  1. While I love Carnival and know them to be extremely forthcoming and honest. The return of Players Bank funds is SOP. It even states in the fun times that should you not cash out and/or you have refundable OBC's that you don't collect, you will receive a check in the mail in a few weeks.

If the amount in either account is $5 or less, the money is donated to St. Judes.

  2. More cabins/tables means more tips. I've never been asked about morning or evening service, I've always received both.

I'm also in the camp that tips should not be able to be removed. Though I don't want them included in my cruise fare (though the end result is the same), I like the flexibility of either prepaying them, or depending on the overall anticipated travel expense, just waiting until I'm on the ship to have them added.

I just can't imagine ever reducing them or removing them.

  3. I don't agree. I cruise several times a year and I've never had a problem with the variety, quality or temperature of the food in the MDR. I also feel that the addition of the Port of Call menu, and the everyday favorites items plus 4 or 5 entrée selections makes plenty of variety. I often have trouble deciding and since I think the portion size is reasonable, I don't order more than one entrée.

  4. Thanks, you guys!! We used a TA this past cruise. I'm thinking it might be wise to go through Carnival for this one. Online booking still ok for this kind of offer?

I think you should call Carnival. As others have said there is limited availability and it might be difficult to know the correct ships and/or dates these are available.

We've been on one "free" cruise. We booked a 7 day in an interior (which is actually our preferred cabin), and the total cost for the 2 of us was $167.11 (not including the gratuity).

  5. Is there such a thing? I see the 1/2 price deposits right now and would like to grab a cruise but it's early saver so if I have to cancel I'll lose it. Is there insurance for this?

You can get an insurance policy that covers cancel for any reason situations. It usually costs a little more, but if you are really not sure, it's worth it.

Compare policies at insuremytrip dot com

  6. I'm going to cheat here a little and say my two things are meds and a fully "stocked" carry on bag.

I usually board the ship in jeans, regardless of the weather. But my carry on has at least two complete changes of clothes (slacks outfit and capri outfit) and a light jacket.

All of my clothes are color coordinated, so with just my boarding outfit and the two in my carry on. I can put together 9 different outfits, even if my luggage is completely lost.

  7. You guys are having a much better experience than I am.

I sail 3-4 times a year, I'm Diamond and the 1st problem I have with drinks in the casino is the amount of time it takes to get served. I always cash tip with each drink, but at least until after 11pm it can take 20 minutes or more to get a drink. I'm not going to spend 20 minutes at a machine waiting on a "free" $8.95 drink.

But, as of 2 years ago on every ship I've been on, I've been told that all drinks ordered under the DOU promotion count against your Cheers 15 drink limit. The receipt use to come up Players Club, but now it doesn't it just showed Cheers. I even questioned it and they told me that if you have Cheers they have to ring it up under that promotion.

I don't chase points anymore, for any reason. Though I gamble enough just within my regular pattern to get more than 5000 points, it's just my form of entertainment. It's nice when I get a free cruise (2x) or a Bounce Back offer (which doesn't generally happen if you already have a future cruise booked). And I'll be leaving on a Premier Casino cruise on 9/2 and those are a nice perk.

  8. I use cash. I tried downloading from my S&S account but it seemed like it was double charging me. I would download $100 to my Players bank which should last for at least a few hours based on the same level of play when I'm using cash........But when I look at my account later in the evening or the next day it had posted a $100 transaction at 7pm and another transaction at 7:05pm.

At the time I didn't dispute it, but I'll just go back to taking my set amount of cash to the casino with me.

  9. We are cruising on the Sunshine for the first time at the end of April. I've been looking at the pictures of the Liquid Lounge. Is this their main showroom? It doesn't look as grand as ones we've seen on our other cruises. It looks a little sad almost like they forgot to put one on the ship so they just gathered a bunch of chairs and sat them on the floor! Is this correct?? Calm my fears! Thanks.

You hit the nail on the head.......they have ruined the atmosphere of both the Lobby and the main theater.

Deck 3 forward is no longer the theater, they put more cabins there. So now the Lobby is just dead in the evening.

Deck 4 inside the "theater" is a flat floor with a bar at the back, chairs stacked side by side with no tables to set a drink on. Not even the bar waiters can come down the isle to take your order or serve you a drink. You have to pass your S&S card down the isle to him then he will return with your drink and receipt to sign and pass it back down the isle through multiple strangers hands. I wouldn't even consider letting someone else handle my drink.

There are production shows in there, but late in the evening all the chairs are removed and it becomes a dance floor.

It's the worst design they could have dreamed up and they are duplicating it on the Vista and Horizon, despite all of the complaints.

  10. Your cabin should be ready unless there is something holding them up.

You said you are "turning" Platinum on your next cruise. Be sure your luggage tags have Priority and the orange FTTF emblem. Also your cruise documents should list Platinum beside your name and past guest number.

Sometimes the system doesn't recognize the change in status. If you have that problem call Carnival now and/or write to cclsupport @ carnival . com

  11. I've stayed in PT cabins on deck 2 several times. It's just me and my sister so there is one twin and the sofa bed which is very comfortable.

Tons of floor space, we love them.

I choose deck 2 because the glass elevators stop on that deck but they don't go down to 1, so more transport choices.

I'm getting ready to book one today on the Magic.

Last day of the $50 deposit sale.

  12. I eat in the MDR every time it's open, I don't like buffets.

The menu has both regular breakfast selections and savory lunch items like pasta, soups, salads. Any item can be ordered at anytime.

In the morning the bread basket is full of sweet pastries and breads. Around noon it switches over to savory popovers. But you can request either at any time.

    I actually go twice.

I go when they first open (around 8:30) for a traditional breakfast of a combination omelette, with sausage and hashbrowns, juice etc.

I go back, just before they close (around 1:45) for lunch type food. I often order the steak and w/o the egg with a side of hollandaise sauce and a Caesar Salad.

  13. The only thing I would add to this discussion is. For everyone traveling adult or child.

Keep all of your cruise documents until about a week after you get home.

I recommend this so that you can go into everyone's account via their VIFP number and password (which you will have to set up for each person) on cruise manager to check and make sure your cruise history has been updated, and you've been given credit for the cruise days you just completed.

Sometimes the system doesn't post a completed cruise and it's much easier to get it added sooner when you have all the documentation available, than to go back a year later or more and try to prove you were on a certain cruise.

Once my cruise is posted on my history I print out a copy so I have it for future reference because sometimes the cruise histories disappear.

  14. I think they have cut back some because of offering so many BB offers. The trick to getting those offers is high points on the slots and no future cruise planned.

I usually have a lot of cruises booked but this year I didn't so I did actually get a Premier Cruise offer. I actually had to choice of several and didn't even realize it because I don't check my offers very often, but my PVP called and told me about it so I'm on the Freedom, 9/2 in an interior for $1200 for the 2 of us and that includes prepaid gratuities. Plus we get a total of $500 casino cash.

I got a letter last week with another list of Premier cruises but I couldn't take advantage.

Be sure and check your offers online frequently. They will post them there but don't send as many snail mails out anymore.

  15. The unfortunate part of the Alchemy Bar on the Breeze will have to be the same as on the Magic. There is no room there to have the second row of chairs and the semi-circular table. There is only the bar. When that fills up (rather quickly), you have to sit in the Ocean Plaza area and the experience is not as intimate as on the Conquest class ships.

I agree it won't be the same and with all the activity in the Red Frog and on the stage on Ocean Plaza it's going to be just a bar (that wasn't getting much action) serving fancy martini's.
