  1. Desperate times 😂

    :'):')

My sisters doctor gives her meds in case she gets a cold....she has COPD and ended up being taken off the ship to a island hospital because her cold settled in her chest since she had no antibiotics with her. It was a very expensive and scary ordeal....Her doctor told her not to travel again with out them. Surprise Surprise you don't know everything and everyone's situation is different.

actually, your post actually proves my point. in people who get sick who actually needs drugs, a simple pack of antibiotics is not going to prevent a hospitalization. read my posts. there are situations where antibiotics are not useful and others where it is indicated. for the typical cruiser, they aren't. the vast majority of us don't need those meds packed up. no one needs 3 different types of NSAIDs and tylenol.

believe it or not, antibiotics are very controversial in COPD patients. there is debate if we are doing more harm then good and when or when not to start them. if your sister is carrying an O2 tank, then she of course is very sick. i mean this with kindness and sincerity, you should ask the doctor of her prognosis. it might be eye opening. i wish her the best of luck.

disclaimer: this comment is just for entertainment purposes and should not be regarded as a consultation or medical advice. I bare no liability as I have not seen, examined, diagnosed, or treated anyone on this thread.

  2. Don't believe all the hype of homocide investigators. That is just spin that they put to make the story more juicy.

It is likely just a crime scene investigator (CSI) from the police dept. I know b/c I worked as a death scene investigator (DSI) from the medical examiner/corner office. CSI and DSI work together. CSI has jurisdiction of the actual scene. DSI has jurisdiction over the body. Police and CSI should not (ideally) touch the body. When we walk onto scenes, we ALWAYS consider that it could be a murder, suicide, accident, or death of natural causes. It is always on our differential as we wouldn't want to miss something.

I will say this. When I read this headline, this seemed bizarre to me-not homocide bizarre, but bizarre none the less. But I wasn't on scene to see how an 8 yo girl could get so high above a railing to fall.

  3. I d/'t und'st'd y peeps use uness' wr't'g styles t't d't s'v m'ny key str'k's. I g'ss I'm get/g old.

Interpretation: I don't understand why people use unnecessary writing styles that don't save many key strokes. I guess I'm getting old.:loudcry: (crying)

I am in a profession that uses a lot of short hand and abbreviations, even on legal documents. even old fogies use em 2

so I don't want to write out things like b/c.

  4. May not be Celebrity's desired demographic, but Celebrity ships are filled with that exact "demographic." And they appear to have both the time and the money to go often and enjoy it greatly. :')

I think the ships are filled w/ the elderly b/c most of the younger generation thinks that cruising is for old farts, which I would strongly disagree w/

  5. Right? I absolutely love my docs and they're fantastic... But I imagine a cruise scene with one would go something like this... "We need immodium stat! Nurse mkmaj- Where is it? Where do we get that from? Doesn't someone just magically deliver it? No? Oh... did you pack it?"

yea....cuz the immodium needs to be stat, and then you fluid resuscitate, right?

  6. I am pretty sure the OP is one and done with this board and CC just like he is with cruising. I do remember those spa people putting me in a chicken wing and applying pressure until I signed DW and me up for thousands of dollars of spa treatments. Simple polite "no thank you" works.

it's so easy to avoid and ignore them. how they apply pressure to u?

Can't tell you how many times i bye Felicia all sorts of people trying to upsell me stuff.

  7. I actually don't mind these posts. I prefer crabby people that are just looking for excuses to whine and are not happy no matter what, don't go on vacations or cruises that I end up on.

ugh....they are the WORST when they are on your cruise...even when they are justified in complaining, it just makes a bad situation worst. I leave so fast when I hear them yap.

so much truth in what u said.

  8. I just don't get these threads. It's a cruise, not an all inclusive. You'd pay thousands more for an all inclusive. Yes, there are upsells. But you're not required to purchase anything and there's plenty of fun and good food to be had if you don't purchase anything extra.

I don't get them either. these are mistakes that you made. no one forced you to start shelling out money.

I am a millennial, but I think personal responsibility/accountability is important.

The original poster sounds like a salesman’s dream customer.

OP: I’d like to purchase a cabin on a cruise to Alaska.

NCL: No you’ll be better off going to Bermuda first.

    OP: OK.

NCL: You should buy the Spa Package, it’s only $500.

    OP: OK.

NCL: Even though you have the UBP you should try the Martini Tasting for $19.95.

    OP: OK.

NCL: Bingo is fun. You can play three games for $50.

    OP: OK

NCL: Deal or No Deal is fun. You can play for $25 a card.

    OP: OK

NCL: As mentioned in your Freestyle Daily, room service only costs $7.95. You should try it.

    OP: OK

I think the OP and his wife need to learn how to say NO.

    :'):'):'):'):')

  9. I agree there seems to be a prevalence of upselling on cruise lines. However, IMHO, there is plenty to do and enjoy without feeling like you 'must' spend extra money.

Since a lot of what the OP mentioned is 'manageable' (even by managing expectations), I wouldn't write off cruising all together before trying a different cruise line.

You may find a cruise line where overall the positives outweigh the negatives....for you.

Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Forums mobile app

I would suggest that they don't cruise again. This experience will sour all future cruise exp b/c first impressions are lasting impressions.

I suggest the OP vacation how they did in the past. It obviously brought them some degree of happiness, unlike cruising.

Oh gosh...no one forced you to buy anything. There are all the freebies for those who have no desire to spend more than they paid for the cruise. All those freebies are listed on the website. They also offer extras for an extra charge. The extras are for those who don't mind paying to enhance their vacation...like some of the shows, restaurants etc. And yes, you could have had your special bourbon by paying the difference. People can go on a vacation seeking out the fun and positive things and ignore the negative or they can decide to pick the entire vacation apart and be miserable.

    agreed

  10. I tell this to every first time cruiser - try to spend as little as you can on the ship.

Sorry to say it. This is a simple case of buyer's remorse. Don't splurge if it will make you unhappy. Of course read descriptions. Martini tasting but you have a drink package? That's on you...

  11. Love the idea of revitalizing the cabins, especially on M class - long overdue. But at the same time, who designed these things?? I so agree with the idea that the designers need to spend a couple weeks in those cabins (with a lot of sea days) and then see how they like them, More modern is fine - but these look so very cold and uncomfortable. More important - storage is already a challenge, especially on longer cruises. The storage in these designs just looks awful! What are they thinking?!?!? Do they even listen to or care about their customers?? How many people complained about lack of storage when S class came out? So to address that issue, they are going to go with even less storage to make S class look good! Geez.

How can a company be so blind to their customers' needs? Makes me think it is all about looking good in a way appealing to rich Millennials. But I have news for them - Millennials may like sleek and modern (or may not) but they are not stupid - one cruise in these cabins and they may not be coming back.

I don't think closet space is very high on Millennial's list. I could be wrong tho....i am the kind that will keep most of my clean cloths, except those that need to be hung d/t wrinkles, in my luggage. I then keep all my dirty cloths in drawers in a plastic bag.
