  1. I wear a suit and tie everyday for work. The last thing I want to wear is the same on my vacation. On formal nights I wear a dress shirt and tie with slacks. You will see some people really dressed up and others not. Don't worry. After dinner I usually change to be more comfortable. Hope this helps. We are getting on Harmony the day you guys are getting off. Enjoy your vacation.

  2. Thank you so much for the two for one Star class review. Looking forward to following along!

Noticed in fine print on the schedule that the genie put together that tapas and wine are included as Star class. It doesn’t explicitly state a dollar amount though. Assumption is that there is a max $$$ per glass that is included? Can you please confirm? Thanks again!

From my experience on two Star Class cruises the allowed amounts go by the deluxe beverage package, however we have gone over the allowed amount by $5.00 for a glass of wine and when the bill comes the waiter will say "because you are Star Class we will not charge you the difference". I'm sure if its way over the amount they will charge you. Hope this helps.;)

  3. Thanks to both of you for the pictures of the seapass cards. We are looking forward to our next Star Class cruise this coming November. This will be our 3rd one and unfortunately wont book anything less. We are spoiled for sure. I find it hard looking at other cruise lines because of the wonderful service Star Class gets. I even looked at The Haven on NCL and from what I see it doesn't compare, however I could be wrong because I have not been in The Haven yet.

  4. It seems like it has been a long time since there was a new Amex offer. It is possible that I used it as soon as it appeared last time, so it just seems like a long time to me. Does anyone know when the last offer was, and what the customary amount of time is between offers?

Haven't seen any for RCCL in a long time, however Got 4 for CCL in the last year, about every 3 months. Three of them were for 100.00 off each when spending 500.00 or more and the last one was for 7,500 bonus points when spending 350.00.

  5. You should not have a problem. Last year with our Genie we were the first ones off the ship and made it to our 0900 flight without any problem. We were at the gate area by 0800 and that's even getting off the ship at 0715. However, one word of caution. On our last cruise there was a storm at the port with really high winds. We did not get to dock till 0645 which is kind of late from what im used to. I'm used to arriving back at the FLL port by 0500 or 0530. If we would of not docked by the time we did we would of probably missed our flight. This year we are booking our flight for around 1100 or 1200.

  6. ;)YAY!

OK so back to day 1. We had already told Marla the restaurants we would like to try and some of the activities and she had printed off a schedule for us to go through and this could be changed at any point.

There were plenty of beers and soft drinks in the fridge and she was trying to get gluten free beer which she did a couple of days. We didn't drink a lot of alcohol in the room so requested a bottle of red and rose. Plus a kettle! There is a Nespresso coffee maker but we really like a cup of tea first thing.

Now this is where we sort of learnt what the genie is for... Marla had said 'anything you need, anything at all you must call me' and she gave us her number. We had previously been communicating via email and had been sent the loop but we didn't use this all week; we carried on with emails and direct calls.

So, when on the first night we wanted a cup of tea I dialled room service - but the phones were a nightmare not connecting. Eventually I used one of the bedroom phones and got straight through to the manager who had come earlier to the suite to introduce himself and within 10 minutes the tea arrived. Great. The next morning when we rang for tea again it took over half an hour. So when we caught up with Marla later on day 2 she was 'nooooo you don't use room service you use me' which we found really strange to get used to. But to be fair I wouldn't have called her late at night or early morning anyway. So the kettle came and made life a bit easier ;)

Another thing we learnt was that the star class cards had changed a bit, and at the beginning not all the staff recognised what it was. The kids had gone to Johnny Rockets for milkshakes and had to sign for them with a charge despite them explaining. It wasn't a problem for us as we knew it would get sorted and we had the same at a couple of bars to start but again Marla soon got this sorted.

So just in case you missed it.... the ship waiting for us

and this is what the card looks like

Did they change the color of the card? The picture did not come through.

  7. We are thinking of booking an Alaska cruise next May on Ovation of the Seas in a Grand Loft. Which one is better for viewing? I know the side ones have a couple of extra small balconies on the side, however the aft facing balcony has a large part of the ship that sticks out several feet from the side and blocks a good viewing portion on the side. I see that the other Grand Lofts in the center of the ship are bigger. Should we choose a middle one or a side Grand Loft? Any help or opinions would be appreciated.

