  1. I like videos but I find most of them cover way too much of the general stuff and ports, when I go to videos I’m looking for the real minutiae that most people don’t care about… things like how embarkation works in certain ports, reviews of all the parties and nightlife, what the staff are like, things like that. most of them are all very general. Booo
  2. Thank you. That’s what I was hoping to hear Any cruise can be bad depending on the crowd I guess. For example almost all NCL cruises I’ve been on were fine, but one was full of tattoos and fights, there was a major melee outside the nightclub on the Encore… they got booted off at the next port… I guess the one particular port that might be a bit wild is the NOLA cruises but I’m not planning on going there
  3. Starting to get a little concerned about my memorial week cruise from Brooklyn next week. Reading lots of posts on other sites that people bring pot. To me, if that’s the first question people ask about this ship, that’s not a good sign. Is the crowd from this port going to be a little rough and tumble? Starting to get the impression I’ve signed up for a 3-day Carnival out of Nola where people bring their luggage on in a reuseable grocery bag… I also saw one video where the reviewer said “a certain demographic of people who made up most of the passengers” were extremely rude at the buffet and hoarding armfuls of fruit to bring back to their room. (He would not get more specific than that) anyone can shed light on what kind of demographic I can expect, will really help to assuage my concerns or at least prepare me for what sounds like it might be a total shipshow… *gulp* 😩
  4. The agent felt a YC inside was higher than Aurea with whirlpool. Other posters on here don’t all disagree. I can understand the argument. Yes the agent is new to MSC but I don’t think that they’re necessarily wrong. And going by the MSC upgrade terms, you could easily interpret the fine print as meaning “YC anything” is higher than all non-YC anyway all good, I got an aft balcony instead 🙂
  5. I don’t understand that. What does this mean? Why cashback?
  6. Love me a good CD. I’m the guy that asks the CD what party is which night, what are the best ones not to miss and i go to as many activities I can which are run by the CD and their team. By the end of a cruise, if the CD knows my name, it means it was a good cruise and good CD
  7. Well for those that are still following I decided to drop the bid bc my agent believes there could have been a chance I would have lost my balcony for a YC inside. on the upshot, I got a free upgrade to an aft balcony! looking forward to that
  8. Also forgot to mention I’m beside one of the triple family cabin size suites (the two balconies plus the inside cabin). Could be noisy if a family has taken this. Still, first world problems I guess. I like playing music on my balcony as it is, so I’ll outsound em if I hafta🤣
  9. Jamie! Wassap honey! Did you give up NCL for good? Didn’t think I’d find you here of all places. Just got platinum on NCL but I might be a convert with these MSC prices. Something ridiculous like $1300USD including alcohol, less than double what I paid on the prima in April!!! ya, the long walk home is a bummer, guess the heels just gotta come off right after you get off the elevator! we shall see
  10. I just switched my regular balcony on the side of the Meraviglia for no price change or re-fare, to an aft balcony in the middle of the ship on deck 11. I have always wanted to try an aft balcony, and most cruise lines charge extra for it, so I was pretty stoked to see this come up. My one concern is how deep the balcony is, did anyone feel irritated by that? did it feel Too dark in the room with the curtains open? It’s a different “large balcony” from some other large balconies on other ships such as deck eight on the Norwegian breakaway class, where some Large balconies aren’t covered. The aft balcony I have is almost entirely covered, except a few inches at the edge. Am I missing anything here, or is this a good move? I figure that with a regular balcony cabin, I would have to stand on the balcony and look over the edge to see left and right anyway, so even though this one is deeper, it shouldn’t make too much of a difference. I don’t mind a few inches of lost privacy above for the trade-off. I’ve seen a few videos online of similar cabins, and I don’t really see any disadvantages. I don’t mind the noise. Not too worried about exhaust. Sure, it will be a much longer walk to the elevators, but that’s about it. What do you all think? First time on MSC
  11. We’re counting on you chief!!! Don’t let us down. I am on the sailing after that one so people will be askin’
  12. I’m on after next week. If no one else reports back by then, I will try
  13. I’m surprised I haven’t seen a recent thread on the reopening. Can anyone on board in the next week or two confirm that Ocean Cay is actually open again? also on an unrelated topic, does anyone know which side I have to be on to view the lighthouse from a balcony cabin on board?
