  1. Many will agree with that.

    Ā

Maybe some people need to be reminded that there are others less fortunate than them in order to help them appreciate what they apparently have.

    Ā

I know many military families, like mine, appreciate the low deposits!

  2. I know for me, a reduced deposit is a huge help.

    Ā

I am a single mom, putting one daughter through college and I have another son who is disabled so if I can get a $225 deposit versus a $750 deposit with a year to pay it off, thatā€™s a huge help for me.

    Ā

Please donā€™t feel the need to explain. That question should not have been asked by Keys2Heaven. It was rude and in poor taste and did nothing to add to the thread.

  3. I look at it like this - smokers that wish to smoke have very limited places to do it. So if I as a non smoker am taking up a spot (or two) and I have no intentions of smoking and a smoker is looking for a seat, then as common courtesy yes I should move. They werenā€™t asking her to vacate entirely, just to allow them to share what is a 2 person seat.

    Ā

The rest of the ship isnā€™t designated for only non smokers, so whether someone smokes as long as they donā€™t light up there is irrelevant. That being said, if anyone needed a place to sit and I was occupying a spot that was designed for 2, then they should be able to sit there as well.

    Ā

Iā€™m beginning to think that no matter how many ways or examples are given...the concept of ā€œcommon courtesyā€ is elusive for some. A cruise ship that has 3,000+ passengers, would be a much more fun and enjoyable experience for all if folks practiced kindness and common courtesy. It will be a long trying week if surrounded by mean people.

  4. Let's talk "dress code" for a minute. Formal night was very loosely translated for many of the people on board. It was translated into hats and basketball shorts. It was translated into t-shirts. It was translated into "my belt can't hold up these pants but I really don't care". Anyhoo, this could be a whole other post.

What a fab family pic! You guys look great! Enjoying your review :)

  5. So using your logic if you and 2 friends are sitting in the Lido buffet having lunch at a 4 person table, you are required to let any single cruiser to sit at your table. Not many people would agree with that.

    Ā

Not required but definitely the nice and courteous thing to do. I would also definitely offer for someone to join me if I had available seats. If I mistakenly sat down in the smokers section, I would have offered my spot and sat somewhere there is no smoke because A) I respect designated smoking areas and B) prefer not breathing 2nd hand smoke if I can help it. This thread shows that some people are courteous and some are not..just like in real life.

  6. What is discounted cruise cash.... sorry I never did thatšŸ¤·*ā™€ļø

    Ā

No problem :). I purchase discounted AARP cards which allow you to save 10 % (google aarp rewards). So you by a $100 aarp gift card for $90. You donā€™t have to be an aarp member. There are lots of CC threads on aarp rewards. Anyhoo...Then I purchase Cruise Cash through Carnivalā€™s fun shops using the aarp gift cards as payment. That way my S&S account is already funded before I step on the ship. Hope this makes sense!

  7. I had NO this happened, but found out it sure does this past weekend. Another heads up is we ended up purchasing a $500 gift card (not the electronic version) and the envelope came damaged with no card in it!!!!! Luckily UPS at our location received it hat way and will be sending info to AARP. We are out the gift card and the money until the investigation is complete. I will never do anything but e-gift cards in the future.

    Ā

So sorry this happened to you. I only ordered the physical gift cards one time and I worried so much about the scenario you described, I couldnā€™t sleep. I told myself never again and have only ordered e-cards since.

  8. We obviously need more smoking areas if people are hogging spots in the smoking section! #cigsinside

    Ā

As much as I canā€™t stand cigarette smoke, based on what Iā€™ve read in this thread, I would have to empathize with your sentiment. The last thing a nonsmoker wants is for smokers to smoke in undesignated areas. The least we nonsmokers can do is respect the few smoking areas and the smokers who are following the rules.

  9. When we had a couple months left to go before our cruise, one of the hardest parts about the wait was seeing everyone on here who was going on theirs much sooner. Time couldn't pass fast enough. Now that we're back, it's even harder to see everyone who will be going soon. :( Man, I need to win the lottery so we can cruise more.

