  1. I haven't been on Oasis but we were on Grandeur with my 7 year old celiac in August and it was AMAZING for her. Everyone says "email special needs" but you won't get any information out of them other than generic auto-reply type "stuff", you truly won't know your options until you're on board.

We thought we'd have to stay away from WJ because of cross-contamination but we ate there every day for breakfast and lunch, we found a staff member that looked out for us each time, getting my daughter "clean" food from the back. They made her "grilled cheese" (using a gf bun and American cheese) and hot dogs, they had fries for her, would get her fruit from the back and bring her packaged udi's cookies, she was in heaven. For breakfast, we brought boxes of her favorite cereals, she'd have yogurt, hard boiled eggs, and fruit and bacon from the back, it was amazing.

In the dining room, they'd have GF bread for her (some were good, some not so much), she loved the fruit soups, could get pasta (also had GF pasta at Giovanni's), shrimp, fries.. it also got her trying new foods like steak which she loved which was awesome.

Desserts were ok, she had ice cream a lot (I asked to read the ingredients for the soft serve on the pool deck and it passed my inspection :))

There were no chicken tenders but it was a smaller ship so maybe Oasis has more options?

The staff were really good to her, she felt like a superstar the whole time, I couldn't have been more impressed! Please let me know if you have any more questions, I'd be happy to help!

Thank you so much! I'm excited to review all of the great options royal Caribbean has for kids with celiac!

  2. Keep in mind that staterooms will not be available until around 1PM. Getting on the ship early will not help to get your kids settled in your stateroom, although you can get them fed!

Thank you-yes I've read that! Generally I just want to get them fed (daughter has food allergies so would like extra time to talk with head waiter/chef before ship gets super busy). Would also like to get them checked into kids club and get the lay of the land. So the earliest I'm allowed on is when I'll want to be there!

  3. Hi all! I'm new to family cruising (15 years since last cruise). We will be on the Oasis Western itinerary leaving from port Canaveral next May. As a frequent Vegas visitor, I have a gold card with Mlife. I've seen that Mlife gold members get various perks including "priority boarding." Can anyone tell me how this works? Do they board by zones, meaning this would be among the earlier zones boarding?

Our goal would be to get on the ship as early as possible to get our kids settled & fed. We will be driving to port Canaveral so we really can arrive as early as necessary to make this happen. What would be a good arrival time to get on the ship early without an inordinately long wait at the port?

Also any other tips on using the Mlife benefits appreciated! Thanks!

  4. Hi All! New to Cruise Critic (and family cruising) and have been reading up on all things Oasis, but I'm looking for a few specifics I can't seem to find. My wife & I will be traveling with our children who will be 5 and 3 on the Oasis Western itinerary next May. Our daughter has celiac disease so food research is very important to us! My questions:

    1) I've read that the windjammer has a gluten-free section, but we generally avoid buffets because of cross contamination. Do any of you have experiences with the GF section (good or bad) specific to kids? How extensive are the offerings on the gluten free section? Suitable for a 5 year old with 5 year old tastes?

    2) Any chance we would find gluten-free chicken tenders on board? We don't like her to eat fried food but we know they're a safe option if all else fails.

    3) We are in a Jr Suite so will have access to Coastal kitchen for dinner. Any experiences with gluten-free kids meals there? In general is this a good place for small kids or are we better sticking to main dining room?

    4) How about the main dining room for gluten-free kids meals? We are considering the my family time dining.

    5) Any other general advice for a child with Celiac on the ship? There is a lot of great info I've been able to find about general GF offerings but most of it has been from an adult's perspective, so any additional resources to look at this from a child's perspective would be appreciated.

Thank you to all of you who post here-I've found a wealth of info! And thank you in advance for any replies!
