  1. THANK YOU ALL for your useful insights on this topic, specially Heidi13 for your very knowledgeable input.

I come away thinking that booking on the Star will be a positive experience.  Yes, a stateroom could possibly have some minor issues but if the issues are promptly resolved, there really is no problem.

    Cheers !

  2. Hi THR,

I agree with previous posts, doesn't really matter. We were in 5054, on the port side and had lovely views of the Norwegian coast on a sea day. Otherwise, don't remember having the feeling that we had missed something.

Regarding London, you want to be outside on the main deck when the ship leaves port. The passage through the locks is pretty amazing. Have a great trip !

  3. Heidi13 and CDNPolar Thank you both for your input.

We were on the Star in December - this past - and we did not notice any detectable wear that was in need of repair.  Our cabin was in perfectly good shape, as were the dining rooms and all the common areas.

I feel like I was on a different ship to the reply above.  Perhaps they were unlucky with a badly abused stateroom.

  4. Hi all,

We sailed on the Star in 2017 and loved it. We are now considering another cruise in 2023 also on the Star. Can anyone tell me if the Star is now showing a lot of wear and tear ? Thanks.

  5. (Lofoton Islands) We had an overcast day, but I still wore a short sleeve t-shirt with my hooded fleece jacket and I was fine, taking off the jacket while on the bus. We went on the included tour again, and our first stop was a little fishing village area. I think that I will make it seem quite quaint with my selective photography. Our next stop was known be the most beautiful beach on the island. In sunny weather, that is likely true. It was a beautiful place, but made me wish that i had a camper so we could stay and hike the trails. We saw folks high up top of a peak and I'm sure that view from up there was amazing. The best parts for me were the needed WC (yay!), and the small herd of sheep grazing near the beach (cue the really adorable "baaaa"-s). One more beach stop, and the tour was complete. At this second beach there was a mama black sheep with 2 babies, one white and one black... I got a lot of photos of them.

Our guide passed a bag of the traditional local snack, dried fish (basically, fish jerky). It was smelly, but tasted pretty good. You probably get used to the smell, and it's likely healthier than chips. Note: I was happy to have my gloves for the 2 beach stops.

Minka thank you so much for your very informative inputs. We just boarded the Sky today in London and greatly appreciate your inside tips. Have a great continuation of your trip !

  6. (back to Bergen) A pleasant included tour in Bergen for the end of our pre-extension. Started at Gamile, a village of old Bergen - like a living museum with actors playing characters from the period. Lots of preserved houses/businesses with artifacts of a whole town. Then a trip to the fortress ( sorry name escapes me) to tour and to hear about an explosion that happened in Bergen. Learned a bunch about Bergen life, culture, and history. We boarded the Star about 1:30 and it was fast and easy. No waiting to board, no waiting for our room, and no waiting for our luggage. Checked out the room and went to the World Cafe for lunch. Good, no complaints.

    Hi Minka,

Thanks for your posts. As we'll be following in your footsteps (Into the M S London, July 7th) any hints that you have will be very welcomed.

Enjoy your time on the Star !

    Cheers !

  7. Last year we traveled twice to Canada. Upon leaving both Montreal and Calgary, after spending time beforehand in Canada, the customs that you had to clear were American customs, which they let you do in the Canadian border airports. Then when you land in the US (for us, it was Denver), you don't have to go through customs. We were at Montreal airport very early, and it was quite easy. Only waiting we had to do was for customs to actually open.

    Hi Aungrl,

    SantaFe1's info is correct.

I live in Montreal and would just like to point out that there is major construction works being done on some roads leading to the airport. My advise to you would be to make your way to the airport rather quickly. ;)

  8. Most of the included trips are bus tours, meaning you get in a bus, drive around, hear a little history, stop for a photo or two and come back to the ship. I personally haven’t heard any complaints.

    Russ

Just a quick thank you for this very informative thread. We're sailing this itinerary in 3 weeks and your posts are like a very tasty appetizer :)
