  1. I was wondering how you lived in Arizona and didn't like spicy food. I guess that midwestern thing explains it! :D

I've been here for 34 years now, you'd like I would have acquired a taste for it....and I have, to some point....but I'd always rather have good Italian or meat and potatoes.:)

There are now tons of Mexican restaurants in Omaha, but none of them are as good as what we have here. They didn't even have a Taco Bell until just after I got out of high school. In middle school, they opened a Taco John's....not that those really count.

  2. This REALLY concerns me! :(

We are Princess (and sometimes Celebrity) cruisers who are thinking of taking a cruise with all of our children and grandchildren on Disney.

One of the reasons is that one grand daughter has Celiac's and an egg allergy and my daughter did some research and felt Disney might accommodate her food needs the best. However, she might need the medical center ( she reacts to even cross-contamination of foods) and I know that Princess medical personnel have a reputation of being fabulous and caring. In our 40 years of sailing with Princess I've never once heard anything that sounds like what you report. :(

I honestly don't know what to tell you. I do know that Disney is VERY careful with people who have allergies. My husband is allergic to fish and peanut products, and he says it bugs him sometimes, how much attention they pay him at meal times. (Says he's been dealing with it his whole life, blah blah blah) But you never can be too careful.

I would really, really hope and want to think that in the case of a child, the medical center would do everything possible to help.

I live by the motto of being prepared. Do everything you can, yourselves, to make sure that you have everything your granddaughter needs, and be extra vigilant. (As I'm sure you all are, anyway!)

  3. They were lucky that the boy's parent's were not there to hear that.

I know what you mean about painkillers. I have a bad back and sometimes it really acts up. You know how when you drop something, the 5 second rule applies? We'll when my back is in pain and I drop a painkiller, I use a 2 minute rule because thats how long it takes for me to pick it up. lol

Honestly, I've learned to use my toes to pick up small items....I have four cracked vertebra in my back, so I try to be extra cautious.

And I agee....I felt bad for the little boy and his family and never even knew them.

  4. When I was down in the medical center, I overheard conversations between the nurse and an aide, that I probably wasn't supposed to hear, but I WAS sitting right there.....they were talking badly about the passengers, and being annoyed that they'd been "bothered" by a little boy who'd hit his head by the pool.

If I'd been smart, I would have run then....but I needed painkillers! LOL

  5. Ouch!!! How did you break your ribs?

Long story short, I was stepping out of my stateroom on the day we boarded the ship, and a CM had left a bag right in the middle of the doorway. I was far aft, where there's almost enough room for a lobby area, so no excuse for putting the bag right there. Even if I had looked down (why would I?) I can't see my feet without bending over (two somethings get in my way, if you get my drift) and boy....did I fly! Across the hall, landed on my side with my left arm tucked under me. I sprained that wrist, too.

They accepted responsibility, and paid for my medical care and a small compensation....that I didn't ask for. I did get mad later, when I contacted their shoreside people (as I was instructed to do) to get further medical bills paid for, and that person told me to go jump. But I didn't go any further with it. I just needed to heal.

So I suppose that incident plays into my problem of not being able to see the Pixie Dust all the time. They broke their promises and lied to me. I've cruised with them since, and I'm going again, so obviously I don't hate them.....I find it sad and disappointing now, more than anything.

  6.

Anyway, my one experience with a ship doctor happened to be on DCL. He was rude to my sick child and they unprofessionally gave me meds the next day for another child they hadn't even seen so I wouldn't bring him to the clinic. Perhaps they were just overworked with all the sick passengers on that particular sailing. Regardless, I try to avoid ship doctors. :)

I remember you telling about that once before, that's awful. Maybe they were nice to me because THEY were paying for it, and were afraid I'd sue them or cause a stink. Not that I would have sued them....they have way more lawyers than I do. ;)

  7. Your too funny!!! :D How are they with passengers? I have never needed medical attention on a ship, so I haven't had the pleasure of one taking my temperature.

They didn't take my temperature, but they treated me well. I broke three ribs on the Wonder. They had antiquated equipment, but they took good care of me.

  8. Wait one minute - you ARE making a statement about the type of people who live there. You say you don't go into those neighborhoods due to "safety" issues. Well - you're implying people in those neighborhoods either attract crime or participate in it. You're saying the same thing as people who say the Walmart crowd cruises on Carnival. You're just trying to disguise it to make it seem you're less judgmental.

Nope...I'm not implying.....I watch the news and see the reports of stabbings, robberies and drive-by shootings....I'm stating a fact.

  9. I agree. Also, those parent that speak to their children that way, are just going to hear it back from them when they become teenagers.

We have these neighbors a few houses down that moved in approx 4 years ago. Prior to them moving in, the neighborhood was so quite and peaceful. You could sit outside with a glass of ice tea and chat for hours. We'll not anymore. 4 years ago, the son's were middle school age and I would hear the mother swearing at them all the time. I could not believe how she spoke to those boys. Now 4 years later, I don't even want to repeat how they speak to her, at the top of their lungs even.

Unfortunately, that's how it works. It's sad. And it doesn't have anything to do with how much they can afford.

  10. I know this is kind of off topic, but I was thinking about Walmart. There are some neighborhoods that would be considered "bad" and some Walmarts are in those neighborhoods.

I don't reject going to those Walmarts, or neighborhoods, because I don't care to be around "those type of people"......I don't go because it could be a safety issue. I prefer to try to keep myself SAFE.

