  1. I am curious what the current situation is on any quarantined decks on the Majestic. In particular, the status of the aft facing cabins on the Dolphin deck, as we are booked in one for late March. I do realize that the status could certainly change between now and then. Appreciate any intel that you can offer on this. Thank you in advance...Enjoy your cruise.

  2. Just to put a bow on a few more berth 46 questions from the OP.  When we went through in 2015, restrooms (potra-potties) and water stations were available. There was no lounge. As far as ADA accessible, that is required of course. If you are in a private vehicle, you can drop your luggage off, go park at 92/93, and shuttle back. Cabs, ride-shares and busses do have access.

Per the World Cruise Center schedule, berth 46 is being used today (February 12th) by Oceania. That is it for any dress rehearsals before the Discovery on March 27th.

    Hope that this helps...

Berth 93 is deep and long enough for Royal Class ships.

We have used pier 46 for disembarkation. No lounge. The tent in the photos is for customs. You will catch a bus to the airport, or to Berth 93, where our pickup was. I saw shuttles and Uber cars, but the whole system was a mess. How it is now, I don't know. It took us 90 minutes to 2 hours to get a bus. It's too far to walk dragging luggage except for the very athletic. Good luck.

Never heard of it? If you're a history person, Pier 46 was the site of the SS Saninena going up in Dec. of 1976. I heard it go off 30 miles north in Glendale while attending a Christmas party.  I think it broke every window in San Pedro.

We used berth 46 in 2015 for our embarkation on the Jewel of the Seas. As has already been said, it was just that big ol' tent and nothing else. I dropped my wife off near the tent with our luggage, then returned to the berths 92/93 parking area and caught a shuttle back to 46. Inconvenient to be sure, but not terribly so. I cannot speak to disembarkation at berth 46, as we docked at berth 92 upon our return.

We are on the March 27th sailing of the Discovery. I am thinking that because this is the inaugural cruise, and there will be no disembarking passengers, embarkation might go fairly quickly, especially if Princess is still at reduced capacity. Disembarkation will be a whole other adventure. Google maps has the distance from berths 46 to 92/93 as 2.1 miles. About a 35 to 45 minute walk, depending on ability. Pretty sure that is a deal breaker the Mrs., especially pulling luggage.  We shall see how it all unfolds.

Very interesting history indeed at berth 46. That night in 1976, when the SS Sansinena blew up, we were about 10 miles away and heard the explosion. After seeing the glowing smoke in the night sky, we did the cutting edge thing at the time, and tuned in to the local all news A.M. radio station for information. We took the drive into San Pedro and indeed, every window on Gaffey street, among others, was blown out. LAPD and county Sheriffs were already out in force at every intersection. A very surreal scene.

  4. Yes, you can turn your OBC into cash via the casino.

Using a slot machine, you can charge an amount equal to your OBC on to your folio. Play a hand or two (or not). Then load your money back on to your card. Go to the casino cage, cash out, and you have turned turn your OBC into folding money.

  5. Well, we just received our "emergency notification" regarding the latest updates on the Covid roulette wheel. What a disappointment. As being fully vaccinated, we were looking forward to sailing on a fully vaccinated ship and enjoying normal, i.e. no masks etc.

I'll be calling my T.A. tomorrow to push our three 2021 cruises well into 2022. Hopefully the Omega variant won't screw those up.

  7. I received notice from my TA this evening that our August 7th 2021 cruise on the Crown has been changed to the Ruby. I verified it on on my Princess account. Same cabin, pricing, credits, and even the casino play is intact. We have previously sailed on both ships. We liked them both. Save for a specialty restaurant (Sabatini's vs Share), they are virtually identical, so it does not seem like an inconvenience at all.

When the Crown itineraries where initially announced for next spring/summer, there was some Princess fanfare to go with it. So much for that. I did not do any digging to see where the Crown will be during the time period that it was supposed to sail out of L.A.

Lots of moving parts are in play to restart the cruise industry. What a logistical nightmare. Hoping that this sailing will launch. It is the next one on the books for us after so many dashed hopes.

We received everything owed, which was substantial.  However, the future cruise credits that we received, which was a huge amount, was under our fcc section up until today.  I found 0.00 left.  As I had not applied them or even one of them, I found that they applied it not to our next cruise, in October, but instead to next March.  That would not have been our choice to use, as we have 4 b2bs, and wanted the chance to apply it to the 29 day trans Pacific.  I think it should have been made clear should you choose Op 2 to apply to the cruise of your choice.  However, I think the fact they did not choose to apply it to a 35 day cruise in Oct 2020 means it is a no go and will be cancelled.

We received our FCC on April 9th. We could see it in our Captain's Circle account. Then, a few days later,  Princess randomly assigned the full FCC to a future booking. I called Princess to have them remove the FCC from that future booking. The FCC was placed back into our FCC account, where it still awaits our choice on where and when to use it, from now through May 2022.

    Hope this helps.

  9. My refund was posted to my credit card account this morning. I was refunded my base fare, port fees & taxes, PVP,  and prepaid shore excursions.  I am still owed for my now expired FCD's and for a prepaid specialty dinner reservation.

On March 12th, I chose refund option 2 for a scheduled March 15th Panama Canal sailing on the Emerald. My 100% FCC posted to my Captain's Circle account back on April 9th.

I had not filed a credit card dispute, although I was considering doing so in the next week or two.

A very interesting and potentially damning article. It does however have the benefit of clear hindsight. The cruise industry was responding and reacting in real time to an issue that was not fully appreciated in the moment. As an example of that lack of appreciation; a quote from no less a world expert than Dr. Fauci (which curiously was not included in the referenced article) who stated on March 9th: “If you are a healthy young person, there is no reason if you want to go on a cruise ship, go on a cruise ship.”  He did however warn away older people or those with underlying conditions in the same response. Talk about a mixed message.

  13. As mentioned, we did receive our FCC into our account and our cruise history has been reset. What I did not mention was that  there has been no FCD posted back to our account as of yet. Curious if they will place the FCD's back into our Captain's Circle account or if they will refund them along with the other items due.

  14. A lot of upward movement on Carnival stock prices this morning. News today of a recent huge bet on Carnival stock. An informative article on Barrons' website today:

I am considering buying more shares, but as an avid cruiser, I am emotionally invested. So since I am not a financial advisor, I am running the idea by mine. At the end of the day, its gambling.
