I don't think so, the timing might be longer in the COVID era, but random amounts was the norm pre-COVID.

These are refunds not owed to me.  I did not request any refunds.  They are not taxes or purchases that are refunded when cruises are cancelled.  They started last fall.  So far, I'm ahead about $800.  Royal knows about it and agrees it's not right...it will take time.

  2. I am getting random refunds from Royal that does not match any down payments, purchases, cruise fares or taxes...I talked to Royal and they know about it...it's just going to take time...something is messed up.  It started last fall and is still going on.

  3. Just made final payment for our cruise with our TA.  Our TA sent an email stating Royal now treats FCC as a combination of deduction to the fare and payment to my account.

My statement from our TA shows two figures labeled "Travel Credit" and "Future Travel Credit".  The "Travel Credit" reduces our fare and the "Future Travel Credit" is subtracted from the total cost.

The sum of "Travel Credit" and "Future Travel Credit" exactly equals 125% of our cancelled cruise.

My question is...is there a downside to this?...in other words, do I lose anything if Royal has to cancel this upcoming cruise?...do I lose anything if I have to make a change?

Second and final question is...does anybody understand what is going on with Royal's refunds?...background with me includes random refunds that don't agree with taxes or excursions.  Most of our FCC's came through fine but I have two in limbo from last fall.

    Cheers

  4. Booked a cruise on Adventure for this June.  Does anybody know the procedure for entry into Bahamas?  I looked on the Royal web site and it gives a link to the CDC.  The CDC says: "Don't go a cruise ship".  Does Royal have a special way for plane travel for easy entry?

I stumbled across a six page "Bahamas Travel Health Visa" for each person that appears to allow entry.  Covid has made things a little more difficult.  Thanks.

  5. We sail a lot D+ on Royal and have only taken one cruise on Princess. We went to Alaska last year on Princess. Food was very good.

    Cost was good.

The room, junior suite, was great but the balcony was not so good. There was no covering over the balcony. Once we left the room, we were exposed to the elements.

The pool area had no heating or wind protection, therefore everyone that usually hung out at the pool area was crowded into the public areas making us think the ship was over packed. Our next trip to Alaska, no matter the cruise line, I want to find out if that ship has a pool covering...otherwise, you can consider the pool closed.

We will probably never sail Princess again because of the murder a few doors from our cabin. Princess, the captain, and the crew were top notch and did a wonderful job during a horrible time.

  6. We booked 1st class through Royal for a Venice to Florida flight for less than coach on Travelocity. I'll always look to them first.

I'll throw some dollars in about that. American Airlines wanted $2100 each from London to Texas...other sites were about the same.

Royal booked the exact same flight and same seats for $700 each. Heck,a round trip ticket was about $1600 each.

I like using Royal when booking one way international.

  7. I'm surprised Royal would issue such a statement: "Service animals that are formally trained and certified to perform a function are still welcome onboard with the proper paperwork and certifications.

The ADA clearly states: "Staff cannot ask about the person’s disability, require medical documentation, require a special identification card or training documentation for the dog, or ask that the dog demonstrate its ability to perform the work or task."

Royal can only ask if the animal is required because of a disability and what task does he perform. Liars are gonna lie.

I think Royal may be trying to curb the non service animals by putting this out and I hope it works.

  8. I can't figure out the "NEXT CRUISE" booking I made while cruising. I actually did three "NEXT CRUISE" bookings before I got around to using them (or tried).

I decided to apply one of them to a new cruise only to find out they disappeared from my dashboard. I sent an email to Royal and called them also. Royal was able to give me the "NEXT CRUISE" booking numbers but could not apply them to a new booking.

Royal suggested I try to book a cruise and look for a place to apply the numbers. I just haven't been able to make it happen.

Plus I get dumber every time I try to book a cruise. I'm trying to book this cruise and apply the "NEXT CRUISE" deposit ($200) to the cruise.

    Please...how does this work?

  9. Don't forget to mention you got a full refund

Are you sure? Does he have the money in his pocket? It was quite an effort on my part to get my $500 deposit back when Royal cancelled my cruise.

I waited for the refund and it never showed...so I called three different times. I got the same story each time: "sir you will get a certificate for $300 ($150 x 2). You lose $200 because it was a non refundable deposit."

Each time I explained Royal cancelled the cruise...not me. Each time I was told it would be straightened out.

Finally my refund was processed after I received two certificates for $150 each. I won't use the certificates because I did get my full refund.

Those refunds don't always automatically happen.

    Cheers:)

  10. What is important to one person isn't always important to another.

That being said, the flowrider is important to the OP. And even if the flowrider isn't important to me, it is an issue if problems aren't addressed in a timely manner.

The flowrider is not rocket repair and shouldn't be down for long periods. Its main mechanical components are pumps and piping...kinda simple once it's dialed in.

Royal has been running flowriders long enough to have the spare parts figured out. Sounds like someone dropped the ball.

