  1. We have used Travel Pass on several International cruises, including Mexico, and it works well. You will be notified when entering each country where you will be charged $10 per 24 hours (if you use your phone) which gives you access to the same voice, text and data plan you have at home. If you also use their service on-board ship, you will be charged for all talk, text and data at per-usage pricing. If you want to be available for messages while at sea and not face exorbitant charges, simply disable data roaming instead of placing your phone in airplane mode. The charge for incoming texts (at least on our plan) is only .05 each, and no charge for voice unless you actually connect. Service, however, is not the best so you may not receive the texts until you get in range of a land-based tower.

    .

I really need answer from someone who has actually tried this. I've read a million things on what it "should" do and there is a lot of vague information.

Usually we do RCCL and buy the unlimited data, so never have an issue. We will be cruising on Princess which only offers data by the minute. Because my husband needs to work (yes, I know, he should turn it off, but he can't!!) it's important to be able to receive calls at all times. Using "by the minute" means that if phone is turned on, the clock is running, even if you never talk to anyone !! If my math is correct, that's about $400 per 12 hours. Obviously, we can't afford that and most say it takes about 5 minutes just to log on because Princess wifi is bad bad bad. Wifi on board this ship is not an option.

Has anyone used Travel Pass and been able to use their phone for calls while ON THE SHIP? Did you incur charges per minute? I'm hoping that IF there is a signal while on board that it's from a close island and the International Travel Pass fee will cover the connection. IF it catches the ship's cell tower, Verizon charge us the minutes used price in addition to the Travel Pass price?

Mostly we can use the Travel Pass minutes/data/text while in port, but we have 3 days at sea. Any help is greatly appreciated. I have probably thoroughly confused everyone :) I know that I am thoroughly confused!!

    Thank you in advance,

    Susan

  2. We have the same plan...and that $60 a month includes all the taxes :). In the interest of full disclosure we should mention that its a plan only available to Seniors (in this case 55+) and the offer could be withdrawn at any time (the history of T-Mobile would be that those who have the plan are Grandfathered). What makes it such a great plan is that everything in Unlimited....and it just works darn near everywhere. For me its been extra nice because I know longer have to drag my old Garmin Nuvi (with European maps) to Europe....as now I can simply use my phone (with unlimited data) as our GPS.

Does Tmobile require a contract? Can I buy a sim card and use in my current phone or do I have to buy a tmobile phone?

    Thanks,

    Susan

  3. We are on the Dream March 19th and I just checked to make sure Verizon hadn't changed anything since my 2016 cruise. They have several options, but I like the Travel Pass that allows you to pay a small daily fee to use your regular plan talk, text, and data limits.

With Verizon your plan should allow you to use your phone in US, Canada, and Mexico (this is a change from 2016, last year I had a $2/day upcharge to use the Travel Pass in Canada). So you should be able use your regular plan in Cozumel while at port (Verizon told me my plan includes that, you should check yours).

In Belize and Roatan, you can add the Verizon Travel Pass on your account before you leave for your trip. This will allow you to use your plan in these ports for $10/day.

By adding Travel Pass to your acct before you leave, it will automatically prompt you to confirm use when you use your device in a different country. Once you get to port and use your phone you will receive a text confirming you want to activate Travel Pass for that day. As long as you reply yes, you're good to use phone, text, and data within your normal Verizon plan limits.

You can add Travel Pass online or you can call Verizon and they can add it for you. I always like to call just to confirm things, plus if something goes crazy and u come back to a bill you weren't expecting (which I've never had happen) there is record you inquired.

I like the Travel Pass bc I don't want to have to pick and pay for an international plan for two days. Plus, if I'm having too much fun in port and decide I don't need my phone that day, I'm not out any money.

I know this is from last year, but I'm hoping you can answer a few questions. I also have verizon and will be using the travel pass. I'm sailing on Princess in April 2018, going to the caribbean. If Princess offered unlimited data we would use that, but they offer only by the minute--not nearly enough data for what we need. All of our islands are covered under the travel pass.

Did you have any luck catching a signal while on the ship? Im sure its a long shot, but wondering.

Did you have any surprise charges?

Is there anything you learned about using the travel pass that you can share?

    Thank you,

    Susan

  4. We will be on the Caribbean Princess in April. It seems that per minute is the only type of internet available. I'm not familiar with how per minute works. Do I have to log in and out every time I want to use google or can I leave it on constantly? Does it use up the minutes even if I'm not actually using the internet?

  5. We just got the notification that our cruise on the Caribbean Princess on the 11th will have an inspection as well.

Big difference for us though is the cruise starting on the 11th is the 2nd half of a B2B.

Anyone know how the delay will affect intransit passengers? This is our first time doing a B2B and have read how relaxed turnaround day is. Just wondering how this will change that day for us?

    Thanks!

I will be on this cruise sailing the 11th. I'm curious as to how this goes asswell.

