  1. I've tried searching online and the forums but haven't came to a solid answer. Does the bed in the minisuite split into two beds? I'm looking to book a cruise on the Epic with my mom. I'm torn between a balcony and a minisuite; the price is pretty similar. I know the beds in the balcony rooms can be split. I've even watched some videos and haven't found any where there was a split bed in a minisuite.

When I was working with my NCL Cruise Consultant, they said our mini-suite normally had two twins, and he asked if we wanted a queen instead, which I did. I would call in advance and ask them to set it up as two beds for you.

  2. The day we dock in Cozumel, Cruise TT says there will be five ships with a total capacity of over 21,000 people in port. For anyone that has been to Cozumel, does that sound like the port/town will be really crowded? Is it really worth getting off the ship when there are this many people in port at the same time?

  3. And this is from the actual Landshark restaurant. Too much $$ in my opinion. The water was not very clear either, murky. I have officially decided Belize (Harvest Caye and Belize City) are not for me. Not impressed with either location.

Not sure where you live, but those prices are less than comparable food and drinks in our tourist area right here in Savannah! :')

  4. This is great information. We heard you had to pay for beach umbrellas and chairs so this is good to know. Is the pool free to NCL guests or is that extra? Don't mind the additional costs, just planning our options for that port when we go in August. Thanks!

quote=Tralynn;55791327]There is NO tender to get onto Harvest Caye. You just walk down a beautiful pier. There is also a tram if you do not wish to walk. There is a large, nice beach with lots of loungers and umbrellas all for free. There is also a large pool, bars, shops, clean bathrooms, etc. You do have to pay for food and drink. There are also very nice misting stations if you just need to sit and cool off. If you want to take a ferry, you can cross over to actual Belize. If you just want some beach time, Harvest Caye is great. The further you walk down the beach, the fewer people.

The pool is free with the traditional loungers/chairs. The cabanas are one price for your whole party, NOT per person. When reserving online, only choose it for one person in your group.

  5. Just the tip I read in a recent Getaway review about “Do NOT push the snowflake button on the A/C!!!” is worth my time in reading all the trip reports/reviews. :')

Seriously, I read all I can to look for trends, important info, etc. If someone says “my steak was too raw”, that could mean to them that it had a think, pink line down the middle, whereas to me it would mean it is still mooing. Tastes, particularly with food, are too subjective. But, knowing not to push that dreaded snowflake button is technical information that will save my DW and I from sweating to death!

  6. Being in a wheelchair does not allow you to jump in line. But being in a wheel chair should not separate you from your friends and family. By the looks of your photo you are elderly or soon to be. Maybe someday you will need a wheelchair and you will remember this thread. I hope people are not as judgmental towards you as you seem to be when you see someone in a wheel chair and think they are scammers.

I went with my parents to Universal when my Dad was in a chair. My Mom would push him up to the special area for handicap, but my family would wait in the regular line with everyone else. I have absolutely no issue at all with people that are disabled getting pre-board on aircraft, or first seats at theaters, or even front of the line at theme parks. BUT, I do take issue with their entourage of 15 or 20 people getting to go with them. Someone previously mentioned that it would not impact anyone’s customer service at all. BUT, if several hundred people pre-board an NCL cruise ship, what are my chances of getting Vibe tickets? Or, on an aircraft, overhead space?

The OP was only talking about the true scammers. I do a lot of business travel. I have seen people get pre-board for a flight when they ask for persons with disabilities or “those needing extra time in boarding”, but then witnessed the same people sprinting through the terminals at ATL to catch a connection. Those are the people that make my blood boil.

  7. We just returned from the Dawn and having a 'actually disabled spouse' were seated in the special needs area for boarding no wheelchair required just medical O2 etc. . The number of people claiming to be disabled was outrageous. One party in particular was ranting and raving about a lack of a NCL supplied wheelchair for his wife which they did receive eventually. Guess what ? Every time we saw them she was walking just fine through the Atrium Buffet and the Casino. Guess who showed up at disembarkation day looking for a wheelchair again. Some kind of documentation should be required to obtain the 'handicap status'

This issue is rampant at the Florida theme parks as well. It always infuriated me to see a single person get pushed to the front of the line in a wheelchair followed by their 15 or 20 family members. I have also actually witnessed people swap out who is riding in the wheelchair, with the person coming out walking just fine.

