@jsn55...Doesn't that just make too much sense? I always book through Princess, and even the agents don't seem to know for sure where the smoking area will be!

Skynight, thank you! I appreciate that! We've been on several Princess ships, but when we plan one we haven't been on before, we look here to find the "place to go" and Always follow the rules of the ship! 🙂

You are 100% correct.
This thread was started in 2012 for discussion on the then implementation of the Princess smoking policy.
Now it is still used to discuss and advise others on where the smoking areas are on a particular ship.
It is not a "bashing" session.
Hence the removal of non conforming posts.
Thx!

I just want to say something on this topic. "Back in the day" the topic came up because Princess was terminating the option of smoking in staterooms, and on balconies. My feeling was that this topic came up for smokers to "complain" but also, to find where they Can smoke on the ships. Now, it seems most who post here are just here to Hate the smokers. I don't believe that was the original intent of this thread.

Thx, @Colo Cruiser, maybe this isn't the one for us...still considering 🙂

@Colo Cruiser Since you mentioned it; How is the Island? Looking at a cruise for the summer. Smoking areas OK? (I believe this is one of the "small" ships, no?)

I remember when we went on the Grand to Alaska 2(?) yrs. ago, the Coral was also in port (maybe Juneau), and their smoking "section" was outside and uncovered (unlike ours on the Grand). Probably not much help?. Also, for others, when we were on the Regal (repo to the Caribbean), we had the best smoking area; again, when we were in Alaska (on the Grand) we saw the Royal (the sister to the Regal), and they DID NOT have that really nice smoking area!

@Ken & Nancy...are you being funny? Can you take your dog, but you hate smokers? What was your point of that post?
SO, so sorry, I must have replied to the wrong thread!!! Doesn't even look like my words, but, it's my name, IDK...

SKY Princess -- Anyone know if the outdoor smoking area is going to be like Regal and Royal? I specifically am interested in the aft smoking area on a higher deck. Regal and Royal has a great one on Deck 17 aft.

Just on the Crown earlier this month. Smoking areas were: Gatsby's Cigar Lounge (next to the Casino on Deck 6), Deck 16 next to the Tradewinds bar (tables with ashtrays - some are in a covered area), Deck 7 aft on the starboard side (box on the wall) and at some of the slot machines in the casino.
Enjoy your T/A!!
Also, there is a little-known "spot" on an upper deck starboard (I think 15), slightly aft. It's outside, and was always windy, but great for that last smoke of the nite!

.hi--we leave in a couple of days on the Crown .It's a 14 day T/A
I haven't read anything current re: smoking on this ship. I'm hoping to hear from a couple (or more!) about the Crown.
We also got word the Crown is just coming out of dry-dock--they've delayed our departure time from 4PM to 6PM.
We had sooo much fun on the Crown in Dec.! The smoking is like Deck 15 Fwd. Tradewinds, I think. It's awesome. Enjoy!!

Yes, we went to Cuba last August and it was very hot. A bottle with water was a must.
Please, please! Tell me more about your trip to Cuba, and what to expect/do/know!! Thx for any info!!!
-
You can get a glass of water at the buffet or a cup of water or soda water at the bars, but bottled water is not included. You have to buy bottled water to take ashore. We bought a water package of 6 large bottles that were delivered to our cabin.

Thx@herdingdogmom! I always bring my own water bottle for flying (fill after TSA), so I will just fill my own, since Norwegian doesn't provide such things (I'm too cheap to pay for water:p), and I would not think of drinking the water in Cuba (is that where you're going?), and I'm guessing it'll be like 100F degrees when we go in August.
-
Yes, drinks are included - no % fee charge and no need to show our card at the bar. It was great. The daily service charge is higher on these cruises though - starting at $18.99 if I recall correctly.
Thx!! I feel better about That, but not the gratuity thing. One thing I didn't see on the (drink) "menu" was bottled water (?). We usually sail Princess, and--with the drink package--we can get "free" water, which we can then take ashore. ???
I have NO Clue what we just got ourselves into--Norwegian is not our usual "go to" and going to Cuba looks tougher than I thought!!! TG I have a few months to figure this out!?! All comments, advice is appreciated and helpful!!