  11. As the problem grows, more states are taking action by creating laws against "fake Service Animals". Here's what Petguide has to say on the subject:

Generally speaking, though, advocates for those with disabilities and service dogs have a long-term goal in mind–that of national certification and registry for legitimate service dogs.

Here are the 19 states that have laws that regarding fake service animals:

    • Florida
    • California
    • Colorado
    • Idaho
    • Kansas
    • Maine
    • Michigan
    • Missouri
    • Nebraska
    • Nevada
    • New Hampshire
    • New Jersey
    • New Mexico
    • New York
    • North Carolina
    • Texas
    • Utah
    • Virginia
    • Washington

  12. It doesn't matter what is written. It doesn't matter what is said. Royal allows pets onboard.

If that is true, then Royal has erred or the owner has lied.

Royal cannot require any documentation proving an animal is a service animal. They can only ask...period.

If people are willing to lie, Royal can't do anything...zero..

    The ADA is clear.

  13. Oh but they do

The folks letting them on the ship may be in error. I have never seen anything from Royal that says ESA can board the ship.

The ADA is very clear about NOT protecting ESA...only service animals:

Q3. Are emotional support, therapy, comfort, or companion animals considered service animals under the ADA?

    A. No. These terms are used to describe animals that provide comfort just by being with a person. Because they have not been trained to perform a specific job or task, they do not qualify as service animals under the ADA. However, some State or local governments have laws that allow people to take emotional support animals into public places. You may check with your State and local government agencies to find out about these laws.

Q4. If someone's dog calms them when having an anxiety attack, does this qualify it as a service animal?

    A. It depends. The ADA makes a distinction between psychiatric service animals and emotional support animals. If the dog has been trained to sense that an anxiety attack is about to happen and take a specific action to help avoid the attack or lessen its impact, that would qualify as a service animal. However, if the dog's mere presence provides comfort, that would not be considered a service animal under the ADA.

    https://www.ada.gov/regs2010/service_animal_qa.html

Royal can change their policy to allow cats with roller skates to board if they want to, but right now, they only allow Service Dogs.

  14. I'm sorry to say nothing RCCL can do about this. The federal law in the United States is very clear. The cruise line or business cannot even ask the reason for the animal. It is not just Cruise lines same thing happens on Airplanes. I have a friend here, another American, who loves Standard Poodles, comes from a very wealthy New York Family. No health or mental issues, but plays the system. His dogs travel on the Airplane with him in the cabin.

He purchased a new puppy two years ago, from the top breeder in North America, but had the correct paperwork saying it was a service dog. Which here in the Philippines means go to the doctor pay a office fee and get the letter. With this letter he was able to travel with the dog in the cabin for the flight and no one could question anything.

The airlines are starting to catch on now.

To travel with an emotional support or psychiatric service animal, passengers must upload the required documentation at least 48 hours before a flight.

To travel with an emotional support animal, passengers must:

    • Download and fill out the required Emotional Support or Psychiatric Service Animal PDF. You may submit a copy of vaccination records in lieu of the Veterinary Health Form as long as the vaccination dates and veterinary office information are included.
    • Upload it to My Trips through the Accessibility Service Request Form
    • Keep completed paperwork with you while traveling

    https://www.delta.com/content/www/en_US/traveling-with-us/special-travel-needs/service-animals.html

    And furthermore:

Delta said the idea behind the new regulations is to keep trained service animals and emotional-support animals safe from aggressive ones. Overall, the airline says it carries 700 service or support animals every day. But people have tried to fly with everything from turkeys, to snakes, spiders and even gliding possums, which are also known as sugar gliders.

Since 2016, the company reported an 86-percent increase in 'animal incidents', that include animals urinating, biting or showing acts of aggression. Last June, a 70-pound dog flying as a support animal bit another passenger several times in the face on a Delta plane in Atlanta. The victim was hospitalized.

  15. Correct me if I'm wrong, I think Royal only allows service animals...period.

Emotional support animals are not classified as service animals under the ADA (I think).

So...I'm thinking the only animals to be seen on Royal would be service animals unless someone lied.

I would think Royal has a general policy somewhere that states lying is not acceptable with them.

That would mean a person would risk getting kicked off the ship.

  16. And what about those that have an allergy to cats :loudcry:

Cats are a problem but dogs also create pet dander (as do most pets). I see people with oxygen on most every cruise. Dander poses the biggest risk to people with lung issues.

As far as special animal cleaning of cabins, Royal does not require passengers to pay a special cleaning fee unless the pet causes damages.

    From Royal's web:

Guests are responsible for the behavior or damage caused by their service dog. A cleaning fee may be charged to the guest's shipboard account.

People needing service animals certainly are permitted to bring them on board, but in that same light other passengers should not be put at risk...example: if the pet sleeps in the bed and the bedding is not cleaned.

Royal does not require proof of any kind. From Royal's web:

Evidence that a dog is a service dog is helpful but not required (such as identification cards, other written documentation, presence of harnesses and/or tags or the credible verbal assurance of the person with a disability using the dog).
