  1. I think it depends on what your interests are.

Palamós is in the Costa Brava (rough coast). If you like sea landscape and pretty fisher towns, I would recommend you a little taste of Costa Brava in the nearby lovely Calella de Palafrugell (12 km from Palamós). Here you can visit the town and take the road that run along the coast and reach Llafranc in 15 or 20 minutes, have a drink in the al fresco terraces by the sea... (You can google it, you know) In a working day in May it still could be rather quite

If you like medieval towns you can visit Monells, Peratallada (also may be quite), Pals...

If you think, or you know already, that you can enjoy the works of the surrealist painter and sculptor Dalí, go for it!

  2. When travelling with a wheelchair, we are used to embark first/disembark last, in order not to interfere with the rest of the passengers

However, I wonder how this works in a cruise. Though I don't mind whether we embark first or not, I really expect not have to wait to disembark till all the cruisers are ashore

    What have been your experiences?

  3. Though it does raise the question are you required to purchase either the dinner or cocktail to see the show?

Hope to have this cleared up soon by those on her first few voyages!

I think so. They tell us, hey, you must pay for this special show... but look, I give you a drink! Or even a dinner!

And this has to be a shortened show, given that their regular shows are rather expensive, and they will make 2 performances a day...

  4. Well, in my booking it saids "Cirque du Soleil at see, show + cocktail"

In my TA booking saids "... The exclusive signature cocktail "Mediterranean Dream", which you can choose with or without alcohol, and you can taste while enjoying the amazing spectacle of Cirque du Soleil.

The Spanish website of MSC, only states " food only" (I understand without drinks) in dinner option. Nothing in cocktail option.

IMO, it doesn't make sense that we also must to pay for the show

  5. If you can, don't miss the inside of the Sagrada Família, it's so brigth and so different...

Like Beafamar said, book in advance if you go on your own, not only to avoid lines, but to get tickets, as they can sold out early

Two years ago I went whit DD (wheelchair user) like at noon. I only got tickets because I couldn't get the special fare for her at their website (that would not have been a problem, as I live at 30km)

Sagrada Família, Park Güell, Casa Milà (aka La Pedrera), Casa Batlló... Would be an amazing tour

  6. I really hope they give you a cabin and bump someone who has booked merely on the size, but that can be difficult to prove if the bumped guests don't know the system and how it works. they may actually be genuine special needs and just 1st time cruisers who don't know about the forms.

I expect MSC request them that form, too, and not bump nobody without asking first!

  7. I do find it intriguing how other cultures find the term 'handicapped' acceptable. As a disabled person I think it is quite insulting to hark back to times when one might have been 'handy' with ones cap in order to beg for money

I'm not English speaker and my level is quite basic. I don't get the difference, and I myself have written that my DD is handicapped, mirroring the title of the post.

In Spain we too have had some terms related to disabilitys that today sound quite offensive, and hardly anyone uses them

I think it may be a translation thing, too...

  8. My DD is handicapped, so I called MSC in order to book an adapted cabin. They told me the adapted cabins were sold out in the dates I asked for. They told me as well that sometimes those cabins were booked by people without any disabilities, only because they are bigger (not the OP situation). I have filled in a form about the disability of my daughter, as well as all the people with any disability must do. Then they assess if we deserve an adapted cabin more than the original bookers, and they can be moved…

  9. Hi, I've booked my first cruise, and we have chosen MSC Meraviglia!

I,ve booked through a TA and got a 250€ discount if prebook something extra. We've got an all inclusive offer, so we prebooked circ du soleil with cocktail.

Our TA called us and asked which day we wanted to go to, cause it was better have that confirmed in advance...
