The interesting thing (to me, at least) is how is this show is changing my feelings about cruising. While most have been commenting about how much they’re missing it, I have not been, because I haven’t been. I miss traveling desperately, I miss being Different places, but I have not been missing at cruising at all. I think Princess and I are kind of on the outs right now, like we’ve had a little tiff and aren’t speaking.

Funny thing! AND I DO NOT WANT TO START A FOOD THREAD!!! Just about the time I became elite, the food oboard went downhill in a big way for me. I decided I needed to try other cruise lines...but this series has helped smoothed some of my opinions too.

Thanks so much for posting this information.  My sister and I have just started watching and are really enjoying it.  We have never sailed on Princess, but are booked for a Sydney to Seattle cruise on the Regal April 2021.  It has been great getting to see the ship during the episodes.  My sis worked for Royal Caribbean for a couple years so it is bringing back memories for her watching what goes on with the crew behind the scenes, especially the turn-around days which were the busiest for the most of the crew.

You will have an excellent time! Enjoy the tv series, originally it was not shown in the United states, so when I saw they were on YouTube, I immediately created the free time to watch every one. Lol

I have also enjoyed watching The Cruise as it is a reminder of some of our past cruises. We have sailed with Captain Perrin and we were looking forward to a cruise on the Sky Princess with Captain Tuvo (Captain Bye-Bye !). We have recently  cancelled that cruise. Watching him on an Alaskan cruise will have to suffice for now.

In reply to the poster that mentioned that not a lot of air time was given to the buffet or other food venues, I agree with another poster who mentioned that the bars are more of the money makers for Princess as opposed to the buffets.

This may be cynical on my part, but thinking about the show, there seem to be other money-making venues highlighted in the the various series.

I recall a gathering of passengers in a large suite,a vow renewal for 50th wedding anniversary, a Chef’s Table dinner, a wedding and various excursions that involved Timothy going on them to rate their value. All these experiences come with a relatively high cost to the passengers and profit for Princess.

           Just my two cents.

I only mentioned that because, If you are going to have a series about ship life, food would be the biggest of all activities. In the end, most of us are all seasoned cruisers and have a pretty good idea the amount of work involved.

I have just finished season 3.  At the end of season 2 Timothy went home and wasn't sure he would sign another contract.  I guess he came back to the Royal as he is in season 3 but Emma, his friend, isn't there.  Someone earlier in this thread said he isn't in season 6.  I'm really enjoying it.

It is a fun series to watch. Those of us that have been on the "Ultimate Ships Tour" are familiar with more of the ships insides than is shown in this series. They never show the main food storage, defrost rooms, and food prep areas.

This thread is about the cruise TV series there are lots about refunds, let’s try not make this about refunds too.😳😳

Speaking of the tv series, did anyone else notice that the buffets got very little screen time overall?  And for the variety of MDR menus, specialty restaurants and other food venues, food in general was just a passing image. I wonder why?

Thanks. I am in the middle of season 3 and can’t get enough. It really helps pass the time but also makes me sad thinking we might never have that again.

When cruise lines start to sail again, whenever that is, I think the experience is going to be so different that everyone will complain. Too many rules, too many stay safe reminders, too many long lines with separation, everything is slower and the ship feels like a floating hospital. After my 16 cruises, I think I have some of the best memories I will get. Things they are a changing.

Yes. The Daily Princess Platter alerted passengers to the filming in case anyone did not want to be filmed. The camera crew were very discreet and would always ask passengers if they were happy to be in shot.

when I found out we were on TV I took great delight in telling Len Goodman (DWTS)

that one of the moves he taught us had been aired.

That was thoughtful of the film crew, since people were on vacation and probably had no idea when the booked the cruise.

If you watch the last episode of series three aboard Royal Princess you will see me and the wife dancing during a dance class in the atrium (blink and you'll miss it moment!). August 2016

I really like Cpt Nick Nash, we have had him on several cruises. Did you know at the time a tv series was being filmed?

  8. As far as dining, while staying in San Pedro, I highly recommend "Raffaello Ristorante". Every time we drive down from the Bay Area for a cruise, we eat there. Just check out the google reviews. Be careful, the portions are enormous!

What if they are like me and don't like Veal? Sure wouldn't be to die for.😀

You will spend the entire cruise looking for the veal in the ravioli, I think they use veal stock for the sauce.

I know many who would disagree the food is good at the buffet, myself included.  But then again, food is so very subjective.

The most overused word on this website "subjective" Princess has one or two really good items, but the rest are truly just average. There is not one restaurant in any city trying to replicate Princess food and stay in business. My 5 cents!

  10. Well no, not 3 but two. I was on the Royal 10 day cruise Oct 4th-14, 2019. You may remember these from your trip, but there were at least 4 and sometimes 6 "Cabo" tenders in addition to the Royals tenders. The marina dock is small for even one ship so I imagine with 3 ships there will be lines and more lines. The Royal is a big ship so we traveled back and forth during non peak times and it was very doable.

Just take lots of patience with you and have a fantastic time. Or stay on the ship this time and watch the madness from deck 16!

  11. Thanks for the review.

I was on the same cruise, first time on the Royal and also my first cruise as Elite. I thought the ship was beautiful. I was getting very use to the grand and crown class ships, so it was time for something new. My cabin was C619 and since we pretty much hung out between the atrium and the aft, this cabin was fairly central for us.

I have always felt Princess is very hit and miss on food (taste, warmth, selection) and the Royal buffet did not disappoint. Corned beef hash, fake scrambled eggs, cold sticky sausage, overcooked oatmeal and old cold toast at breakfast was the rock bottom for me.

The single most disappointing major food item onboard is the 10oz strip steak at Sabatini’s. I was served the toughest piece of beef I have ever had in my life. The plate was just awful looking as well. White beens under a tough chunk of steak with a bland gravy poured over it. It literally looked like a main dining room item. My waiter quickly exchanged it for the veal shank but honestly, neither was a 29.00 cover charge meal. I did love the Calamari appetizer though and desert was good.

The veal raviolis “Agnolotti Gratinati alla Piemontese” at Alfredo’s was one of the best items on board for me. Not to mention of course, all the “Chocolate Journey” special deserts.

The crew was great! Embarkation was the quickest I’ve ever experienced.

My only other minor complaints are the tv in our cabin was real dusty on the back and you could see it walking by and the sofa cushions in the cabin couch are angled forward (due to the folding bed inside) so you slide off. We never could sit there.

Overall a good cruise, but the most mediocre vegas buffet is much better than a Princess buffet.