All the best and safe cruising. :D

  8. Excellent information myraid

    We're in 8730 in 11 days! Yahoo!

We've already had an email conversation with Susan and she's been so accommodating.

I'm not normally a fan of the specialty restaurants; I have an aversion to paying for food on an all-inclusive cruise. With the Star Class though, we'll be sampling them all. Some in the restaurants and some ordered to the room.

My adult sons, I'm sure, will be taking (reasonable) advantage of the FlowRider perk.

    Thanks again for the info.

You will love Susan as your Genie. She is the best. Please tell her that Brandon and JJ say hello. She will remember us.

  9. We just got off the Allure on Nov 13th and had Susan as our Genie. She was awesome. The best was the boarding and disembarking. We were on the ship and in our suite within 10 to 15 mins with our bags. When we arrived at our suite there was lots of goodies to eat and drink. Many other amenities as well. You can not go wrong getting a Star Class suite.

  10. As experienced cruisers, we know not to book early am flights on disembarkation day. However, due to an involuntary airline schedule change and other circumstances, we have no choice but to book a 7:50A flight out of FLL. Rebooking our cruise, flying out of MIA, taking a later flight or overnighting are not options at this point. We will also be packing light and traveling with only carry-on bags.

What else should one do or consider on disembarkation day in order to make the beeline?

Night Before: Pack Standard Sized Carry-On Bags

    5:30A - Mobile Check-In via phone

    6:00A - Line up for Self-Disembark

    6:30A - Disembark

    6:40A - Global Entry/Passport Control

6:45A - Taxi from Port Everglades to FLL Airport

7:00A - Check in Bags up until 7:05A cut off point (Otherwise, self-carry bags onto aircraft)

    7:05A - Proceed to Gate

    7:20A - Boarding

    7:40A - Doors close

    7:50A - Take off

Working for an airline I know how schedule changes are a pain and I hate that they happen. I really feel for the customers. I'm not sure what airline you are flying or when you are cruising. Have you asked the airline for a refund and maybe you could rebook onto another airline that would more fit your schedule. (Depends on price) The airline should refund your tickets without penalty since they are not fulfilling their end of the contract for the original times you bought your tickets for. They may also invol your tickets to another airline. Each airline has there own set of rules. However please read the contract of carriage for your airline to see what they do in this type of situation.

  11. I see it no different with the suite guest jumping the line at the MDR or off the ship...However I don't have a problem with it. Its a perk that RCL has given them and they pay extra for it.

I will be cruising in a Star class suite in Nov this year for the first time. I may use the feature once or twice because my ass will only be up for two seconds and will give everyone a laugh. I wouldn't take advantage of it though.

  12. I'm going to be on the Jewel returning to Houston/Bayport on the customary Saturday morning. I'm wondering if an 11am flight departure from IAH (George Bush Intercontinental) is feasible. Looking for anyone who may have done this in the recent past and if so, what recommendations you may have, including transfer options from the port to the airport (e.g., cab, pre-arranged transport, etc.) Thanks.

I work for a airline at George Bush and a 11:00 flight would be kind of pushing it. Most of the passengers I see start showing up at 10:00. However they are arriving in on the transfer bus that the cruise ship provides. If you can get off the ship early and have a reliable car company pick you up it could be done. However if you are delayed any by the ship or car company you could miss your flight.

  13. I have room 12330 booked in Nov 2015 and from what I hear I may switch but will wait till I see some pictures of that room and balcony.

I think RCCL jumped the gun on these suites and they were not quite ready to be used yet since they did not have the proper fixtures in them. When you go on vacation you shouldn’t have to worry about asking for these things especially when you are paying a premium for them.

It’s kind of like booking a First Class seat on an international flight and only getting some of the amenities or fixtures while others are getting better and may have paid the same amount for the same kind of seat.

At my company if I had put a product out that was not ready I would have been in a lot of trouble. Also I would be compensating my customers for the problem.

    Just my two cents. :)
