Ciro al Borgo is a nice walk (about 1.8 km/1.1 miles) from the cruise port, along the waterfront.   The address is Via Luculliana, 29/30 - Borgo Marinari a, 80132 Napoli Campania.  Web site here:  ..:: Ristorante Ciro Borgo Marinari ::..

Mattozzi is a little closer to the port (about 1.3 km/eight-tenths of a mile) at Piazza Carità, 2.

thanks again for this, we ate at Mattozzi today, first stop on the first Sun Princess sailing, it was heavenly.

  2. We just had to pay a 30 euro deposit, the trip costs 150 altogether and we pay the balance when we get to the ship. They said they will take credit cards.

I used to work for a vacation company a while back and they used to say you should always trip drivers and tour guides if they were good because they don’t make a lot of money

  3. Normally we would come in the day before but this is just how the flights worked out. The plane lands at 8 AM and the ship doesn't leave till 6 PM so I think we should be OK. We also book our flights through the cruise line so they will be aware if things are running late or anything.

  4. We decided to go with Tiber Limo 🙂

Curious, what would be considered a good tip for the driver? Would they normally take USD or will we need euros? We were planning to mostly use cards and just find an ATM to take out a little bit of Euros if we need them

LOL.  We have had some of the best pizza in Naples, and it was not near as good as the average pizza in NYC!  Go figure.  One New Yorker told me that all the top pizza makers moved to the USA. 🙂

    Hank

I will probably like American pizza better too. But I love all pizza and Naples is where pizza was born, so having pizza in Naples is a bucket list thing for me 🙂

My favorite style is actually super thick crust Sicilan pizza, which will probably be way different than the pizza in Sicily... which I also plan to test on this cruise, along with some arancini too

  6. Thanks, I think we might have to do a pizza crawl and try all of them!

Do they take credit cards or do you need to have cash? Last time I was in Europe was greece in 2006 and it was pretty much just cash everywhere

Mattozzi looks good, but I kind of worry they will be slammed with people if they're close to the port. Wouldn't mind if we had to take a taxi out to the burbs somewhere.

  7. We'll be in Naples soon for the first time, can anyone recommend a good pizza place to eat at? Preferably one with decent table seating rather than a street vendor where they fold it up and you wander around gnawing on crust. We don't mind taking a taxi if it's a little farther away from the port area.

  8. Thanks 🙂 I wasn't sure how far it was. We're going to look into booking a car. We didn't want to do the ship transfer bus because it wouldn't be leaving till much later. Too bad we're going to have our luggage with us, would have been nice to be able to explore Rome a teeny bit, but maybe next time 🙂

Are there any cafes or anything to do in Civitavecchia, or is it just an industrial kind of area for ships?

Our flight lands around 7 am but I don't think we're able to board the ship until around noon, and it sets sail I think at 6 pm

  9. We e eaten at Alfredo’s and also Gigis many times even back when it was included for all and never had a problem getting a table except for one day when there was a canceled port due to bad weather and everyone decided to get pizza for lunch. Other than that it’s always been fine, we like the pizza there a lot. We are getting the plus package so that means we will only get to go theee twice on our next cruise 😞

  10. Does anyone know where we can get a list of which restaurants on the ship will be totally free, or listed as casual dining and specialty dining?

We have the princess plus package for our cruise and thought that would be fine, but I just read you only get 2 casual dining meals per cruise. We don't go near the buffet, but we do like Alfredo's pizza a lot and I was just watching a video saying Alfredos is considered casual now. We also like getting burgers on the top deck, and that's also casual too. So I'm wondering if we need to upgrade to the premier plan, but don't know if it's worth an extra $200 for the cruise.

Anyway I was googling and having a hard time finding an actual list of which restaurant counts as which now. They kind of just list all of the restaurants all on 1 page, unless I'm missing something.

  11. So, we did a New England & Canada cruise on the Enchanted Princess back in October, and our medallions had a white background with a yucky barf yellow/green colored princess logo in the middle. Now we just got the medallions for our next cruise in a couple weeks to Hawaii on the Royal, and our medallions have the same yellow/green barf color, but it's for the background and the logo is white. Do the colors on the medallions mean anything, or are they just random if you don't pay extra to add your own picture?

  12. On our last cruise (back in 2017) the casino boss lady was trying to give us a free bottle of wine, but we already had the drink package, so my wife convinced them to give us free speciality dining one night. We went to the steakhouse and it was awesome, and the people at the steakhouse gave us a free bottle of wine too. So I guess that was a double bonus 🙂 We're supposed to get the "Ultimate VIP Treatment" on our next cruise along with our mini-suite, anyone know what the ultimate VIP thing is? Or is that what they call chocolate covered strawberries? 🙂

  13. OK thanks, I was hoping they had a list so we could see what kinds of goodies they offer. Maybe if someone from Princess happens to be reading this, please tell someone to put a list together! Really I just wanted to be able to compare the programs from a few different cruise lines for fun to see what everyone else is offering.

We are doing 2 free Princess casino cruises this year, one was a balcony that we upgraded to a mini suite and the other was a free mini suite, both came with free slot credit too. We booked them last year though and it seems like the offers were better then I guess since not as many people were cruising yet. We were going to wait until we do these 2 cruises and more gambling to see if the offers get any better.

  14. Earlier in the day we called and only waited about 5 minutes, but we needed to call back and now I've been on hold for 1 hour and 4 minutes so far. We just got our FCC yesterday so I guess a lot of other people are getting it too and trying to use it up. They made it that you have to call to use your credit instead of letting you add it online the easy way...

  15. OK, not all suites, but the really expensive ones.. on the photos on the Celebrity website there's pictures of a piano in the living room area.. why? I mean, do people just suddenly feel like playing the piano? Or can you call down to the front desk and ask for a piano man to come up to the room and sing for you? Just seems like a waste of space to me, why not have a nice super comfy recliner or 2 in it's place?

  16. Thanks for all of the ideas so far, keep em coming!

We are big foodies but also not too adventurous, so we won't be touching anything involving innards, guts or brains 🙂 rye ice cream sounds interesting though. is rye bread a big deal over there? I saw some other restaurants talking about it. I think we would be most interested in some good local meats or fish, I don't do shellfish but my fiance does. She also raves about escargot, but I won't touch it no matter how much garlic butter it's swimming in.

  17. thanks, i always figured it's just best to book a flight as soon as it's available (11 months out?). We did that for our upcoming Celebrity cruise to Ireland & Iceland next june. We got main cabin economy so we could pick our own seats, flying from Philadelphia nonstop to Dublin for around $1100 pp... Well the fare was $675 or so, then the taxes they hit you with were over $400. Not sure if that's a good price or not. We did biz class for our last cruise where we flew to Seattle but it was way too expensive to do for this flight.

  18. What's cruel about it?

We were hoping it was the real pig island, don't know if we want to go to some fake one they made to cash in. I was wondering about this one, because on google maps the real island looks far away. I did find some private excursions leaving from Nassau, but it's an 8+ hour excursion and we were afraid if we did that it would be risky trying to get back to the ship on time. So is this like a pig petting zoo that rcl built themselves?

We did find this one on Norwegian

    https://www.ncl.com/shore-excursions/FPO_04/Swim-with-the-Pigs ?destination=Bahamas+%26+Florida+Cruises&sort=searchWeight&sortOrder=asc&perPage=12

But we like RCL and Celebrity