As far as any connection to cruising....there isn't any. I've never felt "unsafe" on any cruise I've been on.

So to me, if someone compares Walmart to Carnival, they are comparing the type of people who go there. And it's wrong.

There is a mixture of the "type" of people who cruise on Disney, just as much as there is on any other line. And THAT'S what causes me to get so worked up about this topic......when other people imply that people who can afford to cruise on Disney are somehow better than everyone else. Just not true.

And if you think you can cruise on Disney and not hear some swear words, including the "F bomb"...then you're kidding yourself. I've even heard parents swearing at their children.:(

  11. I hardley think Disney is ripping people off. You know the prices and the choice to go or not to go is yours. I gladly pay their prices because to me they are worth it. Did you ever think that if Disney were cheap, what amount of riff raff you would have and then no one would want to go anymore. If people feel disney is too expensive, then maybe they should stick with Universal, Bush Gardens and Carnival Cruise lines.

First of all, I never said people who go to Universal, Bush Gardens are riff raff. I said if people think Disney is to expensive then they stick to them. What I meant by riff raff at Disney, is that when something it too cheap, and this can be anywhere, it does attract people you would not want to vacation with. Maybe I didn't word it properly.

As far a being arrogant, I believe that describes you MizDaisy. Constantly bashing and going on about how well off you are financially. I have read more than one post of you going on about how much money you have had your entire life. Who cares, and you are not the only one. The difference is, others don't brag about it.

What you said here is that people who can't afford to go to Disney or on Disney Cruise Line are riff raff. In other words, if they lowered their prices, so that "riff raff" could afford to go, then there would be people at Disney who are undesirable.

You may be trying to say that is NOT what you said, but it is.

  12. Let's trade. Our's is the exact opposite. I swear when I drive by, 7 out of 10 times at least 2 police cars are there. I have also noticed less and less cars parked there when the cars used to overflow.

I know that there are some like that, so I understand what you were saying. But it's wrong to lump them all together. Wrong to lump people all together, too.

It's funny....in the early days of Disneyland, they had a dress code. It was specifically put in place to keep the "hippie" types out. Kind of sad, really....didn't the hippies deserve to have fun, too?

We've come a long way toward equal rights, so using a phrase like "keeping out the riff raff" just sets us back.

  13. A Walmart just opened up in our small town. We're actually two "sister" towns, right next to eachother, north of Phoenix, north of Scottsdale.

The cars in our Walmart parking lot are BMW's, Jags, Lexus, Cadillac, Audi.....and those are just the employees!! :D

Seriously.....there are people who live up here who are pretty close to being the same net worth level as Bill Gates, and yet they shop at Walmart.

Ever hear of Bob Parsons? Look him up.

    Solo Cup Company?

    Zildjian Cymbals?

  14. Your statement makes absolutely no sense. Ok, so if I can't stand foul mouth, trouble making idiots this means I'm a racist? Seriously! Do you even know what race I am, take a guess doll!

It doesn't matter what race you are. There are racists in every color of the rainbow.

I agree with you about not liking to hear the "F bomb".....can't even go to a movie any more because the writers think everyone talks like that.

But grouping people who use foul language as all being (or mostly) shoppers at Walmart, or non-Disney people IS racist. Prejudiced, at the least.

  15. I definitely remember having shrimp cocktail on DCL, not sure if it was at dinner or the peel and eat at lunch though. For sure had it at least once in Palo as well, not sure if it was brunch or dinner.

Definitely LOTS of shrimp at brunch in Palo. I didn't notice it at dinner...could have been.

Just the same as I didn't word "rip off" properly??? What's okay for you, isn't okay for me? Whatever.

The only time I've mentioned being raised upper class was to point out that I've spent enough time around "rich" people to know that they are no different than anyone else. Again...money doesn't buy class. You'll find perfectly lovely people in every walk of life.

  17. Ahh - but here's the rub. YOU appear to be a hypocrite - plain and simple. You denounce Disney as a rip-off yet are "happy" to be a stockholder. That's like someone who bemoans about the dangers of cigarettes but reaps the profits of owning Phillip Morris stock. IMHO - you can't have it both ways. If you think Disney is ripping people off - divest yourself of the stock and buy something else. But to label the company as a rip-off yet continue to reap the benefits of its appreciating stock - well - what does that say about you???

The stockholder thing was a joke. I own one share, that I get a dime for every year. Big deal. We bought it to frame, to put in our "Disney" room.

Obviously, I'm not the Disney hater everyone seems to think I am. But if someone is going to talk about whether or not it's worth that much more money to go on a Disney cruise....I've said it before, take your kids once or twice, see the same shows twice, and after that, I DO believe it's not worth the extra money.

MY opinion. And I have a right to it.

  18. I do agree with you. Riff Raff comes from all walks of life regardless of income, but for some reason a lot of them seem to have one thing in common and that is going to cheaper places. There are plenty of wonderful people that have a lower income level and they are not the people I was talking about. I could be standing in a check out line in, let's say Macy's, and encounter a jerk from time to time. But there have been many times that I would see an actual fight break out in a Walmart or have to listen to a person that can not put two sentences together without dropping the F bomb at least 5 times. It's just kind of hard not to notice these things.

One of the wealthiest women I know is so crass and foul-mouthed, that I refuse to be around her. We've had to deal with her because of business, but I won't socialize.

    Money does not buy class.

This was the post I was referring to.