  14. That’s what I was thinking. Valuables in the mix, but ya. I’ve read on some sites that there’s a bag check near the pool deck or cafeteria on boarding day.
  15. LOOOOOL. I actually didn’t call it that but that’s what the terminology was from the stewards. It may be Filipino English dialect
  16. This is just bizarre to me. I can see why it might be an upgrade if someone BID on it, but to consider it an upgrade from an Aurea whirlpool suite with its own full wraparound balcony and private pool is another matter. You get no private outdoor space with an interior, so cabin-wise it is a downgrade.
  17. New to MSC. 1. Has anyone had any issue carrying on a heating pad with auto shutoff these days? I’ve read mixed reports, I’m thinking This is probably a YMMV issue. 2. Do they have boarding day carry on bag check? 3. going on the theme of the first two Q’s, I get a Bad back and joints. Hence the bag check and heating pad. Has anyone had any luck getting an egg crate/foam topper mattress pad for their bed on MSC? The beds are usually too hard for me plus only half useable because of the crack down the middle.
  18. we’ll probably be eating together at the beginning of the cruise…but not by the end of it LOOOOOL
  19. I don’t care about any of fhe aurea stuff, I just want the whirlpool
  20. I don’t disagree with the sentiment but I’m going with a group and I would be alone in YC the whole time so what’s the point. Also I hope you don’t mind sunbathing in public because you won’t be able to get sun in the privacy of your own cabin with an interior
  21. I think you’re probably right that I’m overthinking it, but it wouldn’t be a stretch for MSC (or any cruise line) to consider an interior yacht club room a step up from an existing regular balcony
  22. DAWG! Where ya bin, long time no see. I don’t care if I don’t win the bid for a suite with whirlpool, I just wouldn’t want to be “upgraded” to a yacht club interior or balcony. If anyone has had an experience with bidding on a whirlpool, do they actually get one if they win.
  23. I’m kinda confuzed about the upgrade bid process on MSC. I currently have a regular (fantastica) balcony cabin… I was offered to bid on a choice of 3 upgrades, a regular yacht club balcony, an aurea balcony suite w/whirlpool, and an interior yacht club suite. I submit one bid…the aurea whirlpool. does this mean, I could potentially lose my current balcony and be put into a yacht club interior? Is that considered an “upgrade”? Similarly, could I end up being placed in the yacht club regular balcony? I’m going solo…so the yacht club is really of no interest to me, and I would be shattered if I was actually “upgraded” to an interior. Does anyone have an experience to share where they lost a balcony and were placed into an interior, or bid on a whirlpool? Below is the info on the room I submitted for the upgrade: Suite Aurea with Terrace and Whirlpool Comfortable king bed that can be converted into two single beds on request Large balcony with a private whirlpool bath Walk-in closet Sitting area with double sofa bed Bathroom with shower, vanity area and hairdryer Interactive TV, telephone, safe and minibar Wi-Fi access available ($) Approx. 291 -420 ft2 with a balcony that is approx. 280 - 388 ft2 Located on deck 12
  24. I meant if you’re on an independent excursion. If you can eyeball the ship, you’re likely fine to cut it close
  25. Strict. Sometimes the all aboard time is within 30 minutes of the actual sail time. I personally would aim for 2 hours PRIOR to the time posted in the daily. The only grace you can really count on is embarkation day, where I was once delayed due to lost luggage plus a lost driver, and I got to POM at about 2:30-3 for a 4 PM departure. Everything was pretty chill at the terminal by that time, no lines, but all the way there including up until I actually was told I’m good to go, I was having a nervous breakdown and making plans in case I didn’t get on. They were starting muster drills right after I stepped on the boat