Some people will abuse anything to take advantage.

  8. Just booked my first NCL cruise after 8 on RCI. We've booked a Large Balcony cabin on the Getaway. Are there sunloungers as well as chairs provided? Thanks!

We have a mini-suite with large balcony on deck 8 of the Getaway. I looked at our cabin number on Google images and every picture showed two loungers, two chairs, and a small table.

  9. Not so happy to hear about the bite thing. We have booked the Tabyana Beach Party there. Everything I have seen/read so far says it is a beautiful beach, but can get a bit crowded depending on the number of ships in port. Hopefully the bite thing was just a temporary problem (jelly fish?) that will be gone by September.

  10. Kind of related to this topic, does NCL not have an app yet like the airlines where you can just have it all on your phone? That would be so much more convenient. I never print boarding passes when I fly anymore, I just have them on my phone.

  11. We received the 250 minutes internet as one of our perks. We are sailing for 14days - that will not be enough!

I would like the unlimited package instead. Can we upgrade and get some credit for the 250 minutes?

If so, how? The internet packages don't even show up on my "Explore and Plan" page under my reservation.

And does anyone know how much the unlimited package is for 14 days?

    Any advice will be appreciated.

My cruise consultant told me last night that they will be available (60) days before the cruise.

  12. I am inclined to motion sickness and have never had to use my patches on the Getaway (have sailed her about 5 times). The smaller ships are the ones I use my patch medication although my last recent trips on the Sun and Jade weren't bad so only used OTC Dramamine 3 days each of the 7 day trips.

Perfect! Thanks for this info. I had a severe mastoid infection when I was young, so motion sickness can hit me at times. The worst is spinning (like at the theme parks, i.e., Men In Black, etc.), but I know the ship cannot spin that fast! I have already bought the wrist bands hoping those are all I need, as I do not want to miss out on any of my UBP!! :cocktail:

  13. Last ship we were on was the Sea, about the same size as the Sun. Next cruise is on the Getaway, a substantially bigger ship. Is there anyone who has sailed on both the Sun and the Getaway? If so, do you think there is any difference in the motion of the two ships in normal seas? I have read articles that say the newer, bigger ships are more stable, but would like to hear it from someone who has actually experience it.

  14. Very interested in following your posts. My wife and I are just a bit older than you and your DW and we will be in a similar cabin on the starboard side of deck 8 (8726). Sounds great so far!! I really appreciate the tip about coffee and danish on the Waterfront. I too need to eat as soon as I wake and brush.

  15. Will these straws be too long for the plastic drink cups NCL uses?

There are four shorter ones and four really long ones. I tried one of the shorter ones in a plastic solo cup this evening and it was great. Plus, I got to drink an adult drink on a weeknight! ;p

  16. No extra deals for us. Our cabin’s fare increase from when we booked last September was more than the value of the internet and excursion package add-ons.

BUT, they did find my wife’s old Latitude number and were able to merge the accounts. So, the call was worth my time.

  17. Is your sailing one of the sailings for which the promo is offered? (I got excited when I saw this too but quickly realized my sailing wasn't included) EDIT - saw that you will be on the Getaway and it is included in the current promo.

How does the price you paid for the mini-suite compare to the going rate? If you paid less than the current rate, I could understand NCL refusing your request. Perhaps the price of the cruise has been jacked up to offset the "freebies"?

If you decide to call, please let us know how it works out for you!

The current fare shown for the same class is $50 PP more than my reservation.

  18. Our cruise in September in a mini-suite has been booked for many, many months and was fully paid off several weeks ago, including excursions, fees, etc. As part of our reservation, we were offered two "deals" for free and chose the UBP and Specialty Dining. I just noticed last night that the NCL.com site is now advertising all five deals for free for balcony and above. Do you think it would be worth my time to call NCL and ask for a shipboard credit for the other three free items I was not originally offered? Or would that just be exercise for my lungs?
