Just back a few days ago from Japan - a week in Tokyo plus a 10 day Cunard QE cruise. Had a good time (first time Japan - 5th time QE) - Japan is certainly a challenging hard work destination. It could be less so at some added cost. ABSOLUTELY convinced now that Balcony cabins are a waste of money. If anybody has any specific questions regarding a possible future cruise to Japan please ask. Personally I would probably not do another cruise around Japan for a number of reasons - mostly including port locations, and necessity to do ship tours.  We managed to see the Cherry blossoms.

Sir you did not do your home work, on the Queen Elizabeth are Japanese Hosts who speak English all you have to do is to ask them to write out where you want to go.Just completed 19 nights and when we arrived in Nagasaki the ship lets you off beside the train and bus and as we had been before we knew how to navigate. First time PRE  COVID had everything written in Japanese where we wanted to go to, as for AKITA one of the best days ever bus drops you off in the center and thanks to our Japanese hosts everything written in Japanese for one of the best times, beautiful park for CB, Japanese tea ceremony, Akita dogs and the food stalls on a beautiful sunny day. As far as a balcony goes I will not start an argument with you and by the way you did not mention how great a rate you got with your currency.

We upgraded on the return segment of transatlantic to Southampton. Though this was Queen Mary 2. 3 of us and we paid 1500gbp to upgrade from sheltered to princess grill which was worth it. We went to the pursers desk all easy

Pursers Desk is the way to go as  there is a chain of command pursers desk first for anything and if you you are not satisfied they will listen and direct you to the next step. This is why we love Cunard they listen and act. The no  upgrade signs are there for the boarding of a new cruise, could you imagine how many people would be bothering the Pursers Desk on one of their busiest times, but do believe they forget to remove the signs once the ship is underway.

    Hi one and all!

I have sailed on QM2 over 40 times since 2006.  I have never found the Verandah Restaurant (Formerly Todd English) especially interesting.  IMHO is a boring lifeless place even if the food is very good.  It could be so much more, like the original Verandah Grill on the Queen Mary.

I have been watching YouTube videos of the EMPIRE SUPPER CLUB on the new Icon of the Seas and the SILVER NOTE on Silversea cruise line ships.  Both are specialty dining rooms offering subtle live music and a beautiful vibe: HIGH DEMAND GO  TO PLACES because they are full of life, good food and drink.  So, I ask myself, why can't Cunard Line do this on the Queen Mary 2?  Why can't Verandah also be a high demand go to place full of life instead of the boring place it is now.  By the way, it's been my experience that the Verandah is rarely fully booked.  No wonder!  It has the personality of an ash tray.  Cunard,  you can do better!

When we were at the Beach Club a couple weeks ago, only two fools had booked those $4,000 cabanas.  The rest sat empty.

I guess Royal figures it is easier to find two willing to pay $4,000 than it is to find ten willing to pay $800.

" Fools " to you but maybe a special occasion for the folks involved, we all travel for different reasons!

Is the exc worth it or should we go to the grave yard and museums on our own ? It's 84.00 pp from royal no idea what a taxi cost back and forth if any one has done it any help.

Last time in Halifax we were disappointed with the museum but that was seven years ago, bus was very easy leaves you off at the cemetery and across the street coming back. The museum and the cemetery was what we wanted to see and the bus gave us a feel for  the city, times like this we like to take our time and savor the history.

If you have traveled on Princess and HAL like my wife and I you should like Cunard. We now have found the line we like especially if you have a problem, not that we have had many but they are unto  it pronto. The ambiance, theaters, wrap around promenade deck with deck chairs in good weather, self service laundry, officers who are willing to give you their time, guest speakers, crew, shows and very interesting fellow passengers, I could go on and on, and don't forget photos of the movie stars on the Queen Mary that  take us back to the classic movies of yesterday. Enjoy!

Most important for us is the Library, last time on HAL Library also  was great!

On reflection it could mean they think Grills passengers are cleaner than the rest, as they are the only ones who might notice.

