  1. All you need do is look at one of the quarter reports that list pax numbers. Also that there have yet to be any 'flash deep discount' sales, and fares are going up n up.

Have you looked at them? I only ask as I don't personally want to dig into that, let alone understand them. lol

Haha, I agree. Every time I read a post from someone complaining about how things aren't what they used to be and they're going to stop cruising, I wish they would actually do that. If they did, the prices would be going way down instead of up. It's still a good value for the money though, and I haven't been priced out yet.

Haha, me too. If you don't like a product, don't buy. I will...w/ a deeper discount too.

  2.

    • earplugs
    • travel blow dryer
    • dominoes or cards so you don't have to try to find some for a few games on sea days
    • small supply of OTC meds
    • downy wrinkle releaser - works great when there are no irons. spray down your clothes when you hang them
    • travel size body wash poofs - so much nicer than a washcloth and weigh nothing so easy to pack
    • packing cubes so you can fit so much more in a smaller space and just take one bag each person

    Have a great trip!

  3. #1&2 make sense.

How do you explain people repeatedly going to the same destinations time after time? There's only so much one can see or do on a tiny island before one gets bored.

    1. Alcohol.

    2. I have gone to the same destination

    a. on a different ship years after my previous visit, making some aspects of the experience new again

    b. go with a different group of people. An island exp is going to be diff depending if you go with your mother vs grandmother vs infant daughter vs gal pal

    3. Go on different excursions

    4. stay on the ship and eat, sleep, and....

  4. If you're going to wear thicker flip flops, you may as well just wear a proper pair of shoes.

At the end of the day I guess it's up to the individual what they want to wear, even if it means breaking the rules .I just think it lowers the already diminishing standards, and makes people look like slobs who can't be bothered to dress appropriately.

Eh. I wear flip flops on casual nights, and dress similar to the clothing options in my previous post. If clothes from Abercrombie and Fitch makes me a slob, then I am a slob.

  5. Apart from making people look like slobs, they are not good for your feet, and can be dangerous.

Top 3 injuries caused by wearing flip-flops

Great for keeping your feet cool, flip flops can cause all sorts of personal injuries. Here are some of the most common injuries caused by wearing flip-flops.

    Injuries caused by wearing flip-flops

Flip flops can easily cause slips and trips. The most common slip and trip injuries caused by wearing flip-flops include ankle sprains and broken wrists.

    How flip-flops cause accidents

Loose fitting, open and generally quite slippery, flip-flops can cause slips, trips and falls or vehicle accidents by:

    • Getting caught on steps, loose flooring or pedals
    • Slipping off pedals
    • Slipping off your feet at the wrong moment

Many ankle sprains and broken ankles are caused by feet slipping sideways in flip-flops, causing the ankles to go over.

Overuse injuries caused by wearing flip-flops

Providing virtually no support for your feet, flip-flops can also cause potentially serious overuse injuries. One of the most commonly suffered overuse injury caused by flip-flops is plantar fasciitis, an inflammation of the ligament connecting the heel bone to the toes.

    The moral of the tale

In a nutshell, flip-flops are great for relaxing on the beach, but they should never be worn for prolonged periods, daily activities or on board a ship, especially in the main dining area.

    1. There are thicker flip flops designed to give support

    2. appealing to health concerns is futile....if it worked, people wouldn't be smoking, drinking, and gambling

    3. high heals cause more issues...some requiring orthopedic surgeons to operate. So the precedent of use of footwear that is suboptimal to shoes is firmly established

  6. Interesting, my initial thought about the intention behind the question was "How can you cruise so much? Doesn't it get boring?". I didn't realize it was a cost question.

As someone who doesn't get the hype about cruising, can you guys explain what draws you back time and time again. I'm very curious.

    1. price

    2. you can customize it to do w/e you want. I cruise with my family, and we are VERY different people. so we can all go and do our own stuff w/o dragging someone who doesn't wan to go along. But we do pair up a lot though as there are overlap in interests.

    3. destinations

    4. food (well not on CCL for me as the food is trash imo)

    5. drinking

  7. A poster on a different board on this website said that Celebrity is having trouble filling their cruise ships. I normally would dismiss these comments, but this poster allegedly works as a TA and says to have solid information. I won't name this poster. But I would like to get your thoughts on this manner.

    Thanks

  8. I am a TA and have been in over 7 ncl ships and sampled their food seen their rooms and even done a 2 day voyage (free-which is why it does not show in my list, same for free sailings on Carnival, Royal and HAL).

I also base my comments on our clients and their feedback. There is more.......

Can you explain why you think carnival is your go to? Specifics please

  9. Complain to the Captain...

    Complain to the Hotel Director...

Complain to the Guest Services Manager...

    Complain to the Loyalty Ambassador...

These suggestions are why I have basically stopped posting here. We are not talking about a bathroom leak flooding water into a cabin...

We ate not talking about undercooked food causing sickness...

We are not talking about lost luggage...

We are talking about hurt feelings when the OP showed up late for their scheduled appointment.

Who knows what really happened, but complain to the captain??? Seriously?

Some people love to argue. They have to pick a fight with someone. If so let them. Doesn't affect me. In fact, it might be so entertaining that I openly laugh b/c I cannot contain how ridiculous it is.

