  1. We sailed on March 6, 2016 from Beijing to Shanghai. Our weather was gorgeous. No rain, no smog. It was cold in Beijing but not unbearable. I did bring a warm coat that had a hood as well as gloves, but once we left Beijing, I switched to a light windbreaker. I loved going in March. There were no crowds and our ship was only half booked. Our tour guide told us the tourist season really gets busy from late April on. He said the wait time at the Terra Cotta museum alone could be 2-3 hours. We had no wait, just walked right in.

  2. I have been enjoying your review very much mostly because we sail on the Connie in about 4 weeks to some of the same ports. Our cruise departs from Venice. I have to comment on the food and entertainment. You are right in that these two things are subject to each one's taste. We first sailed on the Connie six months after we sailed on the Allure of the Seas. As you can imagine the entertainment on the Allure was amazing! We saw Chicago as well as all the other wonderful shows that were offered. The Allure is an incredible ship, so when we booked the Constellation it was for the itinerary, we did a Baltic cruise on her which is at the top of our favorite cruises. I was worried for weeks before we left that all of us (we sailed with same friends on both cruises) would be so disappointed in this small and old ship versus the big,new and amazing Allure. Well I worried needlessly. The Connie was incredible from the Captain and his crew, to the excellent food in the MDR to the fantastic production shows in the theatre. I can only hope the next cruise will be as good as the first!

  3. We are sailing on the Constellation Sept. 29, 2016. Online check-in opens July 1, 2016. Will choice air be available at that time? I can't seem to find a link to it right now. Thank you.

  4. It's been a few years since we last sailed with Princess. Celebrity has become our cruise line of choice, but we are always open to any line that has the right itinerary. We love that Celebrity has eliminated formal nights and was hoping Princess has done the same. Can anyone confirm that? Thank you.

  5. Thanks for your review. The Connie was our first Celebrity cruise also back in 2013 and we fell in love with her and her crew. We've since sailed the Equinox and Millenium and while they were great cruises, the Connie still remains our favorite. In fact we sail on her again in September on an Adriatic cruise. Your post reminded me of how much we have to look forward to. Glad you enjoyed your cruise.

  6. We never used an ATM for Yuan. All of the hotels will gladly exchange USD for yuan. You just have to ask. Only one street vendor took dollar bills. Everyone else wanted yuan. Your tour guide will let you know when you can pay with a credit card. There are a lot of places they advise you to pay only with cash. Be sure to bargain with the locals. They always ask for double of what they will actually take. Also May is one of their busiest months, so expect lots of crowds. Our guide said the waiting time in May can be two hours at the Terra Cotta warriors. We lucked out, our tour was only half booked and we only had 30 people in our group and not everyone showed up every day for whatever reason.

Have a great time. Our trip was amazing.

  7. We just got back from Vikings Beijing to Shanghai trip and I can't say enough good things about it. Viking took great care of us and we had a wonderful time. Everything from the flights, the hotels, the tours, the cruise was all incredible. Sure we did get a little tired of Chinese food, but gee we were in China so we expected to eat it often. The food on the river boat was delicious and much better than our last river cruise. I would recommend this trip to anyone who wants to visit China.

  8. We are on the March 6 Beijing to Shanghai trip. We live outside Houston so drove in on Friday to drop off passports and picked them up the following Wednesday. Very quick and easy and I think maybe a little cheaper.

  9. Saw my Dr today and she said yellow fever shot was not necessary to enter China. She's from Shanghai. My travel agent also checked and said Viking does not require the shot. We have never been to South America although we are planning to go next year. I have sent an email to Viking re the Inoculations card but have not heard back from them.

  10. We sailed with him on our May 2012 cruise to the Baltics. He is great and he is the only Captain's name I can remember after 20 cruises. We sail on the Connie again in late September 2016 and I hope he will be on board. He makes the cruise even more special.
