Do the Signature Suites on the Oosterdam have coffee/espresso machines yet? We're looking at a March 2016 sailing?
-
Thanks for the info. I'm not the most serene of drivers and chugging uphill with a line of cars behind would have made me a tad verkelmpt. On our visit to Honfleur on the ship, we chose to take the ship's tour. It was long, but well worth the cost. Our tour guide was great.

My husband always calls Livorno a "sea day". Having gotten off last time and wandering around...I think a "sea day" or "laundry day" sums it up for me.
Have already been to the nearby places.

OP, when are you thinking about traveling?
After April's drydock when O starts her Europe season she will have some of the newest amenities in the entire fleet. Some items added from Koningsdam (launches a week or so before O's drydock ends), the suite upgrades and many more things.
I love the Vista class and would pick O in a heartbeat, but that would be even more so the case if you are planning after this drydock
We are looking at the Transatlantic at the end of March, arriving in Civitavecchia on April 3. I suppose this is Before dry dock?

The Doubletree isn't that close to Centraal. Look at this map:
You have to walk, according to Google maps, about 9 minutes to catch the streetcar/bus.
The Amsterdam Hilton has a streetcar stop less than a block away that will take you directly to Centraal, and from there you can take the train to other places in Holland or another street car. Since you have Hhonors points, they have a club floor, and that could save you a few Euros since you could have breakfast up there, as well as snacks in the evening.

Our cruise line two years ago had a shuttle from the dock to the information office in Belfast. We took that shuttle and got some UK pounds from the ATM machine next door, then took a taxi from there to the Titanic quarter. I believe it was 7 or 8 pounds from there.

Love all the detailed photos. Gives me a great taste of the ships that I haven't been on yet. Thanks, Colleen.

We booked tickets, headsets and tower online and were glad to have the headsets. If I had to do it all over again, I would have skipped listening to the descriptions of the outside of the church and concentrated on the inside. The outside is beautiful, but the inside impressed me more.
The entrance line to pick up your tickets is on Carrer de Sardenya, sort of the back of the church.

What an exciting report...felt like I was transported there. Thank you for sharing your lovely experiences with us.

I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere...we haven't sailed Princess before but love specialty coffees. How much does the coffee card cost? Thank you.

Maybe you'd like to visit Herculaneum after Pompeii? It's in Naples.
I'd second the Archeological Museum. We tried to go there once, but they were closed due to a one day strike.

Thank you, ColoradoBelle. Don't know you, but I trust your information more than that of the media.

We always try to eat at Zingari when we're in San Francisco. From the Warwick, it's just up Mason Street for a block and then left not even half way down the block. Great Italian food.

I don't know what brought me over to this board, but I'm glad I found your report (and the other ones, as well). Stef, you are amazing and I'll bet if you planned a group cruise, we'd all join you. Love your writing style, too. You sound like a dear friend. Ausgezeichnet!

Good article...wish I had read it before I went to Italy the first time. I was standing at the bar waiting to order a cappuccino and kept getting ignored. Finally, the barista motioned that I should go over to the cassa first and bring back a receipt. Haven't forgotten that one.
I was watching Anthony Bourdain in Rome the other day and the local guide told him you NEVER order a cappuccino after 10 a.m. Who knew?

Oh, Lordy, I do apologize to everyone. The OP asked about Windsor Castle and I was writing about Dover Castle. Big difference.

Amazing video...when you see those little people and those giant gates, you appreciate the sheer size and work that it takes. Thanks for posting the link.

We were ending a cruise in Dover last year, and staying aboard for the next cruise. We decided to see Dover castle on a Sunday and took a taxi from the pier, however, getting back to the ship presented a problem in that there were no taxis at the two taxi stands we went to. Finally went to the ticket office and they called a taxi company who told the ticket office that they were booked up for the next two hours. Finally, the kind woman at the ticket office told us to wait for the bus that takes visitors around the Castle grounds and ask if the bus could take us to the pier. The driver was just getting off, so agreed to take us for free. Of course, we tipped him well.
So if it's a nice summer day and a Sunday (or even, possibly, Saturday) make sure you book a taxi in advance to return to where you're going.

The Blue and Gold fleet also has boats going to Sausalito. If you end up docking at Pier 35 or 27, that would be your closest option...rather than going all the way to the Ferry Building.
I used to live in San Francisco and people there get upset if you call it anything other than San Francisco, or "The City".
If you look on Google Maps and type in San Francisco Piers, you will better see where things are located.

Are you on the Sept. 3 MSC Splendida cruise out of Hamburg?
To answer some of your questions:
Queensferry is a tender port. Here is a link to describe Queensferry:
http://www.whatsinport.com/Queensferry-Edinburgh-Scotland.htm
We ended our cruise in Hamburg last year and did Miniatur Wunderland first. It was interesting, but there were soooo many people and with all the body heat, I just got too hot, so we left after about 1-1/2 hours.
We also did the hop-on hop-off bus and found that interesting to see all that Hamburg has to offer.
There are several free walking tours...just google "walking tours Hamburg" and you'll find a number of them. Also check Tripadvisor.com forums and reviews of guides.

Looking on Google images, it appears that although there are stairs, their are also escalators and elevators.
You can also request assistance. See this link from trenitalia's website:

I was just thinking of posting this question, as well. I'm not sure if our ship will have Columbian Pesos to sell us, and we'd rather not buy a bunch just for a taxi. Plus I've read somewhere that the taxis at the port would rather take you on a half day tour, than a point to point ride since they'd earn more the first way.

We spent a couple more hours at La Sagrada Familia than we thought we would. The audio tour was great...pointed out things we wouldn't have noticed because there is so much to see. If you take a taxi, make sure it drops you off on Carrer de Sardenya, which is where the ticket offices are. There is a line for people who want to buy tickets, and a separate line for those who already have tickets. After you get through the ticket line, you go to the right and pick up your audio devices.
We also did one of the towers which was great, you go up in an elevator and walk down. But our legs were sore for two days after that walk down.

nkgur, love your blog. You even have our ship listed from last year,
http://guernseyliners.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
when we arrived having not been able to put into St. Helier.
Since this was our third time to Guernsey, we made reservations at the Victor Hugo House which we knew would be quite a walk, but we missed the street we should have gone up, and consequently were late for our tour and the next available one wasn't for two hours. I chose to wait, but hubby left to find a bar for a cool beer. Had I been able to find a taxi, I would rather have done that, but they are hard to find.
Trujillo/Salaverry Peru Port information
in South America
Posted
It is a tad difficult to find info for some ports of call. I found something on Salaverry/Trujillo on youtube. If you do a search for Jamie Logan and Trujillo/Salaverry, you will find cruise director Jamie's tour of Trujillo and some ruins. I believe he also has quite a few other videos of shore excursions.