    Ā

I know right! I remember when I first bought this cruise for my husband and the app showed 189 days to go. Now weā€™re down to 30 days and Iā€™m even more excited than I was back in November. Seriously, I could be packed in 10 minures :). BTW, I enjoyed reading your review! Hopefully there are many more cruises for us and our families!!!

  10. Thanks I read it also. Was afraid of that lol.

    Ā

No problem :). I feel strongly about my tea like many do about their coffee. At home, I pour hot water over my Indian tea or specialty chai teas, but from reading othersā€™ posts, it looks like the water may not be hot enough to brew properly. So Iā€™m out of luck for a week, LOL!

  11. what is "different" ? A lady comes up to me --I am laying on the loveseat..she wants to sit there with me..I say "no"..she said she wants to smoke and this is a smoking section..i tell her to go smoke elsewhere in a chair she can find (as this whole half is smoking according to her).

    Ā

I think you are the one trying to justify some point here. Neither one of us is going to change each others minds. Go ahead and give up your seat whenever you would like--and I will do as I did.

    Ā

We will both have nice cruises :)

    Ā

You are the one who described your post as different and you are the one who has changed your justifications as the converation continued. And yes, I stand by my point of mutual respect for smoking/nonsmoking areas.

  12. Not the poster but a fellow San Antonian. We drive a little further in the night before Galveston cruises. Usually all the way in into atleast League City, mainly because we worry about something going wrong. Traffic in Houston is the worst. It took us two hours to get across town once. And there's always construction on 45 into Galveston. It's best to try to do early mornings to get past the traffics, especially in the summer when so many Houstonians heading to the island

    Ā

Our TA advised that we stay in Pearland or League City the night before for the same reasons you gave. We have dealt with bad Houston traffic on many other occasions and didnā€™t want to take any chances. So we are going up the day before, hanging out at the galleria for lunch & a little shopping then going onto our hotel to relax.

  13. Since there were plenty of seats around that the smoker could have chosen I don't see an error on the PP's part. Even if all of the seats were taken I've smoked many cigarettes while standing (much to my sorrow).

    Ā

Based on how the PP has changed her story multiple times, I donā€™t believe her claim that there were available seats everywhere. I believe her first post and that she did not realize she was in the smoking section and rather than admit she was wrong, she has chosen to triple/quadruple down to justify her own chair hogging.

  14. My chair hogging story is a bit different.

    Ā

A few years ago on the breeze, a port day that I did not get off the ship. I went up to the floor above lido to get on of those love seat things to watch the movie that was on the big screen.

    Ā

I was laying on the love seat and a lady comes up and asks if I could sit up so she can sit on the loveseat too. I said "no, I am relaxing, this is a love seat and I don't even know you". She said "well this is the side people can smoke on and I need to sit down so I can smoke". '

    Ā

I was flabbergasted---I told her to go smoke somewhere else in a chair she can find (I am not a smoker and certainly didn't want to share a loveseat with a stranger AND a smoker at that).

    Ā

She continued to argue with me for a bit, I straight up told her to move along because I was not sharing the loveseat. She finally walked away in a huff.

    Ā

I am reposting your ā€œdifferentā€ chair hogging post because your subsequent posts/justifications are becoming more and more ā€œdifferentā€ from your original post. I stand by my belief in mutual respect: Nonsmokers should respect the smoking section. Smokers should respect the nonsmokers section.

  15. Let's flip it around. Someone who smokes should always give up their seat to a non-smoker when they are in any non-smoking area. That settles it!

    Ā

The smoker tried to engage in smoking, in an area meant for said action. Only to have a nonsmoker refuse to sit up, then proceed to complain about ā€œsmokeā€ and smokers. Thatā€™s what makes no sense. Then the OP justifies that there were plenty of places for said smoker to go smoke. Really? Based on her posts and others defending these actions, Iā€™m starting to better understand why smokers justify smoking in nonsmoking areas.
