  1. Lot's of "reasons" not to share. Ethics, morals, honesty, come to mind.

    Agreed.

In our case, I got my wife the soda package, I got the coffee package for me, and we'll just pay a la carte for whatever alcohol we drink (because it sure as heck won't be $50 worth each, per day). I don't drink soda, so no worries there for me. If my wife wants a coffee, I'll just pay a la carte for it, as well.

I thought both the soda package and the coffee package were reasonably priced.

  2. We've got a balcony on deck 8, directly beneath the Island Bar. I'll report back on the experience.

(Note: I upgraded from a deck 3 OV, that was almost right beneath the Centrum. I was a bit worried about noise there, but am less concerned now, even though we're beneath a bar?)

  3. Welcome to Cruise Critic.

And so what does your "waiter in the know" think about the list of bookings available all through the middle of next year and into

2019 from new home port Galveston for Enchantment?? :o

No need to be snarky. I don't think he meant she's being sold immediately after dry dock but probably within the next couple of years.

So, that's exactly how I interpreted the scuttlebutt, as well: that EotS would be sold immediately after the drydock. (It really doesn't make sense to mention the drydock, if drydock is a statutory requirement, would happen anyway, and the sale wouldn't take place for years after.)

Personally, I think the scuttlebutt is just that: unsubstantiated rumor.

Also, I think EotS looks lovely. I'll get a first-hand look, in just under 2 weeks. :D

  4. Just got off Enchantment yesterday. Crew are amazing! Ship is so worn and dirty. Was told by our waiter that after her dry dock she will be sold. He was sad that RC will not be putting out any new smaller ships. We sailed Harmony in Feb and it's truly amazing but doesn't compare to smaller ships.

I know nothing about the buying, selling, and depreciation of cruise ships, but absorbing the overhead of a drydock seems awfully pointless if the ship is intended to be sold immediately after.

  5. Total revenue increased to $2.20 billion from $2.11 billion, topping the FactSet consensus of $2.19 billion, as better-than-expected passenger ticket revenue offset a miss in onboard and other revenue.

Removing those water bottles from the staterooms really hit the bottom line! :')

  6. Don't forget Chelsea as another area to look for accommodations. I stayed at the Residence Inn Chelsea for a year while working on a project. It was well-located, and provided easy access to the commuter train (walking) and the blue line (airport via free hotel shuttle).

A few other things to keep in mind (that I wouldn't have thought of before spending time in Boston):

    1. Draw bridges are... fun. At least, if you're close enough, you can watch some barges sailing in. Slowly.

    2. Getting off the Boston Logan peninsula: most of the tunnels are (cashless) toll. I want to say that I used route 1A?

    3. If you use the commuter trains, know that the North Terminal and the South Terminal in Boston do not connect via rail.

  7. Thanks for all who posted here! I just checked my credit card statement a little closer from my Enchantment sailing in a GS earlier this month and sure enough - there's an additional $12.47 charge. Ugh. I guess I'll be calling Royal today. Thanks again for the heads up!

I was waiting to see if this issue showed up on the Enchantment.

Personally, I consider my time, and avoidance of the hassles of phone holds, standing in line, and arguing about refunds, to be worth more than $12. So, it looks like the best course of action will simply be to drink the provided water, and let them have their $12.

This isn't giving me a warm-fuzzy about what will be our first RCCL cruise, though.

  8. I have no cruise-packing experience (yet), but I do have business travel-packing experience. I'm assuming that there are some crossover principles. For instance, with sufficient underwear and t-shirts, 3 polo shirts and 2 pairs of pants = 6 outfits. I don't plan on taking more than 2-3 polos, 2 pairs of slacks, one shirt for formal night (with tie and jacket, that can be worn with one of the 2 pairs of slacks), 2-3 pairs of shorts, and 2 pairs of swim trunks.

If not for my pirate-night costume plans, I'm pretty sure I could pack in my usual 22in carryon for a 7-night cruise, with day-before/day-after clothes in my weekend bag/personal item.
