  1. I was on the Summit recently and they were selling yellow emeralds. I love emeralds so I went to look at them. I had never heard of yellow ones before but these are from a mine in Brazil and are very new etc etc. Great deal according to the sales lady at a great price. She said they are not available many places yet but the owner of the mine has a contract with the cruise ship which I would think would mean the cruise line. I did not buy one - yellow is not really my colour. I was curious though about them and have not found much info since coming back. Has anyone bought one and what did your local jeweller say?

As an aside - did not really like the shops on the Summit. I think of all the ships we have been one - five - I liked this shopping the least and it is reflected in the fact we just bought two t-shirts from the sale table!

These are beryl and this supplier has given them a more prestigious name. Also have heard they are sold on Holland American ships so not just Celebrity brand. True that they are pretty stones, but way overpriced for what they are!

  2. Keith and others thanks for you input and advice. We just took the aerobus yesterday and got off at Universitat and it was a 3 minute walk to the Jazz. A lot of apprehension before hand but saw many others taking the aerobus at the airport so we hopped on and saved a good bit of money by doing so. It´s a breeze. Thangs again to my cc friends.

Oops- sorry D&N, I just saw your question... now that you have found the hotel I am glad it all worked out easily for you as it did for us. Just in case you still have to get back to the airport from Hotel Jazz, I wanted to tell you that the stop to catch the bus will be at Plaza Catalunya, not Universitat where you got off. We pulled our luggage a few blocks on a Sunday morning. It took less than 5 minutes and the stop is right across from the big department store El Corte Ingles. It really is easy and the aerobus is a wonderful system. Hope you enjoy your stay!

  3. We just used it pre and post cruise to get to/from Hotel Jazz. Excellent service, 5.30 euros pp each way, and very luggage-friendly . The platform to get on the bus lowers to street level so you simply roll your luggage onto the bus- no steps! From Placa Catalunya the A1 leaves every 5 minutes and the A2 every 10 minutes. Excellent system!

  4. Most of these are on the hump, but some are forward where the ship starts to indent. The rooms run the range from Category 2C, 1A, C1, or AQ (with the exception of 6209/6210 which are categorized as 07 Obstucted Balcony - great balcony at a small price!). There are also many cabins adjacent to the ones I listed that also have oversized balconies that are about double the size of normal ones, but I would go for the triple sized ones first

YOu made me so happyyyyy. We booked 6210 with speculation that it might have bigger balcony. 4 more weeks and I will confirm it.

How did you like 6210? noise, obstructed view... all good?

  5. Thanks again and glad your anniversary was so memorable!

Question about Dubrovnik: were the taxis going back to the ship easily available and were they the same price of 10 euros? With reference to the cable cars, was the entrance right when you get off the ship or would you need a taxi to get to the cable cars?

Herculaneum morning tour- any idea now?

Thank you again, and have a safe trip back home.

  6. 1601 and 1606 have slightly larger verandahs than 1603 [though it's still significantly oversized] and feature the bed adjacent to the balcony... 1603 features the bed adjacent to the bath/closet... I'm generally indifferent as to bed position--some are not--but would advise that I'd personally select a cabin with bed near the balcony if you plan to split the bed into twins [it becomes really tight in accessing the closet otherwise]...

Those AquaClass cabins on the angle near the mid-ships elevators are my personal favorites... I've sailed them four times--and have one booked for six future cruises [my personal favorites are 1605 and 1610 if available; those verandahs are even a bit larger than 1601/1606]...

Truth of the matter is that after considering what's important to you--port versus starboard, verandah size, bed position--you would be hard-pressed to fault the selection of any of the cabins you cited...

    Enjoy!

Do you really think 1605 and 1610 are even bigger balconies than 1601 and 1606? We tried counting the wooden slats and they seemed to be the same. Has anyone measured or been in both to compare?

  7. jspirt,

Just doubled checked it is cheaper with the cruise line even at per person. I would have thought not after you reminded me to check but it was not a big lot but any money saved on one cruise helps.

    Thanks again so much;)

    Marcy

You're welcome. Glad it will work out for you!

    What do you think?

