Why is Horizon Court not wheelchair friendly? That doesn’t sound good. Please share what happened with the “Goat Rope-Total Disaster”.

We were hosting family for their first ever cruise-We are dedicated Princess folks so bragged about how much they were going to like the cruise. Unfortunately I suffered a major stroke three weeks before the cruise. Through hard work I was able join them. I was confined to a wheelchair with very limited mobility. MDR was never a problem-actually fantastic in their ability to find accessible seating. Horizon Court made it impossible for me to carry plate-DW carried the plate but not allowed to get near food. There was sign saying they would "plate food" for those that needed.-Never offered!! AS for The Salty Dog they messed up three of our orders and when they arrived  they were 30 minutes between different orders-A third was wrong when they arrived. Without notice they switched the wine myDW had ordered to a different red wine, The bar *Wheelhouse didn't have the specific wine DW ordered so they sent a different RED 😞

We were with another couple that had premier package with unlimited casual meals. The one night we went to Salty Dog with them was a total "goat rope-total disaster. Vines cheese board was pathetic leaving nothing for the one of us in a wheelchair since horizon court is not wheel chair friendly. Seemed like a waste-certainly not value added to package prices!

Ruby has two casual dining locations, that's all. Salty Dog Gastropub in the Wheelhouse Bar and Vines Wine Bar which has cold veggies and meats. I was on the Ruby b2b this spring. Tried the Gastropub. It's fine, fit my expectations and not too filling especially when you are on board a long time. I enjoyed the cream soup with sun dried tomatoes.  I did not try Vines, not something I would enjoy. The Ruby never had an Alfredo's. Alfredo's (Gigi's) is on every Royal Class ship except the Majestic, the new Sun and on the Grand and Sapphire. There is also a pop up Alfredo's on the Coral. It has not been removed from any ship.

  4. We just returned from a 16 day cruise on the Ruby Princes-Hawaii from Vancouver RT. Part our group purchased the top Package while others bought the standard $15 a day package. Both included at least two "casual dining options per person. Is it just me or are others having a difficult time finding "casual dining options that are usuable? (especially since Alfredo's has been taken off many ship. IMHO Salty Dog is not worth the time.

Thanks triple7tahoe for posting the coupons. I appreciate it. I do see there is an expiry date Dec 31,2023. Thank you.

Yes-I saw that as well but we used them in January/February in the Casino-That coupon said one per stateroom but we both were given the credit 🙂

Interesting the Chrome "blocked" the download.

As far as the coupons go:  the bottle of wine on the first night at a Specialty dining is nice, if you don't have a beverage package.  Standard, over priced wine.  The Casino Coupon is okay, but you have to spend/play out $20 first.  The rest are rather useless.  I tried to use the Portrait Studio coupon on my last voyage.  Not available...studio was closed.

You can share the coupons by first making a PDF file for them.  Then upload the PDF file.

We are looking at the same coupons, and I agree about the wine. Casino $10 after playing $20 worked for us (both) as I  look at the coupons, it does say only one casino coupon per stateroom.

The Crown has a really nice Zin for $15. Our hard liquor tastes run to Woodford bourbon, Grey Goose vodka and Sambucca all of which fit in plus

Do you happen to remember the Zin? My wife has found that most reds in the plus package are not very good and often pays to upgrade to Sergisio and Chronology. WE will taking relatives on an upcoming cruise to Hawaii and I keep telling my wife to let them make their own decision. As somebody said "Wine is subjective"

Do people actually complain to the Captain? Unbelievably rude!

We have found that no matter what table one gets assigned, there often is one person(couple) that think telling the officer they are sitting with all the things they have found wrong on the ship. Three or four of our last cruises we were fortunate enough to be sitting with the Captain and one those was a Captain we have known for 14+ years. He came by a couple of nights later to our dinner table (MDR) and we tried to apologize for one VERY loud couple that had been at the luncheon with us. He said that we would be surprised at the  number of folks that felt the luncheon was their opportunity to "vent". He told us he would see us in April on a Hawaii cruise; I will find out more then 🙂

  9. Next time any of you get invited to one of these, keep an eye on the Captain. Most of the other officers will not leave before he does, It is always a challenge to try and keep the Captain talking and look around the room to see the others who just might be squirming to get away. 🙂

    I'm pretty sure I knew that 😉

It looks like there are at least three groups on here 🙂 I was the one who suggested Marco Fortezze would be aboard for our RT Van/Hawaii cruise. Now I am as confused as the rest. When we were on the Sky with him recently, he told us (as he was leaving the ship), he would be seeing us on the Ruby-That he would join in SF on the way to Vancouver. At the time, I thought that was strange as he had been replacing Heiki Laakkonen on the Sky on a regular basis?