Been Inside, Ocean View, Balcony and  Princess  Grills. Never had a problem and of course treat the cabin people with respect including nights off when it comes to turn down.

I am ashamed of my country today. It’s truly horrendous. I shall leave the worst for my review in the coming days but I am surprised that the ship’s crew didn’t discreetly speak to some of the offending Australians!

What did you do? send a note to the Hotel Manager or mention it to the Maitre d' if this took place in the dining room.  Being proactive is much better than being reactive!

If you are sailing in Australia, a tee shirt, board shorts and rubber flip flops will suffice on gala night. Full review forthcoming! 😱

If sailing out of anywhere else, do dress up as the rest of the world keeps it classy in my experience.

    Fake news!   Austcruiser 84.

This is the blue suit I was refering too. My husband wore it at our daughters wedding, I expect it will be deemed to bright.Screenshot_20240113_223245_Gallery.thumb.jpg.3265f0695b663ee359d833a92d61d692.jpg

Please stop worrying, and think about a wonderful cruise you and your  husband are going to have on Cunard.

Could anyone advise if a blue or dark grey suit is acceptable on formal night? My husband is happy to wear a suit but only owns suits in these colours and doesn't really want to buy a black one unless absolutely necessary.

Your husband will be perfectly dressed, not all men are in tuxedos on formal night.

Hi  we will be stopping at Samoa during our cruise and was wondering if anyone has been there and what was on offer  for excursions or things to do by ourselves? I would like to go to a beach  and maybe snorkling. Thanx

Been there by ship also hotel stay. Robert Louis Stephenson the writer stayed for a short time and also is buried, where he he lived is a museum well worth a visit, better still a climb up to his grave but you have to be pretty fit, I believe it took six Samoan men to carry his coffin to the grave site. Aggie Grey's mentioned in " Tales of the South Pacific "  Hotel for lunch then a walk over to Parliament House. As we live near the ocean we are not really interested in the beach, enjoy! This is the capital Apia, not American Samoa which is Pango  Pango., enjoy!

@Down-Unders Did I see that you're on the March 10, 2024 Sydney to Tokyo voyage?  Me too!  You may want to look at the Roll Call for that cruise since it's pretty active; some people are arranging non-ship tours, etc.  (If you haven't used Roll Calls before, go back to the CC Board main page, select Roll Call/Cunard then pick Queen Elizabeth and March; the specific threads will appear.  Note that the roll call is for the full 28 day cruise, but plenty of the people posting are only on for the first leg.

Yes this is  our second time Sydney to Japan, last trip into Yokohama this year into a brand new terminal in Tokyo which has been closed for COVID. Arriving into Tokyo is a great idea especially for folks who are disembarking and flying home within in a few days. Before it was Yokohama to Tokyo and if you were flying out off Haneda or Narita airports on the day it could be challenging.

Say hello to Hartford for me.

I am planning to move to Spain next year and looking to do so via a cruise. I have heard of other people doing the same.

I will be taking a lot of luggage with me and have heard that some cruise lines will allow you to take extra luggage that can be stored as cargo rather than being delivered to your cabin.

Has anyone any experiance with this and which cruise lines will provide this service?

Certainly you will be able to do this,  sorry I cannot advise what cruise line  as  you are going to Spain. You would maybe have to look at a repositioning with say Holland America,  sailed  Tampa to Barcelona with HAL, the ship was heading to Europe for the summer season, it was the Ryndam no longer in service, HAL still do repositioning cruises so could be a good idea to try them. Good Luck!

Reminds me of the time a gentleman (perhaps the wrong term) in first class on a flight was using the edge of the door to his suite to remove dead skin from his bare feet. Toenails were long and yellowed too. I needed a double G&T after that.

Frankly, I’m not sure that the crew would do anything even if you reported it. Just off the QE, where one evening a person was permitted to walk through a restaurant and dine barefoot. Their attire suggested this was a casual dining choice on their part as opposed to a medical reason. I never imagined I’d ever see that on any vessel, let alone a Cunard ship!

What did you do about it ?
