You know, I've gone from YOW to the United States through YYZ with Air Canada at least a dozen times over the last eight months and never had a problem with luggage or CBP.  By all means, get some airtags but I doubt you'll need them.

We'll be heading to Israel in 2024 so I was going to get them anyway.

Just unselect the free at sea items and it'll reduce your price. I don't select the drink package and that reduces my total. It's technically not "free at sea".

Only the drink package and the specialty dining wll cost you anything, but the specialty dining won't cost you much at all!

Nope.  Once you've gone through CBP pre-clearance in Toronto (YYZ), that's it.  When you arrive in Boston, it will be just like a domestic flight.... just head to the luggage carousel, get your bags (if they arrive) and keep moving.

Yeah, it does scare me about the luggage going through Toronto - I've heard it's a luggage black hole!   I think Apple Airtags may be in order.  We have another 9 days after this flight before we are home and we will certainly need our luggage!

Let's be careful with the terminology.

There is a difference between "checked through to your final destination" and "you don't have to reclaim your luggage".  At all USA airports where you pass through immigration and customs, you are required to reclaim your luggage and pass through customs.  This is even if the bag is "checked through" - which I assume means that it has a baggage tag labeled with the final destination.

Now there are different procedures at the USA preclearance facilities in Canada, so no blanket generalization can be accurately made.

So this sounds like it's a pre-clearance at YYZ, but real US Customs at Boston Logan.  Both flights are Air Canada

The benefit is not limited to $50 per port (for the first passenger on the reservation, or passengers 1 & 2 if FAS+ is purchased).  If passengers select several excursions at a port that do not over-lap timing in port, then eligible passenger(s), may take as many excursions with the discount applied to each (again, 1st passenger ...in most cases) as time allows.

An example might be: At GSC you book a Villa, but also wish to zip-line, and take a boat excursion.

All are bookable with the $50 discount as long as the timing between zipline and boat have a bif enough time span.

    I hope this helped!

    Good to know!

If you included the free at sea, you will get a $50 discount at each port (that's for the first person on the reservation.

Is it really $50 at each port?  I know it used to be but it shows on our reservation differently than it used to.  But we also never used it before and will most likely do so for the September cruise.

You ought to be at YQB about 0330.

You will clear US CBP (Immigration and Customs) in YYZ.

Nothing unusual about what you can carry with you.

Our layover is an hour and 20 minutes - should that be enough time?  Supposed to get there at 6:50am.  And we'd have to collect our luggage to go through, right?

  8. We don't get out much, obviously.  We've flown INTO Canada, but never out of it.  We are booked on a flight from Quebec City (YQB) to Boston Logan (BOS) and changing planes in Toronto ((YYZ).

First question: flight is at 5am on a Friday morning, what time do we need to be at the airport?

Second:We will have gone through customs getting off the ship, but will we go through again at YQB or YYZ, or not untl US customs at BOS?

Anything else we should know flying from CA that might be unusual to US citizens?  I do know that they will check for the liquids, etc at YYZ before boarding to Boston to meet US requirements but did I miss something else?

    Thanks!

  9. There used to be a thread about where everyone was - is that not allowed anymore?  We're cruising in September on the Joy, but most of the people I've known over the years are gone - either from ships, one on a different line, and one I know passed away from brain cancer.

We did have three (I think) sushi rolls, but we tried all the other food too. Lots of options, so definitely still be sure to try out Food Republic. It's really great even if you don't want sushi. IF you don't like fish (my husband) you can customize the sushi by only getting shrimp and no tuna on some of the rolls. At least, we were able to. Hopefully you can too!

I love/like a lot of fish.  The seaweed wrapper is what I absolutely HATE!!!!!

Try Food Republic if that is cuisine you like.  It’s more casual but great food.  Take a look at their menu.  You get 4 items per person and it’s a lot of food.  The sushi rolls were good.  But two things I loved were the Firecracker Shrimp (simple, but basically fresh shrimp elongated in a fried wonton wrapper) with sweet Thai chili sauce, and I really really liked the flavor of the Shitake & water Chestnut Dumplings…amazing flavor blend.  Bon appetite 😋

Not a sushi person at all, but the firecracker shrimp sounds like it's right up my alley.

I ❤️ crème brûlée too!!  We have only cruised post Covid but it’s been on the menu since at least  Oct. 2021.  I thought the Ile Flontante in LeBistro was very similar to a crème brûlée only lighter.  It had a crunchy top and a creamy meringue below it.  You should try that if you can.

Oh that looks like something I should definitely try.

@GORDONCHICK @frayedend @UKstages @cruiseny4life  calling all true NY style cheesecake lovers.  If you haven’t tried the OMG Butterscotch Cheesecake in Cagney’s…you must!!  Also Onda ricotta cheesecake is good…but not nearly as good as Cagney’s…IMO.

Is this a newish dessert in Cagney's?  I love both butterscotch and caramel so it's definitely something I'd try but I don't know if I could skip creme brulee.  And being diabetic, I certainly can't have both!

    My favorites are:

    Apps

Ocean Blue- scallop and pork belly

    Onda- grilled octopus

    Mains

    Le Bistro- duck

    Haven- pork chop

    La Cucina- Osso Bucco

    Desserts

    Haven- banana bonnoffee

    Cagneys- creme brulee

Also, our last 2 cruises(Encore and Escape) the french onion soup in Le Bistro has been very disappointing.  It was always a go to for us.  Not anymore though.  Extremely salty with very little onion and a raw wine taste both times.

The duck was amazing the first time I had it but not as much since then so I hesitate to order it again.  Though it's been 5 years since I've had it.