I am looking for a service that will transport my

Mobility Scooter (and myself) from the Ft. Lauderdale airport to Port Everglades.

Any information would be helpful and appreciated.

My scooter folds into the size of larger suitcase-I found UberX easily handled mine-Driver(s) also happily (?) loaded it for me 🙂

  12. I see some comments suggesting that the bar folks think some folks will steal the good glasses-While I am sure that none of us would, I do think there might be others who would-I saw one lady who had 4 rolls of the ship's toilet paper in her suitcase as she went through customs 🙂 ? On a serious note, we just got off the Emerald Princess after spending two weeks at Vines bar. Interesting to listen to our bar tender, Aldrin, tell us about how hard it was to get the good glasses back. We saw many folks come back with their glasses after "pinkie swearing" to return them.

Did you gate check or luggage check your scooter?

I gate checked. On outbound flight, my scooter was at the door when I got off plane. On return flight, they had me sit in first class and wait until the Captain saw scooter was off. Since my scooter is not auto unfolding I was afraid to hold up folks. On boarding they sent me down early and I was in my seat before others boarded. On return, I was so comfortable at unfolding it, I was out the door and on my way quicker than most behind me could get their bags down from overhead compartments.

Can you share details on the model? @triple7tahoe

I purchased an EV Transport (there are a couple of choices). Mine weighs around 45 pounds and folds to the size of medium to large suitcase. Mine cost was around $1200-A self folding model weighs slightly more and costs $200 more. After a couple of practice tries, I found it easy to fold. It does have a tendency to "high center" at the peak of the ramps when going ashore/returning at ports. I am able to stand and lift it slightly as I approach those and soon learned how to avoid the problem. I can give you purchaser source if desired.

    • Thanks 1
  15. I just bought my own scooter (airline friendly at 47 pounds) and took it on a recent trip. Flew to FLL and home from LAX with no problems. It fit easily in our standard cabin. Not sure of your needs but I would look into purchasing compared with on board lease.

I'm not updating the list, since lex Vulcan is now leaving.

    Alex

We were recently with Captain Marco Fortezze on the SKY. He left the same day we did 3 weeks ago and told us he would see us on the Ruby in April. He said he would be joining the ship in SF on the way to Vancouver and he would be Captain for our Hawaii cruise from Vancouver on April 14. I guess time will tell 🙂

  17. Not trying to be to far ahead but, if possible, would one of you PLEASE ask what expected load will be the next two weeks? THANKS.  I am guessing that these last couple of cruises have been full (especially with school break), hoping for a slightly smaller crowd. We were recently on an Australian cruise that was so crowded that it took forever to get bar service. Granted it was a short, 4 day booze cruise but even at the bars you could count on a 20-30 minute wait 😞

Hi neighbor! We have enjoyed such a glorious sunny December, here at the beach; Ocean Shores.  A few days ago, two very lucky tourists were able to save themselves from the King Tides. Enjoy your cruise!

One of my PAC 10 officiating buddies (recently passed away) had a place at Ocean Shores-We would use any excuse possible to visit him 🙂 Love that area and Washington after moving here from San Francisco , 4 years ago.

On P&O (UK) the top two tiers have a set number of nights for each of the two tiers relating to the last three years.  On top of this you need to have an overall number of nights sailed.  The latter relates to all tiers but the cut off date is quite a while back.

    Regards John

John. Thank you. From 1964 onward, we sailed quite a bit with P&O UK. When they took over Princess we had gone through many different clubs-I think the first was POSH which included a card including a boarding pass; I think that was followed by the Portunus club from which I have Ruby, Sapphire and one other membership. When P&O took over Princess they introduced a Cruisemasters club for Princess. I don't know if that took the place of levels for P&O,. I do know that I have many cards showing switching between Portunus Club levels and that when Princess introduced Captains Circle, we came in at Elite. Somewhere along the line Princess decided that those days didn't count and we lost almost 500 days for cruises taken on P&O after 2017?  For cruises taken out of Australia, they have decided not to count any previous P&O cruises. We always enjoyed PandO but recently felt P&O was just as happy not to have us YANKS aboard 🙂

Disney announced that to keep your status you will have to cruise every 5 years.  If that catches the wind I could see other cruise lines following suite, if only for upper tiers.  Alternatively, Princess continues to water down benefits, so that's another way for them to cut costs I suppose.

P&O (UK) also has a "must sail in X years" to maintain status-We have gone up and down may times I feel like I am constantly on a lift 🙂
