I expect you have many not even passengers on these Oasis sailings such as myself who are rooting for 5/5!!!
The ship leaving Freeport was the first hurdle. The second hurdle was how fast it could go, confirming or dispelling an Azipod problem, the third hurdle will be seeing if the damage is in line with what they expected once they get to Cadiz. If we are on it 5/5, all we be golden!

lol sounds like the difference between my husband and his sales guys for construction projects he's on - he likes to tell it as it is and be more fact based so when he says it will take 3 weeks he's already included probability of delays, knows the skills of who is working, etc. The sales guys like to keep promising the clients it should be done in 2. He finds clients prefer his method once they realize after a few rounds the sales guy blow more smoke than facts!
So long as the ship arrives in Barcelona on the 5th of May, its all good.

They are getting new bearing/seal cartridges before your cruise anyway, so no big deal.
I appreciate your wealth of knowledge and responses

Probably.
We are on the May 5th sailing. You are supposed to say: "working perfectly" lol

Yes, the AIS system relies on land based receiver stations, so once out of about 40 miles from a land based AIS station, marinetraffic will report it as "out of range" or just give the last received position. You can pay to "upgrade" to the satellite version, but this still gives only a couple of updates per day. If you think you know the approximate track of your ship, and how far it should have moved, there will sometimes be "shadow" blue arrows, which if you scroll over will say "passenger ship position received by satellite", and you can sometimes figure out which one is the ship you're trying to follow.
At 18.4 knots, do you think that all three pods are working properly?

The Koningsdam is leaving Port Evergades at 5:00 for Portugal. Maybe the Oasis will try to travel with her.
That would be a GOOD idea

Looks like Oasis is on the move. 0.1 knts
There IS a pilot boat and tug in front of Oasis right now

Does anyone know if she's taking the crane with her, or if they were able to get it off? Just curious...
I would guess they have been able to lift it off by now, but you never know - at least the lattice section of boom that was hanging over the port side surely will be gone by now.

I have found Marinetraffic forecast pretty good - her arriving in Cadiz is no longer the issue, finishing the work in the dock will be - not sure you'll get much in terms of confirmation on that before the end of the month.
I wonder if they will leave this late in the day or wait until daylight now?

Looks like they’re done loading the fuel. The bunker barge and tow tug are gone.
Now I just wish they would hurry up and leave. May 5th is fast approaching and the suspense is killing me!

Maybe they want to stay "close" to the islands for a couple of days to make sure everything is working properly rather than heading straight across.

If the emergency power source for the AIS is turned off for maintenance/testing, the AIS battery will fade eventually. And sometimes in shipyard the navigating officer will turn everything off on the bridge to prevent possible damage.
Thanks. And thanks for your ongoing good information and knowledge.

I’ve heard Sunday from somebody on board.
Does that someone on board have any up to date news as to what the actual (albeit unpublished) extent of the damage is?

The distance is 3716 nm, so at 20 knots it is 7 days, 18 hours, plus 5 hours of time change, so call it 8 days. At a fuel efficient 14 knots, it is 11 days, 1 hour + 5 or 11.5 days.
If Sunrise has left on sea trials (not in range of AIS anymore), unless there is a problem, there is no reason to pump the dock out again, so they may either dock her wet in the drydock, or at a layberth elsewhere in the yard for completion.
Would it be safe to assume that if it travels at a decent (on all three pods) speed, that the propulsion gear is fine and the only thing they have to do is repair the damage caused by the crane(s)?

AIS is lying, of that I can promise you
scheduled for sea trials the 15th - 18th
It has been showing up on AIS for weeks now though.

Likely AIS is switched off, actually surprised they left it on in dock. Last received position was 2 days ago.
All the other ships in Cadiz dockyard have their AIS on. Perhaps Carnival Sunshine turned it off so no one would know the progress of the work and if or when it left the dry dock?

Thanks. At least the news seems to be getting better!

AIS is showing that Carnival Sunrise has left the dry dock in Cadiz, maybe for sea trials? Does anyone have an update as to when Oasis will leave Freeport? - I understand it may take 12 days for the trip at full speed.

This is an amazing story. Please keep us up dated. Good Luck:p

Put hot water from the bathroom sink in the ice bucket!:D

Thank you

The Brilliance dosn't have one. It's a shame that the company that started web cams on ships only has two while most of the other cruise lines have them for all or most of their ships.
Hello RCI.
I agree with you, sometimes I really wonder what they are thinking:confused:

Excellent, thank you. We will keep our fingers crossed!