  6. I am new to Princess Cruise lines, not cruising, just new to Princess. On RCI cruises we use what'sapp (chat or calling) via wifi to communicate with each other while on the ship (for those onboard, not back home). Never had any problem with wifi on RCI. This obviously required buying wifi from the ship.

What is the best way to communicate with my travel companions onboard Princess Caribbean. We don't mind paying for wifi, but we want something that works! Thanks in advance :)

  7. Just my two cents. Purchase at home and now.

You take a lot of risk when purchasing on a cruise. Time is limited. Sometime you are rushed. If there is a defect or something goes wrong after wearing it there is very little recourse but at home these issues are overcome.

    Just my two cents.

    Keith

I agree. We purchased while on a cruise and didn't get the deal we thought. As stated before, you have no recourse if there is a problem.

  8. Learned a few things about the CB’s propulsion issues after talking to officers today: there is an electrical problem with the motors driving one of the propellers, resulting in a reduced maximum RPM of the propeller shaft. The other side must also be reduced in RPM to match, so the effective reduction in speed is approximately two knots. This is not an easy repair, so the CB will be going back into drydock in May 2019, earlier than originally scheduled, for repairs. This will be an extended drydock, lasting about 30 days.

Another thread was talking about AC and plumbing/flushing issues. Do you have any info on either?

  9. The key is knowing how the elevators are oriented.

When the elevator arrives at your floor and the door opens, look out and-----

if you see a wall then you are facing forward and starboard will be to your right, but if you are using the amidships elevators

if you see an elevator to the right of a doorway to a hall you are on the port side facing the starboard side, but

if you see an elevator to the left of a doorway to a hall you are on the starboard side facing the port side, but

if you can remember these tips after leaving Crooners you left too soon.

I got your joke. That was funny!!!

  10. We were on for 27 days in the British Isles/TA on Baja deck port side, mid 600's. We and many of our neighbors had problems with our toilets for most of the cruise, and our shower would go from very cold to very hot quickly. Neither of us had a decent shower in 27 days. The first crew member who came to check it turned the water on for less than a minute and told us it was fine! Four other times crew members came in and promised that it was fixed, but it never was fixed.

Once we got to warmer weather and needed our a.c. it was very poor. It was 78/80 most of the time even though we had technicians in several times. Finally, one tech. told us that if he fixed our a.c. it would make other cabins too warm. This was our 23rd Princess cruise, and we've never had the issues that we had on this cruise.

On the plus side, we loved the new beds.

How long ago was your 27 day cruise? This really worries me!

  11. Well, glad you were high and dry during the listing period! I still feel a little anxious though. I don’t think we should have to trade the working ability of the ship just to be able to cruise on Princess to the southern Caribbean in May. Seems the engine issues would be pretty high on most people’s list of concerns.

I'm on this ship in April for 10 days. The thought of 5 hours with no AC is a big deal. How do we find out if our specific cabin may be affected? Also, they changed ours from Southern Carib to Eastern Carib April 11th.

  12. Is popcorn only served in the evening at MUTS?

... Or can you also get it at MUTS in the afternoon?

... Or when a movie is being shown in the Princess Theater, is popcorn available?

We've been on many Princess cruises but have never gone to a movie.

On our upcoming cruise there is one we'd like to se

Sort of like eating popcorn while watching a movie.

Your replies will be greatly appreciated. :)

I hope you don't mind if I go off topic a little bit. I've sailed RCI many times and this is my first Princess. Where did you find the movie listed for your cruise? I can't find ANY activities at all on my April 11-21 Caribbean Princess cruise. I'd like to plan in advance, but I see nothing. Thanks in advance for your responses.

  13. I was adding to my post when you posted. There is a link to those cruises. Again, I'm not sure why you couldn't find it.

I have a question about Labadee. Years ago our cruise went to Coco Cay where beach lounge chairs were provided at no cost. Am I understanding that you must rent chairs at Labadee?

  14. No. 1 punch was for the small size 1 shot. Medium size was 2 shots / 2 punches - I don't know about the large size.

I suppose you might be able to request just 1 shot for the medium or large size but that might be kind of weak in the taste department.

I don't drink coffee, but I do like espresso for the pick-me-up. Do they serve a shot of espresso as a tiny drink or is it one shot in a giant cup? I'm familiar with drinking it in very small china coffee cups (1-2 oz size), but dunkin donuts and starbucks near me put the shot in a regular size paper cup...Just not the same as the cute little cup!

  15. Do any of these shops sell REAL espresso in the tiny little cups? I'm not a coffee drinker but drank espresso this spring in Italy. The little cup is about the equivalent of 1 oz. The Italians drink one in the morning, one in the afternoon, and one after dinner for "energy". And, man, does it do the job!!

I've been trying to find similar here in NC, but no luck. I'm hoping the Oasis may have this. Anyone with info??