Cuba cruises are advertised as all inclusive with free drinks. Then they offer promotions of free wifi, credit on shore excursions and meals and friends and family sail free. Then there is a disclaimer that the promotions are not available on the sail-away rates. But are the free drinks still available on the sail-away rates?
Wow, they better be, I just booked one today! I asked repeatedly about that and got "yes" each time, but I do know to what you are referring.

first time considering a princess cruise and looking at an aft room' date=' Riviera deck near the Terrace pool. Ive discovered the hard way ( cruising NCL Escape) that quiet adult pool area is my jam, lol! Is this pool heated? Also does it have defined hours? or can we take a late night dip. Thank you![/quote']
Hey Grumpy! We, too, have been on the Escape, as well as many Princess cruises . We are leaving on our next Princess in Dec., and (coincidentally) staying on Riveria. Our experience w/Princess is an absolute NO to your question, in fact, they often seem to net it off at night. Maybe it has to do with the weather, IDK. In the Caribbean, they seem to Not be heated; we went to Alaska recently, and it Was heated (still too cold for my blood)

We sailed on the Regal twice, for a total of over five weeks. Last time was over a year ago. My wife loves to play the slots, I don't gamble but go down with her often and also walk through the casino from time to time. She had remarked that she thought the casino on the ship was smoke free, which was first time she had ever experienced no stench of stale smoke in one. I agreed but it wasn't quite the case, at some slots smoking was allowed but we never saw anybody do that. No smoking at gaming tables anytime and on some days they advertised absolutely no smoking in the casino.
The Regal has the BEST outdoor smoking area, Aft., All their ships have smoking in casinos except on "formal" nights

I hope this thread is not "cruise-line specific", but we are booked on a cruise, which includes Curacao, in December...Looking at the offerings by our ship, there is one--the "Hato Caves" and I cannot find any comments here about that...Anyone???
-
On the Grand aft, what deck is the smoking area please?
omg YOU HAVE IT MADE!!! Go to deck 15 (I think) just one over the buffet, it's on the starboard side. We just went on the Grand, it was a really nice smoking area as well as good for whale watching!!
-
I sure hope so @Andwe...I just booked on the Crown also, and picked an aft cabin for the same reason (are you going 12/1? If so, don't cancel! We'll figure it out together:)

Not sure who's bubble you are trying to burst but as a shareholder I know who owns what. I feel you have taken the quote out of contest. It was simply a reason for P&O cruisers to carry over their loyalty status to Princess.

Sorry...just read many comments about Princess/P&O, and felt many might not know they are the same company. Not directed to any One comment. Yes, if you are a shareholder, you get OB credit...best dividend ever!
-
It is clearly because of the close link between Princess and P&O in the past. Up until 2002 Princess was owned by P&O.
I actually registered about 7 years ago on the Princess website and was given Elite status then.

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but Carnival Corp. (CCL) owns Princess and P&O, as well as many others (incl. Cunard, Holland, Costa, etc.)

We are thinking (seriously) about sailing on the Crown in late fall (Dec.?) and I am wondering what their smoking areas are now?
The Crown was our first Princess back in 2007, and we could smoke in our Room(!) and on our balcony!
-
Just got back from our 9th Princess...not sure how many cruises since smoking was banned on balcony...we had a great time with our smoking counterparts, as always...the upper-deck (outdoor) smoking area is where we meet our best friends, and I'm glad they are putting the area where we don't have to deal with the non-smokers (and their hand flapping, poo-pooing). Would Never risk smoking on the balcony (though I miss it).
Discuss Implementation of Smoking Policy

Well said, except that sometimes they DO change the smoking areas. But good point.
