has anyone compared regular fares to "special fares"
free air is nice but last time we did FREE it was not very good connections or our choice of airline even with the Air Plus the up charges were very high!

not a long walk to the ferries but buses and trams were close too. We did a great tour through Viator called Viking ( no relationship) hike and bike. We took the ferries to three islands for brief walks and explanation of the islands. Stopped for a lunch we brought and could go for a swim if we wanted. About 20 people and 2 great guides I think it was about 48$/pp and the ferry ticket was good for 24 hours.! the ferry will easily take you to the maritime, kontiki and folk museums .

If you are currently on the Octantis we saw you docked early this afternoon and then about 5 o'clock we waved as you sailed on Lake St. Clair heading north. Welcome to our little lake!
Have fun Hope you all enjoyed Detroit today on Memorial Day!

We have done the Antarctica cruise and fell in love with Expedition ships but their costs are usually so high. This cruise seems to be a bit more inline. We have done the SA onthe Jupiter between Santiago to Buenos Aires, we really enjoyed that too. I am intriqued to be able to get closer to some of the glaciers and poke into the smaller inlets. From trying to look at the itinerary I can not tell how often the "toys" can be deployed and used as the xcursions for the day. Can you help with that questions....fearful to just ask Viking rep as they often don't have the right information available to them. Thanks,

I wonder why they dropped Tasmani and Milford Sound both of which I would like to see?
UWDawg can you comment on your African ports? We stopped at the Verde Islands on the Transatlantic from Buenos Aires.

thank you so very much for your research!!! We really would like to do this itinerary BUT are reluctant to pay Viking prices for a bus tour. Your research has confirmed that perhaps the Elbe is not the way to experience this beautiful part of Germany.

we were in Sofitel in Recoletta ( good hotel , nice location near the cemetery ) and then the Intercontinental ( ok hotel BAD location). I think those at the HiIlton had it best!

Clay, I did not know anything about santiago calatrava's buildings and bridges. A Google search and I am awed....now I want to go find as many as we can....maybe a driving tour throughout the USA? Pretty sure we saw "woman's bridge" in Buenos Aires from the bus.

That is what we did. Our friends took the Omaha Beach and I think I our day was a better use of time. I really wanted to see the tapestry and the Juno Beach part was very good and we did the grave wreath too.

I think during the cruise. When you get the mid cruise request fill it out...In my experience I know that at least it is read.

I would probably do it now then it won't get messy about which OBC gets refunded and which does not. I HAD to cancel because it was early in the cruise and not within the refund window once we will board.

WE canceled an optional excursion prior to the departure of our next cruise. I was told a credit would be issued to the credit card I had used. Watched the cc for a couple of weeks and no refund so I called and I was told it would show up within 21 business days of the cancellation. Never takes that long to charge me but OK. Last week an envelope appeared in the mail from Viking. It was a check for the cost of the excursion all the note said was "cc -refund by check". no notation for WHAT it covered. Strange but at least I received the refund!

not all excursions are offered on all itineraries. Doesn't make sense that dinner would be that early to get everyone back onboard at 6. Maybe an "afternoon" with Gaudi.
I do know that the church's stained glass is absolutely spectacular with late afternoon sun pouring through the windows. Definitely find a tour that includes the INSIDE too.

Getting excited!

Has anyone kept track from the last couple of years of how often the Viking ships can not complete the itinerary?
-
we are very excited to do the evening Ceremony of the Keys. I was hoping Viking would take us by River but I guess not! Maybe we will do the River cruise on our own after the Greenwich Walking tour. Our documents have a 6:30 departure noted. I am assuming by now they would know what the tide charts will show.
Will be sail by the Thames River Barrier? does anyone remember about how long after departure we might see it....don't want to be at dinner and not paying attention or in Living room bar with no windows!

except for the year probably Covid when they had to go around South America and needed warmer clothes and no one was prepared

Wait until you get home after 4 glorious months having to think of nothing but how to experience our beautiful world and what to eat and drink!

What was their topics on that cruise Deec?
I only remember the 60’s Beatles photographer and the English woman who sailed the Atlantic with her sonMike did many of the history talks. He also did the tour on the ship of the Bayeaux tapestry in the staircases. Wendy did not present.

I just saw that more of my favorite Viking folks have joined you on the SKY...Mike and Wendy Seigel. Make sure to attend Mike's lectures...they were always well prepared, delivered and enjoyed! His wife, Wendy, is a delight too. If anyone has the opportunity tell them Dee and Pat Clark from the Jupiter in 2022 send our best!

what an absolutely wonderful extension and your descriptions brought it alive!!!
Hoping our Gin, Gardens and Grand Homes extension is as wonderful.

Tenders will be below you no problems with blocking you view. might be a bit noisy when the launch or bring back onboard. that is not a very busy corridor other than passengers going to their rooms or if folks are watching a performance in the atrium from there so I don't think you should have noise from the public restroom.

I did not know MAX ( if he the same Max) was onboard...he was on the Jupiter with us in 2022 when we went from Santiago, Chile. to Buenos Aires to Barcelona to Bergen to Amsterdam ( loved those Covid cancellation and 25%)...he and his team worked miracles as things opened and closed as the world was reopening! You were lucky to have him trying to navigate the mess you all faced!
I need help and advice

we have many nights aboard Viking Oceans and Rivers even an Expedition...never been offered an upgrade. But we use a Travel Advisor..perhaps they only offer to those who book directly?
