  1. I often wonder why someone feels the need to voice their opinion in this manner. Do you think you have to be rude just to get your point across? I assure you, you don't. I'm sure there are plenty of things you do in your life that aren't very necessary, but still offer you peace of mind. And actually, disinfectant wipes and sprays do truly kills germs, so it's reality, not an illusion.

  2. Can't be true unless they are going to ban all aerosols, which they don't. Nothing like that is on the prohibited list on the website.

The rep referred me to this:

    https://help.carnival.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4090/~/carnival-corporation-prohibited-items

One bullet point from the last says, "[c]ompressed gas tanks, bottles, cylinders including dive tanks, propane tanks and aerosol cans."

If I remember correctly, a gas is any air-like substance that has no fixed shape due to its ability to expand indefinitely.

Perhaps, they are actually laxed on that one thing, though. It doesn't bother me. I like my alternative.

  3. more details on what this is please. What ship? from which port? Is it a charter?

It is on the Carnival Victory from Miami. The event is hosted by a travel agency but not a full charter.

  4. My response from another thread:

I am an African American woman who is a big believer in natural hair. I have not straightened my hair or used direct heat for years. I started a business around the subject and use those products in my hair. I do not swim in chlorinated pools. Do not get me wrong-- I do have the urge, but then I think of the damage it will do to my hair, and I snap back to reality! Before swimming in salt water, I soak my hair in a conditioner and water solution. Afterwards, I just do a quick water rinse and seal with my cream or butter.

If I am going to be in the sun for more than ten minutes, I moisturize with just water, seal with my butter (melted), and cover with a light-color scarf or hat. I do not wear my hair out (in curls) very much and definitely not to swim. I two-strand twist my hair without any added hair. It does take some hours because my hair is long now (waist length, stretched), but the style lasts me over a month. I even wash my twisted hair to lessen tangling!

For trips, depending on the activity, I can put the twists in one or two French braids, a bun, loose twists, or curly. A bun or curly or a bun with curly twists shaping the face can work for formal settings.

  5. I would love to either bring my own try or use the one from room service, BUT if I had an event to attend immediately after dining, I would not want to rush back to my cabin to put my tray away or carry the tray awkwardly to the event. Someone should hurry to invent a tray large and sturdy enough for a couple of plates and cup but foldable to store in a medium tote bag . . .

  6. I chose my arrival time (time to arrival at the terminal, not to board the ship) yesterday with 101 days remaining until embarkation. All times were available for me-- from 10:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Though I chose the earliest time, my FTTF will allow me to board before others choosing the same time slot but after Diamond and Platinum.

  7. I'm glad I found this thread and would love to resurrect it because I know other women could benefit from the answers. If any previous poster has an update, please share!

  8. I try to keep up with news from the CDC for various reasons but especially when planning a trip. The CDC conducts at least two inspections of most cruise ships every year. If violations are found, the ship does have time to correct the issue and submit corrective paperwork to raise its inspection score. Inspections are graded on a 100-point scale, and cover eight areas-- medical facilities, potable water systems, swimming pools and whirlpool spas, galleys and dining rooms, child activity centers, hotel accommodations, ventilation systems, and common areas of the ship. Scores of 85 and below are failing scores. Here are the latest inspection scores. Keep in mind, just because a ship shows a high score, there may have been violations that were corrected to raise the score; you will have to click on the ship for the list of violations. I hope this helps someone! https://wwwn.cdc.gov/InspectionQueryTool/InspectionGreenSheetRpt.aspx

  9. My understanding is they are weighed because Carnival does not want any bag to exceed 50 pounds. If that limit is exceeded, there may be baggage delays. To avoid this, you could bring another bag to better distribute the weight. There is a suggestion of how many bags to bring but no rule.

  10. What I personally do is that I take the overly negative AS WELL as the overly positive reviews and weed them out. Both of these type of reviews are not a good indicator of what the experience will truly be like and will only set up unrealistic expectations. Also, when you read reviews, look for recurring things that people liked or disliked. Chances are that if many cruisers are mentioning one thing in particular, it's an accurate observation.

About the Victory in particular, I haven't personally sailed on her so I can't tell you about the ship, but I have sailed her route a few times. I think it's a great opportunity to taste what cruising is about but do understand that it's a shorter, budget minded cruise which tends to attract a different kind of clientele.

A few months ago, I recommended Victory to one of my good friends who wanted to take her first cruise. After listening to her likes and dislikes as well as budget considerations, I thought that the Victory would be a match made in heaven for her. Long story short, she went on the cruise and enjoyed it, but said that passengers left a lot to be desired and their behavior took away from her enjoyment (she even texted me photos of people fighting during the muster drill [emoji85]). She said that unsavory behavior kept happening throughout the cruise, but that overall, she had an enjoyable time, met some great people, and would cruise again, just not on this type of itinerary.

Wow, your response covered everything! The most complaints I've read have been about the clientele and their behavior. Perhaps, the riffraff will be few and far between. Thank you for easing my anxiety . . . at least until a week before embarkation! [emoji4]

  11. Victory was our first cruise, 4 day out of poet Canaveral. We liked the ship a lot. She is older, but still enjoyed all it had. It was tricky to find the dining room the first nite. The cords counter and deli were some of our favorites. D's loved the milkshakes.

I'll have to try the milkshakes! Thank you!

  12. My wife and I spent our honeymoon on Victory in the Southern Caribbean. It may be nostalgia, but we loved her! Since then, we have growon to love the bigger ships, Breeze is our favorite, but we always get excited to see Victory sharing a port. Victory was the only ship on which we booked a balcony stateroom, and loved it. You are going to have a great time! All ships, cruises, ports, passengers have their positives and their negatives, just enjoy the trip :)

  13. We have sailed on her twice. Once when she was brand spanking new and the second time, she was fourteen years old. Both times we enjoyed her very much.

    Thank you for your input!

  14. Hello, everyone! I will be attending my first cruise on Victory in a few months. As of now, I have a Deck 6 balcony. I've spent the past couple of months reading reviews and tips. I've received good tips but have read many bad reviews of Victory and its cruisers. Should I heed the reviews or take them with a grain of salt? Does anyone have any experience with this ship?

Yes, I've already heard "your cruise is what you make of it." TIA!
