  1. Sorry you had so many obstacles to endure. Unfortunately the ships aren’t registered in the US so perhaps the ada criteria doesn’t apply. I agree with other poster that in the future ask a question on cruise critic as to which ships are handicapped compliant

Minimum wage doesn't apply so I would imagine most of the other US laws don't necessarily apply either. Most cruise ships are registered in other countries, however one ship is registered in the US and that is NCL's Pride of America.

  2. When I was offered a position in IT with one of the cruise lines to be on one of the ships, I found the guidelines for crew members to be an interesting mix. Certain grades and above are allowed to eat and mingle with the guests while others must remain below decks at all time in the crew areas when not on duty. The one caveat I was advised was that whenever above decks among the guests, you had to wear your dress jacket and tie. So much for keeping a low profile.

  3. We flew Alligient a couple of times. The first time was okay. The second time, the previous flight had a maintenance problem and our plane was full so no one could book on ours. We left on time, but I guess they ended up having to fly a crew in for the other plane and they left three or four days later after changing an engine.

  4. I believe in Murphy's Law as I have been a victim many times. Things not delivered because they were used to prop a door open. Things not delivered because they were behind a door. Things not delivered because they thought a container was empty when it wasn't. Things that just disappeared from point A to point B. At best, it is an inconvenience and at the worst it is a tragedy.

In spite of everything you do, there is always a possibility that something will go wrong. Someone who was expected isn't available, another situation arises, there are others requesting the special services and taxes the facility beyond their ability to fulfilled their commitments, there is an accident and equipment is damaged or lost.

It may be difficult, but one suggestion is hire someone to assist you in boarding until the ship's personnel can take over. I don't know how you are going from the hotel to the ship, but if you make it worth their while, they may stay and provide additional assistance.

    .

  5. I can tell you are an expert in medical emergencies on cruise ships:rolleyes:

Being a retired paramedic in a family of RN's, I have quite a bit of medical exposure. No, I'm not a doctor, but I worked with them and I am very familiar with what goes on in an ER. Even ER's can and do make mistakes and not only are they trained in ER medicine, but they have a complete lab and specialists they can contact.

The main thing that puts the cruise ship doctor at a disadvantage is they do not have your medical records or know your history. They don't know your meds, frequency, or amounts. That means they may be guessing based on symptoms. Too many symptoms can be attributed to several conditions.

Is the doctor a GP or is he certified in ER medicine?

It doesn't take much of a search to find appendicitis diagnosed as a cold or other cases where a misdiagnosis was made..

  6. I ship stored data by airlines and use the Pelican cases which are almost indestructible. They rotate through and so the are only shipped by air once every other week out and the same back. I have to replace these things about once year or so. A few looked like they were dragged along the tarmac instead of riding inside the luggage trailer. Some have major cracks.

  7. I think it is a staffing issue. They can't keep adding staff just because of the physical limitations of the ship to house and support staff. By charging a fee, which is basically a nuisance fee, they reduce the number of people using room service. If the demand continues to exceed the capability to provide, they will raise the fee again until the staff available matches the demand.

  8. Unfortunately, some of those "stupid people" have a direct affect on your vacation.

Besides some of the reason stated above for cruising to be attractive to people with medical conditions I think is the fact that there are medical facilities just a short elevator ride away. Where else can you vacation and have medical help so close by? However, sometimes it also seems like people expect to have the capabilities of the Mass General at the end of that elevator ride. That is where the stupidity really comes into play.

I don't think that the medical personnel on ships are really the type you want in a medical emergency other than seasickness, headaches, or sunburn. ER medicine is a separate practice and there are a lot of stories out there of misdisagnosis by onboard physicians.

If he looks like Bernie Kopell, run.

  9. There was a drone on our Ovation of the Seas cruise in 2017. I remember watching the guy on our tour flying it in Da Nang Vietnam at the pagoda to the lady Buddha, and at the beach. He was clearly making a video for his excursion. I doubt he asked the Vietnamese government for permission.

    JC

He was either lucky or prepared. You need a permit to fly a drone in Vietnam.

Also, I believe LIPO batteries cannot be in checked luggage on airlines. They are considered dangerous goods.

  10. The dog owner doesn't care about your issue or to people who are allergic to dogs. I was attacked by a dog when I was young so I don't trust dogs, I am also allergic to them. That however is our problem.

This was tongue in cheek showing my distain for people who abuse the concept of comfort animal and my defense for my actions if anyone put a service animal in my face

  11. I am deathly afraid of strange dogs since I got bit as a child. If I see a strange dog I get anxious. If someone puts one at my face, I may strike it or throw it overboard in my panic.

I have two comfort dogs at home trained to keep strange dogs away from me.

I can get a letter from my doctor certifying this anxiety.

    LOL

  12. on NOS now and an entitled buffoon walking around w his dog under his arm encouraging people to pet the dog. Not even one of those Amazon vests or pretending it’s a service dog. Got in an elevator w us and puts dog in my sons face. No thanks. Not sure who smelt worse the dog or the guy. Stay home w your “pets” not everyone thinks it’s cute. RCI really needs to get a backbone about this

It is not a service dog. He may be claiming comfort dog which is a big difference.

  13. Ben & Jerry's ice cream is extra. Soft serve out by the pool is no fee. Bingo, Casino, Photos, "sales" held in the Promenade outside the shops, and the sale of t-shirts out by the pool on the last day, spa, excursions, taxis, shuttles, drinks and restaurants in the ports, snacks in the port, rum cakes, liquor in the General Store (VERY good prices), room service (except Continental breakfast).

Is the last day before port the best time to buy things? I know on my cruises, some cruise lines offered sales and some did not.
