  1. My 6 year old daughter has celiac disease and from what I've read, the MDR is the safest place for her. Some questions for RCCL dietary needs experts:

    1. We are currently signed up for My Time Dining because the earlier seating is full (our kids are 4 and 6 and eating at 8:00 wouldn't work well). From everything I read it seems that waiters get to know people with special food needs and present them with the next day's menu to order. If we do MTD I assume we'll have different waiters each time, will this be a problem?

    2. I'm worried about ports and finding safe food for her there, we've talked about coming back to the ship to eat lunch. The buffet isn't an option because of cross-contamination but it seems that the WJ is the only restaurant open for lunch on port days. Is it at all possible to get her a safe meal on the ship on port days?

    3. Similarly, if we decide one day to have lunch at the buffet "on the fly" because we are at the pool, want to eat quickly, etc. is it possible to get the safe meal she ordered the night before from the MDR and bring it to the buffet to eat with us?

We're doing the Grandeur of the Seas in August, if that matters. I do plan on contacting the special dietary needs people at RCCL but want to do my research on here first. Thanks so much for reading all of this :)

  2. Just in case you weren't aware, if you go into your reservation and click to "modify" her info, there is a little drop down for dietary needs. Mine isn't currently working, but if you can select it for your daughter it may help them help you.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I know our TA put a note in there but I was planning on contacting RC as the cruise got closer to touch base about all of this.

  3. Following this :)Doing Grandeur in August with my daughter (6) who has celiac.

I've read that it's best to do the MDR to avoid cross-contamination and that you can order the day before to make sure they have her meals ready.

I'm wondering if, on the fly, we decide we want a quick lunch at Windjammer can we stop by the MDR to pick up the meal they prepared for her already and bring it with us for her to eat while we're eating buffet food?

  4. Here is my review of Kid facilities on Jewel of the Seas last month which should give some additional ideas plus the is a link to same for Harmony.

When I get my scanner working (& learn how to upload on wordpress) will add the kids cruise compass for the week.

That would be fantastic, thank you!!!

And thanks to everyone else for the quick and helpful replies!

  5. I've looked at a million reviews and threads and haven't found the exact answers I'm looking for, so bear with me if these have been asked before. We are cruising the Grandeur of the Seas in August with a 6 and 4 year old.

    1. I've seen guidance to go to the kid's club upon embarkation to "sign up" the kids to use the club for the entirety of the cruise. Does this mean the club fills up? Should I rush to get there right away on day 1?

    2. Are there books and board games in public areas for us to play/read as a family when we're hanging around or is this something I should pack?

    3. I've looked at daily activity sheets here and there for different ships over the past years and can't get a feel for if the evening shows will ever be appropriate or enjoyable for kids this age?

    4. Will the kids club provide a schedule each day for my kids to pick and choose activities that they want to participate in?

Thanks in advance for your help!

  6. Hi there, I just booked Grandeur of the Seas for August. I saw that the ship is scheduled for a refurbishment this month and that details of the refurbishment seem scarce.

The general "ship revilatilzation" section of the Royal Caribbean site says: That means more five-star restaurants. More nightlife hot spots. More amazing entertainers and spaces refreshed to brand new. More 3D movies and adorable nurseries. More of your favorite DreamWorks characters from Madagascar, Shrek® and Kung Fu Panda® appearing on more ships.

Does this mean that there is a possibility the Grandeur will have the Dreamworks characters after the refurb? I have a 4 and 6 year old so I'm crossing my fingers. :D

The vague revitalization site I'm speaking of: http://www.royalcaribbean.com/contentSitelet.do?pagename=revitalizations

    Thanks for your help!
