Finally on our way for a Norwegian cruise . First cruise for a family of five plus various in-laws.

Have learnt so much from here I want to give something back!

On the coach now. Mild panic as it's scheduled to arrive as our boarding slot closes. We'll quiz the driver when he stops for what seems like a considerable break .  I'm guessing there's so few of us for the early spot they've put us on a later coach.  Marginally annoying as wanted the head start on booking stuff!

I don't think there's anything quite as exciting as your first cruise. That moment when you first board to me was like Christmas morning as a kid. Have a wonderful time!

Sanitiser does not kill virus. Hand washing does!

I agree but you can't really dash to the bathroom to wash your hands once you've put your food on the table before you eat it can you 😉

However that doesn't stop people using the many other entrances on virtuosa when we were onboard. I got ill for two days sadly yet washed my hands everytime i went into the buffet and used sanitizer after i put my plate down on the table post using the tong's. Still got ill 🤷

Same here. Just back from Azura. Used sanitiser each time we went in buffet even going back fo dessert. And my own hand gel after using tongs before eating. Still was bit poorly for 2 days. Going to try probiotics before next trip to reinforce my tummy.

With regards to the smell and vibrating cabins, I was on Azura last October, aft balcony on D deck. When docking the vibration in the cabin was very pronounced but saved me booking an early morning call as it would have woken up Rip van Winkle!! When we were heading to the theatre one evening, just past the photography area if memory serves me well, the sudden horrendous sewage smell caused me to turn to the member of my family nearest to me and advise her (it was her first ever cruise) that it was a not uncommon occurrence on Azura. I have sailed on her three times and the smell has been noticeable, albeit very briefly on each sailing at some point. Maybe some people have a more sensitive nose than others!?

The vibrating cabin wasn't just ours then! We wouldn't book another aft for that reason. It was horrendous. Like being next to a pneumatic drill when docking. On an odd night (seemed to be when we were going a bit faster) the bed shook that much I had to sleep on the sofa, although I am a light sleeper. Will stick to midship next time.

It was most noticeable at the front upper deck ,adjacent to the retreat, it came and went but it was horrible when it did , its quite possible that passengers who have not had the misfortune of this issue were not or didn't visit that area of the ship?

I have to be honest and say we never visited that area this time.

The bigger issue in my view is the smell. That would truly wreck my holiday and I was thinking of booking two weeks on Azura next year.

Going to have rethink strongly on this one.

Just why hasn’t it been sorted? Have the crew become immune to it?

Hi we just got back yesterday from a week on Azura. Never noticed a sewage smell on deck. We had a lovely time. Went on her 4 years ago. Still looking lovely. Only problem we had was a vibrating deluxe cabin on E deck. Seriously couldn't sleep when she was docking which was a pain as sometimes this was very early. The whole cabin shook. But we'd definitely go on Azura again.

Was on Arvia for our 1st ever cruise 2-16th Apr. We loved it!

We are now hooked and looking for our next cruise. We've seen a 14nt Carribbean on Britannia for 22 March 2024. For a standard balcony it's £1799pp (plus £65pp supplements for Manchester airport departure) but with £440 OBC with select fare.

On Arvia we were in inside cabin and would like to try a balcony next so do you experienced cruisers think this B406 Carribbean cruise is good value for money or is the price likely to drop (particularly after balance due date)?

Would love to know people's thoughts.

Hi we are on this cruise too. We booked in January and paid quite a bit more than that although we did get more OBC. Sounds a good price. Brittanias a lovely ship. Our first cruise was a transatlantic on her in 2017 and we were hooked too. We enjoy the sea days though but not everyone does.

Interesting. I don’t like the sound of it being a general thoroughfare and seating area, rather than exclusively a restaurant. We prefer quieter places to eat. Might give it a try on a port day when most people are ashore!

Guess we might have been just lucky as it was a quieter night but we were sat here and it was fine.

  9. We loved the Keel and Cow when we were on Iona in November. The Hampshire cheese was very nice. Very strong though. Cleared your sinuses! It was quiet when we went and we sat at a table that was at the far end of the atrium. Loved it. We'd definitely go again.

  10. We were on Iona in November/December. The crossing back wasn't great to be honest as there was a large swell. I managed with Stugeron and seabands but felt really queasy in the MDR one night and it wasnt easy to sleep as we were on deck 12. We also got catapulted from a lift due to the movement which was funny at the time. It was winter though. DH thought it was fantastic as hes ex merchant navy. If we sailed on the BOB route again I would definitely choose a cabin low down and midship especially if prone to seasickness.

We find that going down at around 7am we can usually get a lift without too much problem.

Yes us too. Same time off Iona in November. Easy peasy. We were actually surprised at how easy. We had a long journey ahead of us and couldn't bear the thought of hanging round waiting to disembark.
