  1. You just need to slow down and take a breath. How do you even know if you will like it? Some people take their first cruise and swear they will never do it again. It's not for everyone. Your "darling" son was in awe just like every other kid. Try one first and see if you even like it.

I cruised twice before the kids came but not with RC, with Star Cruises, an Asian cruise. I loved it. However, when the kids came, vacation was not in our plan till now when they are older and much easier to manage.

  2. Wait until you get on board! Disembarkation day will seem like the worst day of your life - «*What do you MEAN, I have to go home??!!*»

I don’t have to be on board to feel bad. I am already feeling upset just thinking about disembarking. It made me realise a 3-nights cruise is way too short. :(

  3. Help!!!

Is there a medication term given to someone who is overly obsessed with his or her cruise booking?

After my darling son looked at one of the cruise ship in awe when it was at dock that I decided to do a family first cruise vacation. I booked and fully paid for one for the school holiday in June 2018. Then I played around with the cruise planner and found some questions which I google around for some answer. Discovered cruise critic, read numerous posts in it. Went through wonderful cruise pictures, analysed cabins details, call RC up a few times to change cabins after realizing no 2 cabins are rated the same. Then discovered the meaning of OBC, and learnt about guaranteed cabin offer and with that, convince my whole family that I needed some time off away from him and the kids, booked another one which is sailing off in about a month time, at a fantastic price given that I was assigned a deck 9 balcony room.

Then, I read more posting by lovely people around the world. Learnt about the WOW sale which is going on in the US website and discovered that RC USA is much more flexible with their booking, so that lead me to a non-refundable booking for a 3rd Jan 2019 cruise. Praying nothing will turn up by then to prevent me from sailing off in peace

I thought everything will be settled but in the end I ended up keep reading every single new posting and searching for pictures and reviews of cabin rooms. Now, I am in the mist of thinking about a longer cruise duration like 14 days.

And I can't wait to sail off for my first cruise with RC.

    OMG!!! What has me become?

  4. There best sale was May 2014 for two weeks. Nothing like it since. There should be no charge to call and take advantage of this sale.

Thanks. After this WOW sale, any idea when would be the next sale period based on past history? The first time I booked a cruise without aware of such sale and ended up paying a premium while almost everyone was paying way much lesser. Learnt the hard way and this time round, I don’t want to be paying extra

  5. Sometimes you win and sometimes you don’t. A friend of mine’s cruise went down $820, but she was too late to get the discounted price. She wasn’t happy, but next time she may be the one getting the discount. Don’t let price control you, but always keep looking. I totally understand!!!

Thanks. We are still looking forward to our first cruise with RC. And yes, it is a nice Aft balcony cabin we have chosen. Just that I can't help feeling that little tinge of sadness.

  6. By the way, you can also use on board credit to purchase shore excursions. If they offer that rather than upgrading there are definitely uses for it! Or you could splurge on some specialty dining that you otherwise would have skipped.

Thanks. I have no intention to do any shore excursions as it is only a 3 nights cruise and I want more ship time as we are not keen on visiting the shore. Sadly, we are not into food. I am going with my sister and both of us suffer from a certain degree of food allergies. Drinks not our cup of tea either. We just want the ocean and so me time away from work and kids. Moreover, the OBC offered to us is nothing compared to the $$ we may have saved if we waited till last minute.

Well, I guess life is like that. Can't win all the time. Just want to share how we feel.

  7. There is no cash refund of the deposit.

Any change to the ship and/or sail date results in a $100 per person penalty, which is removed from your credit. Here is an example with easy number.

Cruise price is $2500 for 2 people (total). It had a $500 deposit.

It is before final payment, and you have already paid $1100 towards the cruise, leaving a balance of $1400.

    You cancel.

You get $600 back (what you paid over the deposit).

From your deposit, you get a $300 credit towards a future cruise, the other $200 is kept by RCL.

    Thanks

How about if I cancel way before first payment like when there is still many weeks more than 90days before departure? Do I still incur the $100 fine?

  8. Hi,

I read on the terms and condition saying that if we make changes on sail date or select new another ship, there is a service charge fee of $100 per person.

If we cancel the booking before payment date, we will not get back any deposit amount which is $100 per person but this will be converted to credit which is usable on our next booking.

So, if I need to change a sail date, then I simply cancel my current one. Incur the $100 credit and then make a new booking. Does this means using this method, no service charge fee?

    Thanks

  9. Seattle? Or does sea mean something else.

Don’t let it bother you. You KNOW, to the strongest degree one can, where your stateroom is. You had a price you were happy with, you have had it booked, no worries. People booking now and booking guarantee don’t have that peace.

Oops. SEA = South East Asia. I am from Singapore.

I am trying to think beyond the price tag and be happy. :*

  10. Do you ask those sitting around you on an airline how much each has paid for their seat...;):)

I am from SEA where price for air ticket usually goes rock high as date gets closer. The earlier you book, the cheapest it is. So from being excited about the cruise to a certain degree of sadness. This is my first RC cruise so was not very experience with the price culture.

  11. Just think, some of the cruisers around you could be paying a higher price for their stateroom. Enjoy your cruise.

Keep checking with RCCL to see if any Jr. Suites become available (for a low cost or no cost upgrade). A few years back, I called RCCL about 30 days prior to a Radiance 10 day cruise to upgrade from a Jr. Suite to a Grand Suite for a net total $40 additional cruise fare. I saw the availability and price on the RCCL web site (and I was on the phone within minutes). There was no availability of Grand Suites for at least 6 months prior to my upgrade.

Thanks. Exactly what I am doing everyday for now. Do you book on the US website?

  12. Hi,

I have booked my cruise vacation before final payment. After final payment, guarantee stateroom was opened for selection which was way much cheaper than what I had paid. I took the highest priced balcony. No option to upgrade as suite are fully sold. I don't need any OBC as I had fully paid for everything, wifi and gratuities. FYI, I don't mind random room assignment as I am not fussy if I can save that $$.

I consoled myself saying I get to choose the best balcony of all rooms but I just don't feel too happy if people around me is paying so much lesser.
