I might suggest that if you get that cold you might want to get the spa relaxation package. This includes the hot stone recliners.  They are absolutely wonderful. It also includes the sauna and the heated hydrotherapy pool.  They may also do a daily pass, but I’m not sure of the price.

This is the best advice and is what I do. I always buy the thermal suite pass. I spent a year on chemotherapy and my veins collapsed during treatment and my “thermostat “ has never been the same. I am always cold. We’ve sailed Alaska at least 6 times and I always get the pass and spend time warming up on the heated loungers or the hydro pool. With that all being said, I’ve never been so cold in Alaska that I’ve been uncomfortable. Another person mentions bringing long Johns and that is also excellent advice. The new ones are basically like leggings. You could always just use leggings as a layer too.

It used to be cheaper to buy it onboard on embarkation day but reports pre- covid were that the pre purchase price was cheaper if bought on line.

We bought it back when it was cheaper on embarkation day and I did see the Spa staff honour the rate for those that had pre-purchased and they were issued OBC for the difference.  I think it was $25-35 at the time but this was on a longer sailing.

Yes, our last cruise in December 2019 it was cheaper online than it was on embarkation day. I can’t remember how much exactly but it was enough that it caught my husband’s attention.

I like to do outdoor activities, so the second one with 14 hours in Geiranger would be preferable to me. Which cruise is that?

This actual itinerary is on the NCL Prima in 2023 that also includes Iceland.

Just before the pandemic, we took my husbands parents to Alaska on the Oosterdam. Now they want to take us on their favorite line NCL. Although they loved HAL so much they’ve booked two more cruises too☺️

  4. Hi CC friends.  I am looking at two Norway cruises that have similar stops but different times in port.  Having never been to Norway, I am leaning on you all for advice.  Here's what I have:

    Alesund 11am to 10pm

Geiranger 6 am to 5 pm

Bergan 8 am to 5 pm

    OR

Alesund 7 am to 5 pm

Geiranger 8 am to 10 pm

Bergan 7 am to 4 pm

There a bit of difference between the two but is it enough that one is preferable to another?

Thanks for any help or guidance.

    Andi

  5. Even though this is not HAL related, I found it interesting as it shows how anxious people are to get back out there.

Hopefully the link works, but if not, here’s a brief excerpt:

What Happened: On March 3, the company opened its bookings for 127 itineraries, according to a report by Cruise Hive. The itineraries include cruises to Africa, Antarctica, Asia, the Caribbean, South America, the South Pacific and Australia and New Zealand. The top-selling itinerary was a 35-day cruise around Australia over Christmas and New Year's.

Newspaper accounts today indicate Pima County (Tucson, AZ) is receiving half the doses this that it received two weeks ago so they are curtailing appointments for the first does and "hoping" there is enough left for those set to receive the second dose. This dire notification when the State announced a Mega 24 hour clinic at the University of AZ to open within two weeks.

High expectations and low  number of  doses allocated. At the same time statistics were released showing age groups, ethnicity, etc.  receiving the doses. In these accounts, Tucson was praised for a high vaccination rate but our positivity rate is still 12.5%

Is it any wonder it is hard to believe what we are told.

My mom is having the same problem in Tucson. She is 65 and works as a school nurse normally. But since she hasn’t been able to get the vaccine she won’t go back to work for the days where there are in person classes. Too dangerous for her. Since she’s not technically working she doesn’t qualify as a medical worker but she does qualify for age. Just no availability.

It doesn't seem to be posted on the website yet.  This is very similar or the same as the one that was scheduled a few years ago but was cancelled when the Prinsendam was sold and the ship was moved elsewhere to cover the Prinsendam itineraries.

This looks like an awesome itinerary. I don’t have the vacation time to make it happen though so I hope to see something similar including Greenland but a little shorter.

Did you book this yourself? Do you have a TA? This is wrong on so many levels. On Chris Elliot's website, he has emails for executive contacts for HAL.

I absolutely plan on sending an email to the office of the president. We’ll see what happens.

  9. I just posted this on another thread:

I have also had 2 cruises cancelled by Holland America. The way they handled the FCC was ridiculous.

I had a $600 deposit on a Rotterdam cruise that was cancelled due to selling the ship. I opted for the 100% match in FCC.

I put that deposit on a Volendam cruise that was cancelled. The offer of 100% was the same. I called this morning to find out how to transfer this to another cruise.

I was transferred from reservations to a resolution specialist because what the reservation agent said made no sense.

Basically, the “deposit” I had on the Volendam is considered as entirely FCC and I was entitled to no further compensation for the cancellation. They do not consider my original $600 deposit that I made for the Rotterdam cruise in the equation. What they are saying is that because I opted for 100% FCC at that point that I no longer have any “cash” on deposit and therefore do not qualify for anything further. The only was to get anything additional is if I had paid extra in cash.

I then asked if I cancelled it entirely would I get my original $600 back. She said yes. I then asked again, if it’s considered as FCC and not cash how could they do a refund. The conversation went really downhill at this point and she said she’d just cancel my cruise and refund me my $600 because she was done.

It was a really unpleasant conversation.

  11. Good morning all! Thank you Rich for The Daily and thank you Roy for the care and celebration lists.

Today has brought the rain. My area is expecting up to 3 inches over the next two days. So, it’ll be a bit soggy and humid but at least we can breathe again. 😊

Saw this funny comic the other day and thought others might enjoy!
