  1. not a long walk to the ferries but buses and trams were close too.  We did a great tour through Viator called Viking ( no relationship) hike and bike.  We took the ferries to three islands for brief walks and explanation of the islands.  Stopped for a lunch we brought and could go for a swim if we wanted.  About 20 people and 2 great guides I think it was about 48$/pp and the ferry ticket was good for 24 hours.!   the ferry will easily take you to the maritime, kontiki and folk museums .

  2. If you are currently on the Octantis we saw you docked early this afternoon and then about 5 o'clock we waved as you sailed on Lake St. Clair heading north.  Welcome to our little lake!

Have fun Hope you all enjoyed Detroit today on Memorial Day!

We have done the Antarctica cruise and fell in love with Expedition ships but their costs are usually so high.  This cruise seems to be a bit more inline.  We have done the SA onthe Jupiter between Santiago to Buenos Aires,  we really enjoyed that too.  I am intriqued to be able to get closer to some of the glaciers and poke into the smaller inlets.  From trying to look at the itinerary I can not tell how often the "toys" can be deployed and used as the xcursions for the day.  Can you help with that questions....fearful to just ask Viking rep as they often don't have the right information available to them.  Thanks,

  4. That is what we did.  Our friends took the Omaha Beach and I think I our day was a better use of time.  I really wanted to see the tapestry and the Juno Beach part was very good and we did the grave wreath too.

  5. WE canceled an optional excursion prior to the departure of our next cruise.  I was told a credit would be issued to the credit card I had used.  Watched the cc for a couple of weeks and no refund so I called and  I was told it would show up within 21 business days of the cancellation.  Never takes that long to charge me but OK.  Last week an envelope appeared in the mail from Viking.  It was a check for the cost of the excursion all the note said was "cc -refund by check".  no notation for WHAT it covered.  Strange but at least I received the refund!

not all excursions are offered on all itineraries.  Doesn't make sense that dinner would be that early to get everyone back onboard at 6.  Maybe an "afternoon" with Gaudi.

I do know that the church's stained glass is absolutely spectacular with late afternoon sun pouring through the windows.  Definitely find a  tour that includes the INSIDE too.

  7. we are very excited to do the evening Ceremony of the Keys.  I was hoping Viking would take us by River but I guess not!  Maybe we will do the River cruise on our own after the Greenwich Walking tour.  Our documents have a 6:30 departure noted. I am assuming by now they would know what the tide charts will show.

Will be sail by the Thames River Barrier?  does anyone remember about how long after departure we might see it....don't want to be at dinner and not paying attention or in Living room bar with no windows!

  8. Tenders will be below you no problems with blocking you view.   might be a bit noisy when the launch or bring back onboard.  that is not a very busy corridor other than passengers going to their rooms or if folks are watching a performance in the atrium from there so I don't think you should  have noise from the public restroom.
