  1. That's what my husband's Merrells are like - I guess I wasn't clear so I'll find a photo ;-) He prefers to wear them with socks. I think it looks a little dorky but found him some low/ankle socks that we can compromise on ;-)

I think his are most like this (but, as they're a few years old, don't look exactly like this - his have more open between the crosses, more open than a mesh....) https://www.amazon.com/Merrell-Waterpro-Maipo-Watersport-Shoes/dp/B01N43L6MF/ref=sr_1_8?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1521747969&sr=1-8&nodeID=679304011&psd=1&refinements=p_89%3AMerrell

I was actually just looking at merrell shoes, and really like these, and they have great reviews. The ones you referenced are nice also! Think Im going to go with Merrell based on performance and great reviews. http://www.amazon.com/Merrell-Blaze-Sieve-Water-Black/dp/B00KZOCXQA/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

  2. Best to wear water shoes when you are actually going to be IN THE WATER. (y)

I think the idea is to have something that handles water as well as terain and sand and concrete or whatever else you wanna walk on. Not just for a cruise but for kayaking or fishing or any water sport where you may be in and out of the water a lot. No one wants to stop and change shoes each time lol

  3. Im a man looking for a good water shoe as I really have never owned a pair. Ill be cruising the bahamas and want something I will be comfortable it. Basically if I want to wear it to the pool or around the cruise ship I want it to work. But I also want to be able to go on excursions with them. To the beach, on atv rides, hikes, etc.....And I prefer to not wear socks with them so something that works with no socks. I like the look of the Merrell water shoes and sandals but with so many brands and prices i need some sugestions, thanks. Oh and lets be reasonable and stay under 100 lol

  4. I recently booked my first cruise for Dec 2019!! So far there is 6 of us going, 4 of them have cruised before but me and my g/f have not. I have been researching and planning and anticipating and watching videos like a crazy person lol. This cruise is a big deal to me and I need this amount of time to pay for it and also save the money for the trip to NYC and back to get on the boat. So for that reason Im happy I booked ahead. But also we got some good deals with NCL and we will have the booze package for free, no gratuity on the package so it really is Free! Also the gratuity for the whole cruise is included, and also we got to select a cabin we wanted and only paid 50 bucks down.

  5. Saw your other post. How are you arriving in New York? Are you just looking for a room for 1 night or several days to sightsee? What is your hotel budget? What exact date(s)? If you just need a room for one night chances are you can get 2 rooms in NJ for the cost of one room in NYC. There is lots of accessible public transit to get into NYC.

Hi, right now the plan is to arrive by Amtrak at Penn Station nyc. We only need 2 nights will arrive Saturday and Sail Monday. We are now looking in NJ, its much cheaper. Im not sure of transportation costs to get to manhattan other then I did see $9 for a ferry one way, and thats not terrible. I think a bus may be cheaper but more traffic.

  6. Anyone sailed out of Manhattan with a group of 6 adults or more? We are looking for ideas as far as lodging. Its not till Dec of 19 so plenty of time to think about it. I really cant even book that far ahead yet, but just want some input on hotels in the area that may have family rooms for 6 adults. Im not sure of budget yet as we have 6 people splitting the cost hopefully. The cheaper the better.

  7. Im dealing with the same planning at the moment! Im with a group of people sailing from NY in DEC of 19. So far i've found the best hotel rates are in NJ just aross the hudson. An idea is to stay near a ferry terminal and take a short cab ride then ferry into manhattan. From there it looks like there are bus routes from ferry terminal to port. Also another option im exploring is Airbnb. But I just found out that they are illegal in the city so look in nj for those also if you do.

  8. After some research I think we are leaning towards taking Amtrak. We live right between 2 stations about 50 mins away for both. And can be in NYC in 11 hours on the train. Looks like it will take us right to Penn Station in manhattan and we will just rent a airbnb for a couple nights and explore, then cruise and take amtrak back home.

  9. Need some ideas on getting 8 adults to port. Looking at an 8 hour drive from Ohio to NYC. We really dont want to fly. So im just wondering if anyone else has been through this or has some ideas. It looks like our best bet is to rent a passenger van like a Ford Transit 15 passenger, but this is going to be very expensive. Am I missing something, is there another vehicle or type of rental I can do thats cheaper? Thanks for any input!

  10. Price seems a bit high to me but it is a holiday sailing, i.e. New Year's.

It actually is a bit high as it is a Holiday cruise. I've been looking at some other cruises and can actually get a 11 day for cheaper then this in early December. Thinking of changing things up!

  11. First time cruiser myself! So far i've found it easier to just keep it simple. I called and booked with Norwegian, and Ralph was a tremendous help! Im sure anyone of the major cruise lines would be the same. I dont know if its easier to use a TA i've never used one. The less middle men the better imo. After booking i went to Norwegians website and created a user account using my booking number. On the website im able to further explore the ports and excursions, onboard activities, dining, and entertainment and such. Also this webiste has been a huge help with general questions! Lots of info here also when you just browse. Dont over think it, Just booke a date, and go have fun. Thats what im tryin to do lol

  12. So what would be some standard tips, say for the porters taking your bags at the terminal to start. Then for on the ship im confused, as my NCL cruise gratuities will be paid by me before I even cruise. I know I should probably tip the room steward for a job well done, but who else on board? And what kind of amounts are appropriate? I mean I like to tip but im not made of money. I usually tip 20 percent at least when i go out to eat. But for a cruise there is no real amount to base your tip on? Thanks for any input

  13. OP, it would be helpful to all and useful to you in identifying the embarkation port, ship and sailing - some of the ports/cruise terminals do it better & more organized than others. First & foremost, contact/notify/inform/work with NCL's Access Desk ahead of sailing.

It is to your advantage to plan to arrive early & check-in so that crew assigned for special duties can assist and do what they can for boarding help ... following Haven guests, once the ship is ready. There is usually a roped off, dedicated waiting area with seating set aside for Special Needs ... similar to what one might experience at the airport's boarding gates.

Some of the deck's specific corridor sections are rather narrow, especially when the Room Stewards have their service carts out there ... working, getting thru with a scooter and/or wheelchair do require a little logistics, using the recessed doorways. Mega-ships - the elevators are smaller but there are more of them to use ... it's typically jammed pack on turnaround days, if it is nearly empty - get in and ride up/down the other "direction" if necessary, or else, you can be waiting a long time.

Check most if not all of the heavier luggage with the porters outside but keep all essentials, medications, passports & travel documents, electronics & gadgets, wallets & purses, and at least one change of clothes as "carry-on" for easier boarding. Those ramps, depending on tides, can be long AND steep, not fun struggling with several "oversized" & heavy bags when someone in the party already faced other challenges.

(Someone on our last sailing "checked" a small bag with nebulizer & what not ... and it went AWOL/missing, all points bulletin was issued subsequently asking guests to help locate & return to Guest Services, no questions asked ... not sure if it was ever recovered & how the guests "managed" without the inhaling machine)

Thank you for your info. We will be sailing on the Getaway from port of New Orleans julia street terminal.
