  1. I read, on some of the boards, from CAers that flaunting the dress code is a status symbol. It means there you’ve made the status of somebody or VIP and to important to be shown the door.

The ship always has those that attempt to flaunt the dress code rules. I’ll be aboard the Nautica in just over two weeks. Will be interesting to see if Ship management opts to enforce the dress codes or not.

That’s ridiculous. So the trick there would be to voice your displeasure to staff loud enough so that said VIP hears what a dick they are.

In any case Oceania is now 15 years old. They need to start modernizing for the next generation. The screechy violin music around the pool before noon just doesn’t cut it now.

  2. We prefer the Terraces which has excellent service, and similar if not the same menu options from day to day.

I agree if you prefer a dining experience with full sit-down service that the restaurant management should enforce the code they publish. Similarly not allowing sun bathers to run in to Horizons at Tea to grab some treats.

  3. We are with Mo on this one - it seemed a good idea to book in Canadian funds. I forget now what the exchange rate is, but it seemed reasonable.

What isn’t clear is if the quarterly conversion update results in a lower price that a booking can be updated to the lower price. I am assuming the guarantee applies.

  4. We have booked our last three cruises in CND. That way the price is the price. If we like it we book it. If not we don’t. I don’t wish to worry re currency fluctuations.

We pay on CND cc that includes insurance and health coverage as a bonus. And yes we have other coverage as well. But for the most part, we “self insure” and are waay ahead of the game there. Your mileage may vary.

What CC are you using for that coverage?

  5. I also posted this onTripAdvisor: I thought I would ask here as well since I am coming to French Polynesia for a cruise.

Those of you who have done this flight (LAX-PPT) what are your suggestions for a comfortable flight in economy class on Air Tahiti Nui. We are flying the red-eye both ways.

Based on your experience...I would like ideas on what to bring......comforts to put in my carry-on...toothbrush, eye mask, slippers, etc.....what did you bring or wish you would have brought. Thank you.

Air Tahiti provided a kit for everyone on the flight that included a mask, socks, blanket, headphones and a few other things. It was a comfortable flight even in the rear of the cabin.

There was good food and drink service.

It was a good experience overall. I can’t think of anything you would need.

  6. Canadian, and most non-US cruisers likely, have this additional currency conversion game to play to find the best price.

Oceania offers a choice to pay USD or CAD in my case.

I have heard rumours of some “at par” deals on July 1. That could TA deals though.

I’m wondering what strategy the hive mind here on the Oceania forum has for non-US bookings.

  7. While I am not a big fan of the MDR (for various reasons) and we take most of our meals elsewhere, I can only hope that I wind up in a nursing home that has a dinning room just like the one on the Riviera with food to match :D

BTW, I wish no worse for the Eloquence :)

    Ha, ha! True!

  8. I'm glad they are considering a Vista suite so they can get into the specialty restaurants as of ten as they wish because, imo, the GDR looks like a fancy catering hall. They'll certainly enjoy the four specialty restaurants though as the food is excellent, as is the service.

GDR reminds us of a retirement home dining room. We didn’t eat there much.

  9. That does sound disappointing. Look on the bright side - at least those men were wearing rubber thong sandals and not rubber thongs.

We noticed similarly at the 4 PM Tea in the Horizons Lounge that guests would show up in swimsuits and/or no shoes. In some cases staff approached them, but in call cases they let them in. Surprising.

  10. Hello...my parents do not cruise a lot but they have experienced Seabourn many times, Regent and Crystal. They want to escape the cold and I am looking into last minute cruise for them on Riviera. The have a hold on a Vista Suite but are hesitant to try Oceania. Can someone pleas tell me what I can relay to them as to what to expect? What is the daily dress on the ship, evenings? They are most likely Specialty Restaurant diners unless the MDR is really good. Thank you in advance for your input.

We spoke with many experienced cruisers on Rivieria in Dec that had also been on Reagent and Crystal. In most conversations they said Rivera and Oceania in general were better. Better in terms of food quality and overall service.

Dress is casual. Some wear jackets, more so in speciality restaurants.

I would not hesitate at all.

  11. Oh yes, I'm feeling much better about my options now. ;) Thanks for posting!

I should clarify this a bit. The list is for some simple substitutions. For example if you want a sandwich.

The chefs will modify just about any meal according to your allergy, given some advanced notice. They will even have GF goodies at Tea if you give them a heads up.

  12. Yes ORV....

Upon arriving in Papeete, guests without transfers can proceed to the cruise pier and drop off their checked luggage. Please note the cruise pier does not have any facilities or seating where you can wait until embarkation commences. We encourage you to contact your travel agent or Oceania Cruises to purchase airport to ship transfers in order to board the vessel according to the aforementioned embarkation times.Guests must retain their hand luggage as storage facilities are not available at the cruise pier.

I suspect they have no way of knowing at the airport if you purchased a transfer or not.

  13. We did this cruise in 2015. There is nowhere for your bags. It is not a cruise terminal like Miami. From what I experienced you can drop your bags starting around 11-12 when boarding is being organized. Be prepared to be outside, hot and wait a while. Or just chill in a bar somewhere until everyone else is finished rushing on to the ship.

Update: see cswhistler's post about Oceania having a drop at the airport when arriving on the Oceania charter flights.

  14. We arrived this way on an early flight couple of years ago and O had a truck at airport for everyone to leave their luggage on and it would be delivered to your stateroom. Great arrangement. You did not have to have the transfer arrangement from O.

We got a cab to downtown where the ship is docked and walked around, market is there as well but only accept their currency. If hot the breeze was nice by airport doors, where we sat to while some time away.

I didn't notice this last time. Makes sense since the flights were Oceania charters. Thanks for the heads up!
