  1. Good morning.........everyone is different........do you need special soles? I don't think so but I don't wear high heels anymore. I have worn plenty of wedges (not high ones). But as for needing a special sole? I have never needed them.

Hope you have a great cruise:)

As a special sole, I figured I might need a high heeled deck shoe, lol.

  2. Hi Gals (and Guys??): I hoping to join your Shoe Diva group. My dad was a shoemaker in Italy and even worked on the boots for the Italian climbing team that climbed K2 in 1954. Needless to say, I inherited his love of fine footwear. He's actually the only guy I know with a shoe closet. Anyhow, I have a shoe room with a couple floor to 6 foot shelving units built by my husband. Although I broke my ankle several years ago and had to have metal in it (which was then taken out 12 years later) I still like to wear heels. Depending on the day, I can sometimes wear the stilettos, but more often than not it's wedges or chunky heels these days. I'll post a photo or two when I find them in my files. I'm heading on a short cruise as part of a 3 week vacation in a couple weeks. Not sure what shoes to take as I want to look amazing for the formal night, but I also want to be able to move and not fall overboard, lol. Do I need any special soles on them?

  3. I'm 53 and hubby will be turning 60 next month. We are very active (hikers, canoeists, nordic and alpine skiers, snowshoers, etc) and will be taking our first cruise in 4 weeks (a 4 day Bahamas on RC). We are taking it because it's short notice cheap, lol. Anybody got suggestions for a cruise line that's not too pricey that has a modern music nightclub (I like conscious dancehall, house, and techno with a danceable beat, besides Latin rhythms and jazz & blues)? We don't want to get stuck in the nostalgia type of cruise where we get to hear only 50's to 80's music....

We're just not sure if cruising is our 'thing' since we regularly do some pretty major self directed adventure trips of 3 weeks to 5 weeks in foreign countries. Hubby doesn't work in the winter & that's my quieter work period when I can fit it into my schedule, too. That kind of limits our cruise destinations, I know.

  4. You can open your suitcases and put them under the bed that way, so they're only half as tall.

They wouldn't be 1/2 as tall as the zipper is located along one edge so that when open, they look like a box with a flap lid like this:

BTW, I'm not smuggling a friend in with us, lol.

  5. I wish I knew how tall the space under the beds is. Will our honkin' great suitcases fit - they are 11 inches deep. We are travelling for almost 4 weeks and doing everything from hiking through snow at Bryce Canyon to Vegas to Everglades/Ft. Lauderdale beaches and the mini cruise to the Bahamas is only 4 days so I know we don't need all those clothes. Our problem right now is what to do with those suitcases while we are cruising. Does anyone know of a hotel in the Port Canaveral Area that might store them for us if we are staying there for a few days when we return if the suitcases are too big. BTW our ship is RC Majesty.

Thanks for any insight, we haven't cruised before. This portion of our trip seems more fraught with anxiety that the 5 week trip for caving, hiking, and beaching in the Philippines that we planned out ourselves.

  6. DH & I both have lanyards for work items (keys, passes, etc) and our ski passes always go on a lanyard, so it's no big deal for on the ship except of course at the dinners, and when we go onshore. Just like at work, we take our stuff off when we have to head out of the office/worksite. I picked up a cute little lanyard with palm trees on it from the dollar store, it should be good enough.

  7. Since I started this thread on 2006, we have had lots of trips. Fortunately we did our third OAT-GCCL small boat Med cruise in June 2017 so I have fairly recent info. My GF drinks considerably more wine than I and considers the wines definitely drinkable although not Gran Cru. Wine, beer and soft drinks now included all day, not just at meals. ENJOY

    Thom

So can you tell me what all is included in the price of the trip? Obv. wine/beer/soft drinks, but what about the walking tours, shore excursions, etc. I am about to take my first cruise on a traditional ship to the Bahamas, and have put off cruising for over 20 years because I can't afford the interesting stuff like this (frankly I'm a bit scared of all the cheesiness of Caribbean/Alaskan cruising). Hubby is just turning 60 but has a very active job outdoors - up & down ladders all day, and I am 53 and work as a Security Officer and a volunteer with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. We are quite active and have travelled a lot to several countries as a couple doing our own thing. Sounds like the passengers on these trips have a 'wider world view' than the general US public :halo:... would OAT take other nationalities, and is there airfare included from somewhere in the US or just make your way to the embarcation point on your own?

Thanks, and I hope you are getting email notice about activity on this board lol.

  8. Ok obviously I've never been on a cruise before (booked a shorty in Dec) but what do you do with your SeaPass if you are in your swimsuit by the pool? Is it plastic, can it get wet w/o wrecking it? Most of my swimsuit coverups don't have pockets, I certainly don't want to tote around a purse with my wallet and stuff in it (or do I?)

Off ship in ports isn't a problem as I will just do what I normally do, take money, card, pass, etc in a small purse. It's the bizarre world of 'onboard' that I can't figure out. Probably the same reason I never went to a Club Med, because they are nothing like real life. I do have a waterproof diving pouch, maybe that's what I need to bring.