After looking and price checking and talking with the cruise lines we can get the Courtyard Fort Lauderdale Airport & Cruise Port Hotel for less than hotel's website price & a little over 1/2 price for the Hyatt Place if we book with the cruise lines. Also it has free shuttle pickup at the airport and free shuttle to port everglades (tip driver of course).

We talked about the Hyatt Place you and others suggested because it looks so nice and near publix to pick up soda's but, since we are only going to be there for about

4 hours or less before bed time and then couple of hours before boarding shuttle to port we think the difference in price will save us money to spend elsewhere.

Hope you think this will be ok and work for us. Just hope that maybe we can find a mini mart near by for soda's before boarding ship. If not we will pick some up in first port.

We will be calling the cruise line back this week-end to add hotel but, would like your opinion on this as well. Just happen to think with the Holiday week-end you might be out and about and not be reading or posting to the boards. If that's the case we can wait and call them one day next week cause we still have plenty of time.

Thank you so much for your help and posting information on here for all of us cruisers.

Just want to mention that the cruiseline usually posts pre and post cruise hotel prices per person. Make sure you are comparing the right prices. The hotel website prices you see online are mostly per room, based on double occupancy.

  9. Mafiadon: From your photos of 7454 it appears that a big bonus over the regular cat 8 cabins are the additional windows. More views! Did you ever ask for a chair? Maybe by now there is a chair in the cabin. Otherwise, for those who watch tv, it would have to always be from the bed.

Did they have the lounge chairs already on the wrap balcony, or did you have to request those?

Thanks you so much for your input!

  10. I hope so. We are still waiting for someone to post pics of 7454. The poster of that first review said he would post his cabin pics more than a week ago, but hasn't yet.

    Check these out:

Post 370 on page 19 ... just a few pages back. The photos are posted but for some reason I also missed them the first time. Hope this helps!

Thanks to the OP who shared these photos of their cabin!!!

  11. These are pics posted by Mafiadon - no room for a couch on Deck 7 aft wraps - looks like you get a stool for the vanity area. No one has posted pics of the Deck 6 wraps. Someone said they had a couch, but I need to see pics to be a believer.

So difficult to tell from the photos. Is the deck 7 cat 9A cabin interior any larger than the regular Cat 8s? Did the poster say they were very happy in general with this cabin ? I wish I had a bit more information! Thanks!

  12. Thank you !!! Finally someone giving us more insight into these dang aft wrap cabins!

Sorry you were disappointed with yours on deck 8, but glad to hear you had a wonderful cruise otherwise!

Did you happen to get a look in the deck 7 aft wrap cabins? Just wondering if the interior layout is also so awkward and cramped. Definitley hoping it is more spacious than a regular cat 8 cabin since they are charging so much more for it!

    Thanks. Welcome home!

  13. Cabin 7282, loved it, and the configuration was - bed near balcony, sofa near bathroom.

    GB

We will be near there in a few months and wonder if you could tell us:

    1. was there a place outside the elevators where we could meet our roll call group for private excursions to walk off the ship together? Thought it was the Library but I see that is a few decks higher. Is it a reading room?

    2. Is there a door leading to the elevators and if so, does it close quietly on its own or do you hear it slamming each time someone goes through it?

    Thank you for your help!

  14. Deck - Sunrise

    Cabin # - 7223

    Class – 2B

Bed near?(balcony or bath) – balcony

    Quiet Cabin – very quiet

    Balcony View - Outstanding

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal

    Was wind a problem? No

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? N/A

Any specific problems with this cabin? None

Hallway noise at all, being behind the elevator? Do you recall if there was a stewards utility cabin nearby? Was the balcony view down completely unubstructed?

    Thanks!

  15. Did a quick Trip Advisor check and got the Grouse Inn or the North Vancouver for the same rate as the original booking BW. All include free parking and free continental breakfast. Would you recommend one over the other? Both 5 min. from a mall, and close to the ferry dock .

The Holiday Inn looks really nice but the cost is much higher with no breakfast included.

Must decide quickly as they are travelling next week!

Not many reviews oin the Grouse Inn. Have you seen it in person?

Thank you soooo much for your personal help!
