I certainly agree about the food.  We have sailed at least 20 times on Princess and this was the first time we thought the food was horrible.  Lamb and/or veal EVERYDAY.   Just steamed veggies.  No variety at all.  the only good thing about the food was the desserts.

I just got off the Emerald 2 days ago (my 15th Princess cruise) and it was by far the worst overall collection of food and menu items, I have ever seen on Princess. (and I was already use to the subjective "just average" food you'd expect on princess)

Once we realized the food was way off, we just laid low and listened to others talk about the food as we shared tables in the MDR. The unanimous dissatisfaction for the taste and quality was shocking. Cold plates and luke warm food, gooey warm butter on tables, no ice in water glasses at second seating, warm deserts, watery salads, flavorless sauces and dry overcooked veal scallopini.  The food was even worse in the buffet, so we never ate there a second time in 15 days.

Just got back from a 15 day Hawaii cruise out of Los Angeles and found it lacking in what a 4 Star

    cruise line should be.

The food was HOSPITAL QUALITY bland and poorly prepared.

Having cruised over 20 times in last 6 years, I have had many experiences, I know food, as a writer

for a food magazine, and some of the culinary disasters were unforgivable. Below is Main Dining Room or Crown Grill

    • pineapple salsa was catsup, horseradish and a small chunk of pineapple
    • plain white rice as a side dish
    • Steak Tartare served cooked (that is a crime) Crown Grill
    • vegetables either served mushy or almost raw
    • a mashed potato ball that was dry and crusty inedible

This was the 1st time I ever wrote a letter to a ship's Exec Chef about the awful food in MDR (No Reply either)

Our Cabin creaked LOUDLY when ship was at sea constantly and  a letter to Hotel Director led to being shown adjacent

    cabins that creaked too.

It seems that Princess is a shadow of the "Love Boat" which they re-run 24x7 and all the cost cutting and profit maximizing

have ruined a once nice cruise brand !

PRINCESS IS A 3 STAR CRUISE LINE .....MAKE NO MISTAKE

I am on the Emerald right now. This is my 15th Princess cruise and the worst food I have ever had on a Princess cruise. Before all the "Food Defenders" chime in, the menus have changed and so far not one meal has met my simple standard of just having "taste".

I cannot believe ANYONE is excited or will lust for more of this very mediocre, completely forgettable, flavorless MDR food. The Horizon buffet is a freakin zoo! Never an empty table and the food is even less exciting. Seriously, the OP is right. Princess has attained a new low in food taste and quality. So disappointed!

Yes, eventually - supposedly - they will be fleet-wide. According to Princess themselves - no word on when they may be rolled out though.  They say they're still in "testing phase" - even though these menus have been on Ruby since at least March 2018...

They're not on any other ships - yet. Would be great to see new menus across the fleet, but they're not there yet...

Interesting! And thanks for the update.

Well we could just look up the menu on the Princess site for Slice Pizzeria--and there it is:

So far Caribbean, Crown and Ruby Princess have this new Slice menu. No word if any other ships planned yet.

Well this "California Toast" sure sounds way better than what "I believe" the O.P. was referring too.

  5. Yes, several times! We felt safe in all locations, Mazatlan, Manzanillo, Puerto Vallarta and Cabo. The Grand is just fine as well and have sailed on it 5 times. Have a great trip!

  6. We were in SF for dinner last night (10/1) and she was still there. Rather surprising, actually.

The Emerald was doing an overnight in San Francisco while on a Pacific Coastal cruise. A little rare like you are suggesting. The Explorer of the Seas berthed at Pier 27 and the Volendan at Pier 35 North was also doing overnights.

We will be on the Oct 19th cruise as well, 17 more days... I can hardly wait!!!

Thanks for the beautiful pics!!! Sent from my iPhone using Forums

I wish I was on the October 19th cruise, I'm actually on the December 19th Hawaiian cruise. Have a great time and I would love to hear your thoughts when you get back. Mark

  7. I love photos of Princess ships !!!

I have some photos of ships that I stored on Shutterfly. But, I don't know how to post them on Cruise Critic. Could you give me some simple directions to post my photos on Cruise Critic??

Everyone posts lovely photos, and I can't figure it out. Would greatly appreciate some help. ;p. Sorry to threadjack. But your photos are really cool. -- EBC

I use photobucket, but I assume shutterfly will be the same. On the right you will see different formats you can share. I copy and paste the "IMG string in the body of my post" See pic below. Cruise Critic requires the "IMG"

    Hope this helps!

  8. Beautiful photos!

That poor woman in the parka cracked me up. As they say Mark Twain said [he didn't]: "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco."

Lol I noticed her and others getting blown around. Fortunately it was a very nice day today but rain is possible for the next two days.

  9. Thanks for the great pictures! I noticed on the Marine Traffic app that the Volendam was next to the Grand and the Emerald was entering the bay. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Actually the Volendan was at pier 35 north and the Emerald was going to pier 35 south. The Grand was at pier 27 doing a turn around.

  10. Thanks for these gorgeous photos ! Did you take them from Crissy Field and East Beach on Mason St.?

Was there a tugboat escort ? I didn't see a tug, so maybe they brought a pilot on board before they sailed underneath the bridge. Thanks again, from EBC :D

You are welcome, it was a gorgeous day out. I took these photos from Pier 39 and yes there was a tug on the Portside aft and bow that joined it once it passed us.

  11. I took a drive into the city today and saw that the Emerald Princess was entering the bay. The Grand Princess and Holland America Volendam were already berthed. Here are some pics!.
