Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. So are the other classes also included in the free classes if you have a package, or are they still extra? Thanks in advance.
  2. Yes - this happened to us a couple of times and Guest Services resolved it. The app chat feature is handy for this.
  3. Good to see the MAIB have opened an investigation, confirming it was a loss of propulsion as mentioned by chengkp75 above. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/marine-accident-investigation-branch-current-investigations/marine-accident-investigation-branch-current-investigations
  4. It could be argued that you're speculating by blindly trusting Saga without the full facts and suggesting that the picture with the suitcases was in some way not a true representation. Seems like we're all armchair experts 🤦‍♂️. I actually think that most people just want honest answers, and perhaps those involved are due some sympathy? I'm glad to see that most posters have extended that courtesy.
  5. What facts have not been reported correctly? Were you on board because I'd be happy to hear a fuller justification on why the decision was made to attempt the crossing? Most of the original reporting was a re-hash of the Saga statement and letter that was distributed which was very much the Saga side of events which as many have pointed out leaves a couple of glaring questions that they may or may not have reasonable answers to - part of me hopes that they do. Now passenger accounts are coming out which lay bare the situation on board. My Mum was on board and has cruised for many years on Saga, experienced storms and is someone who doesn't scare easily. She has now lost confidence in them completely, and is gutted because she truly loved going with them. Full transparency is required from them.
  6. This screenshot was from Sunday when the worst of the wind had passed but the swell was still significant. I wish I'd taken a screenshot from Saturday because that showed an altogether different story - I was tracking it out of concern for my Mum and couldn't believe that they were pushing on. The swell chart was at the top of the scale on Windy.com, as it had been forecast to be. As I said, more clarification needed as to why it wasn't possible to turn back south when they first knew there was no other options north on Friday.
  7. It is a difficult decision to make, of course, but the priority is the safety of the passengers, crew and ship. It was known that La Coruna was shut on Friday morning when the ship was still off Lisbon. Was there really no option to turn back south, hugely inconvenient, but safer? I hope the reason for not doing this will be explained by the CEO, as he has done for the Lisbon and Porto options. If it's true that the strikes in Portugal were not until today, he needs to further clarify this as well though. He needs to be fully transparent about all the options and reasons they were discarded, otherwise there will always be a suspicion that this was at least partially a business decision.
  8. My Mum is on the ship and has endured a truly traumatic couple of days, but thankfully she is in better shape than many by the sound of things. She has cruised extensively for many years around the world and experienced plenty of bad weather, but this was a whole new level. Lots of questions about the decision making that ended up with the ship being in the Bay at the height of the storm, carrying many elderly passengers with limited mobility. Attempting that passage all but guaranteed that they would have passenger injuries, not to mention the crew who all still have to continue to provide what service they can (and by all accounts they have been outstanding). Whatever goodwill gesture is offered, I hope it's not future cruise credit...
  9. The sofa bed in a mini-suite is effectively a single bed that doesn't take up any more cabin space when it's made up. Some of them have a pullman bed, but not all - you'll be fine if it doesn't. The other benefit is the heavy duty curtain between the main bed and the sofa bed which also give you the option of having your lights on when the wee one is asleep.
  10. One thing to be aware of - there can be a large overhang from the deck above on some decks 15 and 16 mini-suites (and other cabins), so do some research if this would bother you. We had a mid-forward deck 14 and it was great. We have a deck 15 forward just aft of the bridge wings booked for next year which I believe doesn't have a big overhang from deck 16 if that helps.
  11. We got an email from a UK agency for a Princess Past Passenger offer on selected 2024 sailings. We've been watching a cruise in June so asked for a re-quote out of interest not expecting much, but it came in 10% cheaper so we booked. I never bothered putting my past passenger number in when getting quotes on websites before, but when I try it now many show the same 10% discount. Just curious if there's always a discount of some kind and I didn't realise, and if , is it always this big?
  12. I just had a similar conversation with a Celebrity rep. We've got packaged flights from a flights offer with Easyjet Manchester to Barcelona on the same day the cruise departs, and Jet2 back from Rome. We checked to see if we could move the outbound flight a couple days earlier to mitigate the chance of a missed departure. Even though they are different airlines Celebrity wouldn't allow us to cancel the outbound or change it. She checked and said we could no-show for the outbound to keep the inbound, and book a new outbound for ourselves. She just asked that if we did plan on no-showing that we let them know. I personally wouldn't book a deal like this again because I prefer to fly earlier, but doing our own flights at the time was ridiculously expensive.
