Few, if any, cruise lines come close to Oceania loyalty perks. For example:

10 cruise credits (based on # nights - not just cruises): free gratuities, SBC et al.

15 cruise credits: more SBC, free gratuities and custom air fee waivers (on top of the already included air fare)

20 cruise credits: same perks as before PLUS free 14 day cruise, more SBC et al.

Isn't Oceania also at like 1500-2000 for an inside cabin?

Also, it appears that you earn credits by cruise, except that the more nights there are the more credits earned per cruise https://www.cruisecritic.com/articles.cfm?ID=2483? Thus it'll take you at least 20K to make it to Gold, and then to make use of it it'll still be 3-4000 per trip? Compared to other lines like Holland or Carnival where it might cost similar to make it to a status that at least starts giving free stuff or discounts, but using it costs less per trip?

  2. Just wondering if anyone has thoughts about which line has the best loyalty program? Based on factors like terms of perks given, how easy/hard it is to move up to a tier where the perks actually give you something substantial (as opposed to a photo of a HAL ship or some Princess magazine), and anything else?

  3. Hi there,

Anyone know how easy it is to catch a cab from the Mendenhall Glacier visitor center to the port area? I'd presume that it's pretty easy from port to glacier, just wondering whether there's an area that definitely has a bunch of cabs at the glacier, or whether I'd need to call one ahead of time.

    Thanks.

  4. Hi there,

I'm planning to rent a car in Skagway and drive up the Klondike Highway to Carcross on the 7th. Forecast is showing chance of light snow in Fraser and Bennett. Anyone know if this is an issue that requires me to potentially need to request a bigger car or snow chains or some other type of safety gear? Or do I just need to drive a little more carefully than usual?

On a side note, anyone know whether any other ships arrive there on the 7th?

    Thanks.

  5. Piggybacking on to this one, how easy is it to 1. catch a cab from the cruise port area to the glacier and 2. from the glacier to the back to the cruise port area? Is it necessary to reserve a cab ahead of time?

    Thanks.

Depending which Richmond hotel you're staying in, you might also consider the CDS 'ship to airport' service - they have offices at YVR and $40 gets up to 4 bags forwarded. If you were e.g. SkyTraining to the airport then calling an airport hotel shuttle, this would add almost no extra effort on your part. It's most useful for folks who don't want to return to the pier; with your planned sites the pier wouldn't be a hassle to get back to (even if you stayed on the North Shore until after the free shuttles stop running, Transit gets you to within half a kilometre or less of the pier). If you were planning to take a cab to your hotel (anywhere from $35-50 depending exactly which one), using CDS to ship your bags would make SkyTrain travel luggage-free so even easier (and at <$3pp any evening, spending cab fare on the shipping could actually save you money).

    Thanks Martincath,

If I'm understanding you correctly, do you mean that:

    1. Have CDS send bags to YVR

    2. Go do my touring

    3. Take the SkyTrain to YVR

    4. Pick up bags, take hotel shuttle to hotel

    ?

We're staying at the Four Points that's by Landsdowne, so it definitely has a shuttle.

  7. Hi guys, just wondering if anyone has had recent experience storing luggage at Canada Place?  I'm sailing on Nieuw Amsterdam doing the round trip from Vancouver, planning to drop luggage at CP somewhere upon disembarkation and then head up to Grouse Mountain and Capilano Suspension Bridge, then retrieve luggage and back to hotel in Richmond.

I know there's CDS, are they still only to 4:30PM? Anyone use them recently and can give any insight as to whether this is still the case? Are there hotels that I can pay them money to take my luggage until I come back later that day?

    Thanks.

  8. Texan here, normal pants/jeans plus a set of thermal base layers should be fine.

Some people have been suggesting cargo pants, 5.11 makes some nice ones that are durable and also water resistant, if a bit pricier than most off-the-rack cargo pants.

The Wyldcat is a bit more normal looking if you don't want bulky pockets everywhere, my wife has them. The Mesa and Defender jean is also similar, but I haven't bought any of those for her yet.

Jolie and Abby tights both have pockets as well.

  9. Which side of the ship has the best viewing?? Thanks!

On the Pride of America earlier this month, it was starboard side. There was an announcement, sailed by at about 9:45 pm and the lights on the ship were turned off and had a great narration of history. There was plenty of time to get to a good spot.

Do note that you cannot count on them to make the announcement, as they did not announce it on my cruise last week while the Daily said that it was an "approximate" time and thus we were actually waiting for it before going outside (after all, we pulled out of port kind of late, and all sorts of things could affect our actual arrival), only to find that we missed it by about 20 minutes.

Something I rather wished I had known beforehand.
