Yes. We are in the same spot. I called to cancel and they stopped their true "peace of mind" sailings on Oct 30, 2021. Now, it is their old policy, cancel up to 61 days prior to sailing without penalty, but anything after that, you forfeit 100% except the extras and port taxes/fees. I was livid, and had to apologize to the agent multiple times because i know it is not his fault. Only people that reside outside of the US and their countries have put a policy in place that prevent them from traveling are allowed to cancel now.

The best thing you can do is test 2-3 days before your cruise, and if its negative, and then if you get denied boarding for testing positive at embarking, you will receive a FCC. NCL seems to have the most strict policy for cancellation. I'm not a fan. Sacrificing short term money to ensure you will have lifelong cruisers is what they should be doing, but its about the bottom line. Yes, its really expensive for the cruise line to allow cancellations like this... but now those of us in the bucket that are concerned about flights, testing positive, needing to quarantine if we test positive and cant get home, etc. have been boxed into a corner, or lose out on thousands of dollars, because of a wave of a variant that NO ONE could have predicted in October of this year.

Its extremely disheartening. On top of that, we have to worry about even being able to make it to the pier now, because hundreds of flights are being cancelled per day due to the airlines having to cancel because of this variant.

Good luck. Our sailing is Jan 5. We're "going" but we are every bit prepared that it might not be happening.

Thank you for the detailed reply, it really helped! I agree it is rather unfortunate... I don't understand why they would want to force people to cruise during this time, like...you have my money, I'm not asking for it back, I'd just prefer to use it for a time when and my family will not have to be stressed out.

Seems like their should be some kind of regulatory intervention with the danger of the situation - such as making it mandatory for the cruise lines to offer forgiveness for cancellation, considering the pending dangers. But, alas, we will do everything we can to have a good time! Fingers crossed.

  2. Hello,

We were so excited for our cruise...we sail January 2nd. But, with all that is going on, including all of the crazy posts we are reading on this forum, we feel the best thing to do is cancel.

I cannot find anything regarding an update on NCL's cancellation policy, even though their seems to be an outbreak event going on. So, as far as I can tell, we are going to be forced to go on this cruise, or we will have to forfeit our money? That's our only option (as of 9:36 AM CST on 12/27) correct?

  3. Thank you so much for all the pictures and videos! I’m loving what I see! I actually really like the new chandelier (I guess I’m in the minority 😂)!

The one one thing I thought was kind of strange is the carpet in the Haven’s Horizon Lounge. It’s a pretty blue but it needs some rugs or something, it looks a bit plain.

Can’t wait to embark on my journey in December!

***EDIT: One more thing I’ve really

come to appreciate, the hull art! The computer imaging photos didn’t give it any justice. When seeing the Encore on the open sea, the colors look amazing!

Thank you, a spa tour makes a lot of sense. I appreciate the information.

    Hey there,

Just FYI, we are on the Encore the first week of December and we’ve already booked the Thermal Spa week pass.

I called and booked it over the phone because I couldn’t find it on the website. We’re in the Haven so not sure if it matters. We did the same on the Escape, but we were also in the Haven (I have no idea If this affects the ability to prebook or if it was just a coincidence).

  5. One must consider who they are travelling with and that was a good fit for me with NCL. But I might give a lux line a try in the future if that changes.

Also, you know there are some people that save up because they DO want to feel special, and experience something more fancy then the every day cruise. Who are we to judge that? C’est la vie! The Haven is around because there is a market for it, if you don’t want it, how about you don’t buy it?

  6. So what? If someone wants to budget for a Haven cruise every 3 years or 3 weeks whose business is it to question or insult them?

It reads like you are intentionally mocking a specific poster.

I also found it a bit insulting but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t meant that way.

My family can also afford the Haven, and we choose to stay there because it’s quiet, relaxing and the Haven restaurant and bar are amazing! I also like the fact that it’s cut off from the rest of the ship but IF I want to go out and party with the masses like I’m 21 again, I have that option!

  7. Jplovestocruise, thank you for asking the question about the Haven experience. Also, Vyhaneck, thank you for your comments regarding the Haven on the Epic.

My wife and I sail the Epic in the DOS in November 2018. The last time we sailed NCL was 2007. Long before the Haven model and a lot of the new concepts being offered in cruising. We are so looking forward to the 11 day cruise on the Epic and in the Haven..

Any other tips or thoughts that come to mind please jump in with more info and that goes for anyone who cares to share.

Again, thank you jplovestocruise for asking the question! enjoy your next cruise!

    Enjoy your cruise KBK!!!

  8. The Epic Haven is the best Haven on NCL. It accommodates less Haven guests AND it's bigger, by a lot. It has POSH which is the upper sundeck but about 5 times bigger (or more) than the Haven sundeck on the Escape with it's own very large bar. It has lovely cushy chairs, lots of umbrella's for shade, its lovely........and less crowded than the Escape on the Haven. There is no chair hogging on the Epic Haven sundeck because there is more than enough space for everyone.

There are 3 bars total in the Epic Haven. The courtyard bar, the POSH sundeck bar and the Epic club bar. Again with less Haven passengers than the Escape and 3 bars, compared to 1 on the Escape.

The Escape Haven has the enclosed courtyard made of this enormous structure of glass and metal framing. It's great in theory but it's really, really loud. Any noise in the courtyard, like well behaved kids playing in the pool, the noise bounces all over the glass and metal framework and it's really loud and echo'y. The courtyard on the Epic is wide open, no retractable roof but also no loud structure.

I like the Escape ship it's self better than the Epic. I love the outdoor promenade and the outdoor dining. I loved Food Republic such amazing food! But the shows on the Escape suck. They are the worst shows in the entire fleet. Not up to NCL show quality at all I think.....I've been around a long, long time!

But if it's the Haven you love and if you spend the majority of your time in the Haven, you will not be disappointed in the Epic. It's a lot better Haven product than on the Escape.

    Thank you so much!

  9. Good morning!

I recently sailed with my family on the Norwegian Escape, out of Miami, in the Haven. It was amazing!

We are planning to book another cruise in the Haven in 2019. We have experienced the Haven on the Jade, a suite on the Dawn and as mentioned above, the Escape. This time we are hoping to leave out of New Orleans on the Getaway or try the Epic. Will we be disappointed after experiencing the amenities on the Escape with these two older ships? For example we always get the Spa package, does the Epic have a view of the ocean in the spa? How is the food, service? How about the casino (we love to gamble!)

Any input would be awesome! The Escape Haven was so amazing I don’t want my parents to be disappointed on our next trip.

    Thank you!

  10. Hey there!

Does anyone know if there is a planned refurb for the Getaway before it repositions to New Orleans in 2019? I love cruising out of New Orleans but I would prefer to go on the Getaway after a refurb. I know the Breakway is getting one and I’m sure the Getaway could use one too!

    Thanks in advance!

  11. Hi there!

I'm a big gambler and I've had some really good times at the casinos aboard NCL's ships!

Some questions though... can I put a credit on my account before getting on board that I can use towards slots? I'm not a huge fan of bringing a large amount of cash with me if don't have to! If I can indeed do this, what's the process?

Also, is there any way to see how many points you have on your CAS account and what you qualify for in regards to freeplay, dinner comps or anything of the nature?

    Thanks in advance!
