  1. Frequently checking for cruise planner sales over the past year I managed to get this excursion for $116 less than what they are charging for it onboard. It pays to check back often.
  2. Excursion today; Diamonds of the North. Eight hours, lunch included.
  3. Starlink gateway city remains to be London. Speeds are holding up well.
  4. Town: Looks like the airport is here. We've arrived to the pier. This will be my balcony view for the next two days. Not bad at all.
  5. The sun was starting to break through the cloud layer. Even close to town there were whales. A tunnel to somewhere.
  6. As we moved deeper into the fjord the weather was getting better and better. Some other guests ventured up to the helipad. I didn't realize how much farming took place here. At last the town was in sight.
  7. A small flotilla of boats on the port side. Accompanied by lots of birds so I suspected they were whale watching boats. A way off in the distance but there were occasional water spouts from whales. It was turning into a nice morning. Yawn... more whales. Frequent waterfalls.
  8. This video gives you a better feel for the experience. JW Akureyi Fjord.mp4
  9. As we entered the fjord to our destination it started to brighten up. Many communities along the shore on each side. Whales of course and quite a few.
  10. It was cold and windy on the helipad so I went up to the lounge for a nice hot coffee. Fortunately the lounge coffee machine has been operational at any hour I have visited yet. Rain moving in, time to warm up.
  11. Fred Olsen Line Borealis having left Akureyri and now sailing in the opposite direction.
  12. Another break in the cloud layer. Somewhere just before or around midnight we crossed the Arctic Circle Apple maps has the Arctic circle somewhat lower than the generally accepted latitude.
  13. I don't know if I can ever top what I witnessed in Antarctica. There were so many whales I stopped taking photos and just watched the show with my eyes.
  14. Sunset at current position 10:43pm Sunrise at current position 2:53am
  15. Through a break in the weather we get our first distant glimpse of Iceland.
  16. I think when they don't send out paper invitations it's easy to forget about it.
  17. Top tier in 20 minutes. Meanwhile they've uploaded the day 7 cruise compass: JW May 15 day 7 cruisecompass.pdf
  18. Starlink gateway city has switched back to London. That make sense given our position. Foggy again, following fog protocols with ship whistle every two minutes.
  19. My attendant was delivering them but with evening only service he was providing that days compass while I was at dinner. I had him stop, YMMV.
  20. Day 6 cruise compass: JW May 15 day 6 cruisecompass.pdf