But in the end, it is futile. Nothing happens to the worker other than a slap on the wrist 40% w/ the other 59% being the worker being told by their supervisor to not sweat it cuz it was a crazy difficult customer.

I have seen workers punished, but those were extraordinary circumstances

  10. How do you view the NCL Brand?

How would you rate the food? Entertainment? Shows? Value? Service?

Do you see it as a low end, mid tier, or upper crust brand?

What are some particular reasons you choose NCL over its competitors? Is it your go to cruise line you check out first when booking a cruise?

Feel free to be honest and veer off topic. I will chime in after seeing some of your response so that I don't bias the responses.

For reference, I have sailed the most with NCL, but I have also been on RCCL and CCL. I will be going on X next year.

I think the brand isn't as well known as carnival or RCCL. I personally think that NCL brand that it is a very modern CL, starting with the whole freestyle cruising style that was initiated years ago. Their ships are relatively new with a lot of new technology with a very modern decorum.

I think that it is a mid tier CL. I would lump them in the same tier as RCCL, but not CCL. I wouldn't call it a luxury cruise line, but I would say that there are luxury experiences if you are willing to pay.

The food is good. There is a wide variety of average food that is included in the price. I am satisfied. The MDR is good. The steaks could be better w/o an upcharge. I would rather they shrink the variety and inc the quality of their food, but I understand that a wider variety caters to more people. I am not a fan of the buffet, but I do like the Indian food. That was a pleasant surprise. IDK how the specialty restaurants are.

The broadway type shows I think are better than RCCL and A LOT better than CCL's humor.

I think CCL has a lot more fun party atmosphere and their dance clubs makes NCL's club look rather pathetic. The exception is that I do like the glow party. Other than that, it is dismal quite honestly.

I feel that there are a lot of events that go on every day on the ship. I don't ever feel bored. I feel there is a wide variety of things to do that caters to a wide variety of people. I also feel that others can relax on the cruise in public areas.

I like the value that NCL offers. It strikes a happy balance for me where it is not as affordable as CCL, but the food and entertainment are at a high enough level to where it hits the sweet spot.

I think the service on NCL is worst than CCL and RCCL. The automatic service charge makes the people working on there seem very disinterested or standoffish at best and entitled at worst imo. I often tip extra in order change their attitude. Afterward, they are much more willing to help.

I cannot comment on how NCL is for kids. I have not stayed in the Haven. I cannot speak on the spa.

In conclusion, I like NCL. I will be going to a NCL cruise in the future when I have more vacation time. I really like the freestyle cruising. I like the freedom to come and go as I please. I like the freedom to eat in the MDR at any time w/o a set time. The general sense of flexibility that appeals to me over other CL.

Things to improve are customer service and quality of food.

  11. Hey,

I am a dude. I am thinking about buying a Keepall B in St. Thomas to save on sales tax.

I am thinking about buying the Waterproof monogram keepall B 55 (3100) vs the Monogram eclipse Keepall 55 Bandoulière (1760).

I personally like the monogram eclipse (black one) more b/c of how it looks. But do you think that there would be any advantages to buying the waterproof keepall? I plan to use this when cruising, but I don't have a yacht so I don't think I would get wet. But does anyone know if the waterproof one will last longer? It is almost 2x the price for the waterproof one, so there is a price gap.

Also I will be traveling with 3 other people, so I can combine their duty free spending and use it for me.

  12. It depends on the cause for the sneeze, and when in the first seating the sneeze occurs. I have an allergic reaction to garlic and sneeze my head off. That would not be contagious. Colds and other viruses can be contagious on hard surfaces for up to 6 hours. However they are contagious for 30 to 45 minutes on tissues, clothing, and table cloths. So if you sneezed during appetizers, the second seating would be safe. If you sneezed during dessert towards the end of the first seating, and the second seating people sat down early in their seating, you might be spreading germs. Of course they would have to rub the table cloth and then their face.

If someone sneezed on their flip flop, then used it to save a pool chair, and you moved immediately after seeing them walk off, then you might get sick.

What if they sneezed in my mouth?

  13. Maybe Carnival should put pictures of what they consider flip flops so we can all be clear and follow the rules:) Kidding of course. My first couple cruises I wore high heals on elegant night with my nice dress.....then I grew up and realized my feet suffering were not worth it. Now I wear "fancy flip flops" on elegant nights (and my less fancy on every other night). I'm also someone who changes out of my "lounging pants" and puts on my "fancy yoga pants" to run errands!!

As for the person who said entitlement at its best for saying "it's my vacation" I have to disagree. Unless they are treating others unkind or being rude to the workers they can wear anything they want on "their" vacation because they worked hard for it. I would take a ship full of flip flop wearing people who have no fashion sense then rude, unkind people.

My son has autism and he HATES the color purple......I would never expect them to ban purple because he thinks it's tacky, ugly and hard to look at. He is 7 and understands already that he just has to look away.

Wear your flip flops, enjoy your vacation, make friends, be understanding and be kind!!!

    Pictures would solve everything.

Agreed with the highlighted. With that being said, this really isn't that big of a deal. flip flops or not, it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. People fighting over the dumbest stuff...lol
