I'm cruising the Fascination next year (Southern Caribbean leaving from San Juan, PR) and I'm looking for suggestions on the "must try" island food and drinks from the ports. Restaurant or bar recommendations near port are also welcome. I'm thinking of local favorites that I probably can't try here in California. For example, in San Juan I'd love to try mofongo and mallorcas.

Ports of call are San Juan PR, St. Thomas USVI, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and St. Maarten.

You can get prime rib and lobster, but not the same as the upgraded steakhouse options. Those are a different caliber.

Ok, thanks for the clarification! I'm not a big steak fan but my husband is, so I'll let him know. I'll probably just stick to the free menu.

 

Dinner was excellent. I had 2 lobsters and shared a steak with D#3. She would turn out to be a great food partner as the week went on. We both like to try new and different foods so we started ordering at least 2 appetizers and even an extra entre each, then tried some of all of it. D#1, with her gluten free choices, realized that she also liked more choices and made sure to pre-order 2 appetizers and 2 desserts too. The flourless chocolate cake that she ordered every night was absolutely delicious. That seemed to be something special that they do for the gluen free people, since I remember seeing it on the menu only once. I don't really love sweets, ( my favorite dessert was the cheese tray), but a few bites of that deep, dark, delicious cake was just perfect with a cup of hot coffee.

Hi there, great review so far! I heard somewhere that on most nights, there are "steakhouse" choices at the Dining Rooms for an extra $20, but on formal nights you can get lobster and other steakhouse items free of charge. Can you please confirm this for me? I will be doing this cruise in January and I'm super excited about all the food :D

Thanks for your review, I am taking this cruise next January. I'm also concerned about the traffic issue for Sanse- it will be festival weekend either at the start or at the end of our cruise. You said you walked to the Boatyard from the ship- is that a pretty easy walk, and how long did it take? Just wondering if it's worth skipping the cab fare.

Hi there, just a belated "thank you" for the detailed review and all the photos! I'm cruising the Fascination in January 2018 and I'm currently devouring any photos/details I can get of this ship and the ports of call :-) I haven't cruised in seven years, and this is my first time on Carnival so I really appreciate the photos of the Fun Times and dining room menus! I was really concerned about the lack of dining options on this ship, but the food sounds amazing. Looking forward to my first trip to PR!
