  1. We were able to use our fire sticks on Allure of the Seas without any real issue (aside from needing to figure out how to change the input) and they handle the public-website-authentication in basically the same manor as the Roku. You should be good to go, but maybe bring a fire stick as an insurance policy! :halo:

How did you end up changing the input?

  2. Hello! I could use some advice about travel insurance. My fiancé and I are booked on Harmony of the Seas in November 2018. I went ahead and paid for Royal's travel insurance when we booked because I was under the impression that I could cancel that later if needed. We booked July of last year and now I'm seeing that some insurance policies require reservation within 30 days of booking?

I guess what I want to know is do you use the ships insurance or do you reserve outside insurance? If you don't use the ships insurance, what do you use? Is it too late for us to book?

My fiancé is a high functioning quadriplegic. He doesn't really have any excessive needs other than his wheelchair and his catheter. I'm a nurse and pretty confident that I can take care of any minor issues that arise. We're just looking for peace of mind in case he (or myself) needs emergency medical care or evacuation.

  3. The seats provided by the ship didn't work for my mother, so we invested in a travel shower commode chair, which worked both for the roll-in shower and over the toilet. The one we bought (on eBay) was a Chameleon (Italian made) but I know a lot of people who have ones made by Nuprodx or Go-Anywhere. No charge for checking these on the airlines, easy to use, and worth the purchase cost when used for a lot of travel vs. renting.

There's no charge to checking a shower commode chair? I didn't know that. That's interesting. We've been trying to figure out what we were going to do without a rolling shower chair.

  4. That Super Shuttle looks great. I think that's what we'll be using. I was concerned about the trip from the port to the airport. What a relief!

For those that have used Yellow Cab in Fort Lauderdale, do you have to reserve the accessible van for the trip in advance or can you just call and request one? We're planning on staying in Fort Lauderdale for a couple of days before the cruise and would be great if we had a way to get around if needed.

  5. Spa services on all cruise lines is an outsourced contracted department and not direct employees of the cruiseline . Most Spas on cruise lines are operated by Steiner which is a European owned company. The Estheticians hired by Steiner must hold CIDESCO or equivalent certification, be qualified to use galvanic and faradic current, and also be qualified massage therapists. "Qualified" in reference to massage is not the same as being "licensed" . In addition to having a CIDESCO or equivalent certification the Estheticians are required to have a minium of 150 hours of massage experience preferrably being Swedish Massage prior to being hired by Steiner.

Though not a medical professional I'm very familiar with a Baclofen Pump. If it were me, prior to booking the message, I'd speak to Spa Services and state my concerns regarding the Baclofen pump... but than that's what I'd do. Also Spa service personal are prohibiting from lifting your freind onto the massage table. He must be able to transfer on his own or have someone such as yourself to assist.

Thanks, this is very informative. We will speak to Spa Services before we book anything then. I usually assist him with transfers for his massages anyway so that will not be a problem. I wasn't really worried about the baclofen pump, to be honest. I was more worried they'll consider his quadriplegia a chronic back condition and tell him he can't get a massage because of that. But now I can see how his baclofen pump might be an issue. It's sad to me that he might not be offered the same luxuries as others because of it but I understand policies.

  6. My SO loves to get massages and that's one thing he's really looking forward to on our RCCL honeymoon cruise. I was looking at our cruise planner and noticed that under their massages, they have the following restrictions listed:

    • Open cuts or abrasions, recent operations (within 3 months), water retention, infectious skin diseases, severe sunburn, chronic or inflamed back conditions, severe varicose veins.

He's a quadriplegic and has a baclofen pump in his back. Is this going to prohibit him from getting a massage? The "chronic back conditions" concerns me. It seems kind of silly to me. They are licensed massage therapist right? My SO gets monthly massages at home, no problem. He'll be really upset if this means he can't get a massage on the ship. Has anybody had any experiences with this?
