to being unconnected for awhile. But if I'm getting in a workout and my wife is somewhere else I may want to catch up with her and texting is the easiest way to do so.

Thanks to the few of you that gave me helpful advice and thanks to those concerned about my ability socialize. [emoji15]

I feel the exact same way...I can't wait to be unconnected, but want the ability to quickly (and cheaply) find out where the other 4 family members are!

  13. Why not just TALK to each other...find out where each of you will be...and texting becomes a non-issue! You will find each other!

Will we really find each other without wasting time looking all over the (huge) ship? I'm honestly curious about this. It's one of the things I'm truly undecided on whether or not purchasing for our Nov sailing. I actually don't want/need internet or care to check emails while we're on board (I'm on vaca!!). I also feel that there's plenty to keep us all entertained without internet. However...we are bringing 2 teenagers with us. I'm picturing all of us scattering and then when the time comes for a reservation no one will know where the others are. I know, some of you will say "What do you think we did before texting existed?" and "Just tell them what time to meet you" but, try as we might, we can't always rely on them to remember. And they're old enough to let them go wander and explore on their own, so we won't necessarily know where they are at any given time. They are a work in progress....husband included :D

Anyone chosen to travel with teenagers and NOT have the ability to text among the family? Just curious what others experience has been. Is it a pain in the butt trying to keep everyone in touch?

And again, I know that millions of families have cruised successfully for many years before texting was ever an option, and again, this is definitely a first-world-problem, but I like to research everything I can pre-trip. Thanks!!

  14. I'd like to follow this thread...I have been on cruises in the past (not since 2000) and used the scopolamine patch each time. I decided during one of the cruises (Alaska) to take it off and see what happened. It was a huge mistake and I was sick as a dog for a good 12-16 hours. We'll be on the Anthem in November and I'm wondering whether to use the patch again since my motion sickness hasn't gotten any better in the last 17 years (in fact may be worse). Following to see if there are any new solutions : )

  15. We have unlimited texting on Verizon...but I have to check on international options I guess. Not sure how that works. I'd like to be able to text the kids rather than rely on them to remember what time/place to meet us. Although my son doesn't have a cell phone yet (another issue) he has an iPod but that needs wifi for texting.

We're not sailing til November, so I have time to think about this and to research.
